Tennis 2021

Just ran into Sabalenka in the street. She's like 3 chromosomes away from being beautiful - impressive physique though.

There aren't any dominant players currently like Serena, Novak, Federer or Nadal in their prime however I think the strength in depth is there with a lot of very talented youngsters at the moment. Picking a winner before the tournament is extremely difficult moreso because of the depth than lack of quality in my opinion.

In R3 alone there was Muguruza vs Azarenka, Kerber vs Stephens and Sakkari vs Kvitova. That's ignoring other good but not as big match up.

Yeah, I agree with that. If you look at the quarterfinalists (apart from the two teenagers) most have won Slams or been in the finals. And that's excluding Osaka and Barty who bounced out early.

I am desperate for Emma to win. She is from the borough next to mine. would be nice for Bromley to be known for more than just The Glades, sl**s and Vuvu
How dare you speak about Bromley like that? Admittedly the first time I went to Vuvu a girl vomited on my shoes after about 2 minutes. As someone who moved here from another country (Ireland) as a child, albeit a few years older, and having gone to the boy's equivalent of her secondary school plenty of years ahead of her it's really cool to see what she's doing.

The weird thing was for once the women's draw didn't largely fall apart in the first couple of rounds, most of the big names got through those which meant there were a lot of clashes between big names from round three onwards and yet it's ended up with the most surprising final match up I can ever remember.

There’s something about the beauty of that region; it’s often a little flawed. Lovely all the same though.

You’re right about her bod. She’s damn stunning in a swimsuit

Great adjustment by FAA coming to the net more. Can't just rally spam with Medvedev. He's got a great touch at the net and quick hands too.

FAA should have won the set but pretty impressive from Medvedev to break back at 3-5. After he failed to serve it out FAA just looked deflated and made it pretty easy for Medvedev in the following games.

Also goes to show important a mental skill it is to get over your disappointments quickly. His reaction to the disappointment of being broken while serving for the set was the bigger downfall rather than failing to serve out the set.

I don’t know if it was nerves from Felix or Daniil stepping up his game at the key moment but the end of that second set was disappointingly one-sided considering the games played in the set previously. Unbelievable sudden collapse.

Isn't women's tennis in a right state when both finalists are qualifiers? Didn't the other finalist beat the woman who was No. 1 in the World, until recently?

Now that the woman mountain Williams has retired, it's open house to whoever.

At least the men's game has clear top players.

What a shite sport. I'm glad I gave up on it when all the grunting started.

The match was effectively over once FAA got broken in that second set, both serve and mentally.

Don’t think Medvedev will be favourite for the final, whosoever he faces though.
Losing record against both though he has won 3 in a row vs Zverev. His last match against Novak was the Aussie open final.

Thank you for your thoughts

So that was about 12/13 years ago, why comment?

You're welcome.

Fair play to Emma, she's still had to beat everyone to get this far, but don't you guys think that there has to be something wrong with the sport when 2 qualifiers make it to the final?

Tennis is rubbish.
While relatively unknown to most Fernandez is not a qualifier. Given they are both extremely young players with high potential I don't think it's any cause for concern. Two obscure 27 year olds making a final probably would be.

I’ll give you something though. You’re right, in that it’s heading towards a sport with no real stars as such. Once the big 3 finally hang up the racket I’m not seeing anyone I can warm to or showing the personality to generate the same level of awe.

This will actually made Tennis more interesting imo. I remember what it was like before the big three showed up and not knowing who would win the tournaments was actually a good thing.

I agree but the quality has to be there too, particularly with the men. At the moment we're going into majors with 2 maybe 3 serious contenders and a couple of outside hopefuls at best.

I think the strength in depth is there with the WTA but lacking with the ATP.

Out of the big 3 only Djoko has been firing on all cylinders - Federer has retired for all intents and purposes and Nadal is missing so many tournois through injury.

Once the big three retire Zverev, Medvedev, Tsitsipas, Thiem can take the mantle not to mention the young guns like Berretini, Shapovalov, Sinner, Alcaraz

I’ll focus on Emma, because I’ve seen far more of her. She’s not playing anywhere close to the level of a qualifier. I’m assuming there’s a good chance her ranking would be much higher right now if it wasn’t for the pandemic.

To me, a casual player, who’s watched tennis for two decades, the level of tennis she playing right now is high. Simple as that. People have really been spoilt by the big three in the men’s game and Serena. The test will be to see whether she can continue playing so aggressive, and obviously stay fit.

Why is everyone calling her my her first name? Raducanu isn't hard to spell and we don't usually go around talking about first names in sport.

Everything ok at home pal?

She's definitely won as much and on the level as everyone mentioned so far. I'm convinced.

No problem with it, if that's what we're going to relate Emma with going forward.
