Tennis 2019

Another amazing match between these tw

Grass can produce borefests but it also produces the best rallies in tennis.

These guys are fecking incredible

Edit: FFS just realised the missus had paused it earlier and we're 5 mins behind.

Novak won the final, guess your wife paused your TV for few days Radon.

What fecking match.

To be able to play at that level at that age (speaking of Fed mostly). Such a privilege to be watching these 2 go at it year after year.

That is the best Federer has played in a long long time , barely mishit anything all match . Rafa actually played alright but didn't expect that level from Federer

Nadal should be gutted. Blew so many opportunities
They were both nervous at times.... when you;re older and you don't have much time, everything becomes so much more precious and of course you get tense. No matter they are great champions.

So expecting Federer to win pre match was not jinxing then eh? Going into the match, form doesn't really matter over here. Federer is the far superior player on grass and he emphatically proved that today. A different level to Nadal.

So far this match in terms of momentum has been like AO 2017. Each one has a spell of dominance, rarely do they have it together (only time it happened in 17 was the 5th set). In terms of level it is lower - firstly because Fed's backhand is almost non-existent.

Please don't be a jinx please don't be a jinx

I was scared I'd jinx the outcome of the 5th set today instead it seems i reverse-jinxed his backhand. really came to life in the last set.

A really good match but it only livened up in the end I thought.

I think the 2 games in the 3rd set, where Roger broke, and then somehow held on to consoidated, were the highest level for both. And then when he served for the match at 5-4 and Nadal stepped it up but he just about fended him off.

Kudos to both these athletes. Cannot imagine tennis without these two and even Djock. But the rivalry between Nadal and Federer is one of the best rivalry in any sports. Brilliant. With each passing year I doubt if we will see these two against each other and then they keep on doing what they do the best. Hats off.

Is Federer the greatest sportsman of all time in any sport?

Fed saw Sir Alex and went attack, attack, attack:D

Will enjoy until Sunday:D

I'm so glad Novak beat RBA. Need him sharp and focused and hopefully not affected by the crowd.

For me personally, but that's a subjective view, plus tennis is my favourite sport so i'm biased.
However, you can make the case for a quite a few sports people though. It's difficult to say.

Strictly confined to sporting achievement, yes. This is like a heavyweight boxer winning fights at 50.

Pretty crazy to think there were mutterings about him retiring as early as 2012 and here we are.

Rafa has a few years left. Every year now I think Fed will retire so I enjoy his matches - wins and losses alike.

From what I remember of them, the best Fedal GS matches, trying to think of both quality and importance:

1. Wimbledon 2008
2. AO 2009
3. AO 2017
4. Wimbledon 2007
5. French 2007
6. French 2011
7. Wimbledon 2019
8. Wimbledon 2006
9. French 2008
10. French 2006
...
last. French 2019 (semi-final, straight sets, crazy wind disputing the match)

I'm missing a few strolls for Nadal in the AO (2013, ?) in this list.

That was a hell of a nervy finish but Federer was brilliant today. Serve, return and groundstrokes were immense. Magnificent peformance. I do wonder if he has enough in the tank for Novak. He seemed to be gassed at the end. I really didn't expect him to boss things the way he did, although Nadal is such a fighter the way he kept at it till the end.

Have any of the 3 beaten the other two to win the a GS? For instance, if Fed wins it, he would have beaten Nadal and Djoko in the same tournament. Has that been done among the trio?

If only Djokovic could have messed up as he did at the French!

Still woohoo!

Nadal has done it the maximum times. Federer the least.

If Djokovic wins the final, given he's 5 years younger he'll be on very good pace to surpass Federer's greatest records... and that's in the same sport.

I know Djoko has a few times, and Nadal at the French.

I'm feeling good about Roger. Like I felt after the 2015 Wimbledon semi vs Murray...
If he plays that well he'll either lose in 5 or win. The depth on some of his returns and groundstrokes was wonderful.

Tennis isn't purely results based. Djoko (unfortunately for him) simply isn't loved to the extent the other two are.

The 2008 Wimbledon final is one of the best sporting events I've ever been lucky enough to watch. It was absolutely stunning.
