If Nadal wins tonight he's equalling that federer record next year. At the very least. It's weird because only in the last couple of years did we contemplate that happening since both Nadal and Djokovic were injury prone, uninspired, burnt out (very acceptable theory in their cases seeing how much power and effort their style takes and how young they already burst onto the scene) and looked going into the typical downward spiral that 99% of top players go through not long after 30. At that same time Federer found his second spring and added even more slams to his record.... yet here we are...

Unfortunately that's true. Once the three all time greats retire, it will be so boring to watch men's tennis too. The biggest impact would be that of Federer because his style is so unique that I don't see another player of his style and grace soon. Nadal and Djokovic are players who at least have stylistic resemblance available in the next gen.The unpredictability is all that it's got going for it. I think this result made it 8 different winners of Slams back to back? I find the quality pretty poor though and that's what the ATP will be in 2-3 years.
I disagree with this to be honest, I think there are a number of very good players and plenty promising youngsters. The unpredictability is all that it's got going for it. Overweight. Cool.
I agree that it's more entertaining but as for the quality? I think the fact that, 7 years after retirement, Kim still has the 3rd highest number of Slams this decade, speaks a lot about the quality of the tour in general. The Top 2 seeds here got demolished in straight sets. I think it's a tour that is extremely unpredictable but also rather low in quality.I disagree with this to be honest, I think there are a number of very good players and plenty promising youngsters.
After the big 3 retire I think the WTA could well be the more popular tour for a period of time.
Once they retire, it'll be very similar to what the WTA is like. Very little top level quality but a lot of competition because everyone is at an equally poor level. You can see an era where the likes of RBA, Tsitsipas, Diego, Medvedev and Zverev are all swapping titles because everyone is just so damn average.Unfortunately that's true. Nadal is great at the AO just till the final stretch. Whether its Federer or Djokovic or injury, something will always find a way to end his runs there. To be fair Nadal found his second spring in 2017 too. I didn’t think he’d win any slams after watching him in 2015. Thankfully he realised what I was saying for so long that he needed a new coach and the addition of Moyà has proved very vital for him. Not that I’m saying Toni Nadal was a bad coach. He did a great job, but Nadal needed a fresh voice and change his style up late on in his career. But Nadal now serves like how Moya used to and he’s been very vital.
If Djokovic is still struggling with injury by Aussie open time then you gotta fancy Nadal. He’s been the second best hard court player after Djokovic in the last 18 months.

Yet another match where Nadal's fh is completely missing and broken already.
He's really not played one good match all week.
Nadal just needs to find his timing. I don’t think Medvedev is causing him problems.
Medvedev hits with a surprising lack of pace for a guy his size.
