Tennis 2016

If Federer doesn't win, and he probably won't, I hope Raonic wins the slam. We need a new and younger GS winner.
I want Murray to win it! If not then would br good to see Raonic win it.

Anyone have an idea which semi will be played first? Hoping it's Fed - Novak

I think so. Evening session tomorrow, I think.

Federer - Djokovic is tomorrow, 08:30 UK time. Murray - Raonic is on Friday.

I'm also for Murray but wouldn't mind Raonic winning it, if not. He's got a chance on Friday if he's as solid and confident as today but I wouldn't back him against Novak. Federer is beatable but unlikely to play in the final.

Keep thinking it's like Wimbledon and RG where the two mens semi finals are scheduled for the same day. Will miss both as I'll be at work which is a shame, was hoping to wake up a little earlier and catch some before I leave.

Federer has a chance to beat Djokovic, Fed is playing at his top level and Djoko not so. However he will have to do it relatively quick, Djoko wins if it goes to 5.
Murray is playing well enough to beat anyone but would probably need Djoko to be at 90% or less because he's so good.

It doesn't really matter what level they're at, Djok just doesn't lose to Fed in slams, at least for a number of years now, believe last win for Fed was way back in 2012. Wimbledon last year Fed was in great form but just got steamrolled.

It was nothing of the sort, how could it be in a 4 setter where one player won only 10 fewer points than the other?

It was, however, the typical story of Federer against Djokovic in big matches recently - Federer unable to reach the top level on the important points consistently enough. The US Open final completely epitomised that, with Federer converting 3 of 23 break points or something absurd like that.

Hopefully, as it's a semi final, the pressure will be off a little and Federer will be able to break the spell one last time.

Djok cruising to another slam. Absolute machine. He will beat Fed, of course. Who's done brilliantly to reach another slam semi. Seriously when are the so called next generation going to come through? Dimitrov, Raonic, Goffin, Dolpologov, Paire, Janowicz (wtf happened to him?! Looked a slam winner) They're still getting creamed by 35 yr old Fed.

Of that group only Raonic looks capable of winning a slam any time soon, if ever.

On form you'd expect Fed to possibly get by Djokovic. Expecting him to revert to his usual self when he plays him though (not converting break points, missing overheads, framing forehands/backhands etc). Seen it too many times before to get my hopes up.

Think Raonic has a good shot against Murray. He's playing the better tennis and he'll definitely get chances to break Murray's serve. Not sure his mentality would hold up in the final against Djokovic though, plus he'd have a day less rest.

Can't wait for today's match even though won't be able to watch it!

Wasn't Djokovic superb against Nishikori? He's in the kind of phase in his career where he needs Nadal or Federer at their best to face, or someone like Wawrinka (power player) right on top of his game blowing him off the court.

He has to be the comfortable favorite IMO.

He scraped by against Nishikori with both making a ton of errors.

That being said, Djoker is still in another plane mentally and physically compare to anyone else in the current game. As much as I love Fed, I just can't see him beating Nole in Slams anymore.

Djokovic breaks in first Federer service game - is it too early to say this is won already?!?!

Don't think so. Federer just hasn't got the necessary pressure on his forehand anymore to contain Djokovic at all. No urgency, no length, no speed to his shots.

Federer already looks beaten. He's playing in a sulky manner today.

As well as Djokovic has started, Federer has been terrible so far.

The commentators on Eurosport still getting caught in this weird narrative that Federer is playing some of his best tennis at age 34... he is still one of the best in the world, maybe the best when everything is clicking over 3 sets, but compared to 2005-2007 he's just a shadow of his former self.

Yeah, this is just sad... I regret getting up early to watch this already.

To be fair, I don't expect another GS from Federer, and I haven't now for a long time despite him making a lot of finals/semi-finals.

What I do normally expect is at least a proper contest no matter who he plays. So far he hasn't even turned up today.

Federer's biggest problem is the amount of unforced errors he makes, especially against the like of Djokovic. Almost seems like he does not believe he can beat Novak anymore.

Yes. Plus this notion that Federer has the best service game is equally laughable. Novak has a better service game and a better return game then Roger at this stage of their careers. It is kind of sad to see this legend now.

This problems stems from the fact that he just can't hit the ball the way he used to anymore in general. I remember the times when hitting a ball towards Federer's forehand, no matter how well places, would result in a Federer point 95% of the time. Nowadays, he can't generate pressure from slow, long balls anymore and hits the net more often than not when trying to hit a running forehand cross court for the counter. It's just not there anymore.

Yeah, this is done and dusted. Federer can't hit a good forehand to save his life and Djokovic is like a machine.

Yes, he is no longer the Roger of even 5 years back, let alone when he was dominating everyone. Just now, that backhand into the net from close was a horrible mistake which he would not make in his prime. Plus he does not seem to effect Novak's game one bit. Novak does not have to improvise to face Roger anymore. In fact Roger's games suits Novak's down to a tee.

Djokovic comes up with the ridiculous passing shots as he always does, but apart from that all he has to do is keep the ball in play with decent length. That's it. Just wait for Federer to make a mistake, get nailed to his backhand or attack the net pointlessly like just now for easy pickings.

Federer is just not mixing it up. His returns are at the perfect pace where Djokovic does not have to even generate the pace. He just needs to direct it. And Roger's shots don't have the depth which is there in Novak's shots.

Yes, because Federer does not have the power to hurt Djokovic from the base line. This will be over in 75 mins or so.

Good night everybody, this is gruesome to watch. I'm outie...

Worse than I thought. Honestly djok-fed is one of the worst match ups in slams, just so one sided.

Basically Federer's excellent tournament to date has been, as is becoming a trend, a bit of a tease to all the neutrals who are building up optimism and thinking maybe he can take on Djokovic who's not playing at 100%. Djoko looks like he's really woken up now and I'd be amazed if he doesn't lift the trophy. The French should be interesting though because he started sluggish here and the surface there will be a great leveller.

Federer should quit and not further taint his legacy. Embarrassing.
