Tough match for Federer. He was on the ropes a bit in the third set. Hope he comes through. Good news is that he's getting a lot of break points. Needs to convert more of course. This would have been a very simple win had he been able to do that.

Not at all surprised with Federer winning here. Stan got lucky to get past Tsitsipas and if he had trouble reading Dimi and Tsitsipas's serves, he was going to be a non entity on return vs Federer as well.

I’m tempted to say Fed will win a set but the reality is Nadal will most likely rout him in 3.

I don’t think Federer can really hurt Nadal. He’ll neutralise Federer’s heavy ground strokes and pass him when he starts to push and comes to net.
Fed had 46 approaches to the net in the final 2 sets. He realized he's not going to win any rally and just stuck to charging to the net.

If Feds serve is firing he can definitely trouble Rafa. Rafa isn't playing at the level of last year. He's been broken multiple times this tournament so if Federer serves well, he's going to get a lot of chances to break.

This is clay not grass or hardcourts. It’s the hardest surface to keep your serve. Most of the breaks against Nadal have come when he’s been in complete control besides Goffin.
Federer has always had the better serve that’s not really surprising. Nadal is serving better than he was 10 years ago.

No one is beating Nadal, especially on clay, without a forehand, and 2019’s Fed forehand is nonexistent. If he couldn’t even keep pace with Wawrinka whenever it went past 10 shots in a rally then what chance against Nadal?
