Tennis 2021

Fs, that set was too quick.

It’s incredible what fitness levels have big guys have built up (esp. Novak) over the years so that much younger players are unable to go distance with them.

What the hell happened in that Djokovic match? Did Musetti step on a landmine while getting a towel after set 2?!

Weird first set with Nadal-Sinner. Don't think either has played particularly well. Sinner, serving for the set at 5-4 threw the set away with numerous errors.

So Musetti retires with two games to go because he didn't feel he would win another game after cramping.
Not sure what's going on with these types of things lately, along with Fed treating RG like a warm up event.

Nadal solid but still seems below where he should be. Needs to raise that massively for Schwarzmann and the semis. Errors abound and that second serve is concerning.

Would still hedge my bets on a Nadal and Swiatek win, tbh.
Will wait to see Djokovic vs Berrettini to see where he's at.

Not sure a five set match has ever been lost so quickly from 2 sets to 0 up. Wonder what Berrettini will be making of all of this, he must have wanted Musetti to keep Novak out on court a bit longer and put some miles into his legs.

That match is now up in the air but can see a Djoko win with the way he was able to coast through at the end. Walkovers can disrupt rhythm.

Medvedev with a shocking under arm serve, match point down! Didn't play the big points well enough today. Didn't have the feel of a straight sets loss.

Tsitsipas vs Zverev should be a fun semi final and hopefully Nadal vs Djokovic as well if they both make it.

He's too good

Very tough match, Swartzman is very good, and they know each other a lot. They have trained several times in Mallorca.
The other day he did an analysis at a press conference on how playing with the sun could favor Rafa with the ball.

is Schwartzman the new David Ferrer? trully tough to play against on clay.

It's an apt comparison because they are similar players, but it's a bit harsh on Ferrer. To be honest, his defensive game was seriously world class.

With 27 career titles he should have managed to sneak in a slam. Soderling is another one who had a great game on clay but never won a slam.

27 career titles is amazing feat tbh.

Djokovic in tie breaks all of a sudden isn't so great. Two really poor errors on serve when 5-4 up.

Some out of this world serving by Berrettini from the beginning of 3rd set, no wonder Djokovic is relieved.

Berrettini's forehand was immense. His backhand on the other hand...worse than mine.

The womens game is nuts.... seems theres a new final 4 like every tourney. So, I had to look it up....going back to Wimby 19, out of 28 Semi-Final slots, there has been 20 different women compared to 13 men..... Serena is 4 of those 28 too. Absolutely wild. Hopefully the WTA does what it has too to protect Osaka, because the post-Serena era looks like it's gonna be on her back for the time being.

I caught the end of the Krejcikova-Sakkari match. At matchpoint for K, Sakkari hits a ball over, Kreejcikova starts celebrating, the ref calls it in. Hawkeye shows it's out. What a farce.

Glad it didn't matter in the end

Out by quite a bit too. If she lost would have been a huge controversy. Glad all that was avoided though. Some great shots by both women.

Hope Djokovic can provide Nadal a challenge this evening. Don't really care who wins in the end. Hope one of the new guard wins the tournament. It's time for change.

I'll probably be missing most of the matches today and the two finals but I'll record and watch them back next week. I'm so fecking nervous for Nadal, even though I have him as the favorite today and the match is a good few hours away.

A huge amount on the line, Zverev and Tsitsipas can win their first slam. Nadal is seeking to pass Federer's slam record. Novak is seeking the double career slam, calendar slam and he would also be just one major behind Federer and Nadal, going into Wimbledon in a couple of weeks.

I always try to really support a tennis player, but I never get above having a slight preference for 1.

I always like the dickheads like Safin or Soderling. So Medvedev is obviously my new favorite.

I think you can relax, Nadal will win this easily. Has looked good so far and no one of the others has been so outstanding that he should be worried.

Nadal to win. This is one surface where he has the edge over Djokovic

After Nadal calls it a day, I hope I'm more of a neutral to avoid stress, though I do really like Tsitsipas from the young players.

Zverev is probably the only one I don't like.

I wish some Dutch dude decides to become a decent player. The last sort of semblance of a tennis player was maybe Robin Haase, but he's insufferable.

Thought Zverev might give Tsistipas a bit more trouble but given his record against top 10 players in majors it's hardly a surprise. He's also had the easiest run out of the current players to the SFs, not playing anyone in the top 40.

You should have trusted your initial instincts, this match is suddenly a lot more open than it looked like being when Tsitsipas took the second set (albeit I also still expect Tsitsipas to win).
