Tennis 2016

Djoko gets the break in the 5th vs Simon/ He's closing in on a a 100 errors

What did the guy in the audience yell (to which Djokovic said 'you're absolutely right')?

Goffin is like a rabbit in Federer's headlights.

Easy for Fed. Berdych in the quarters who played 5 sets earlier.

Slightly sad that Djokovic can play as badly as he did today and still beat 95% of the players on tour.

He said easy draw to the semis to be fair.
Is Federer getting an easy ride to the semis even a thing? First time I've heard it, unsurprisingly from a Nadal fan. He'd probably make it regardless if we're being honest, as would Djokovic and whoever is among the best at the time.

Most of the top 4 get an 'easy' draw to the semis. Do agree that it's a bit of a uneccessary gripe to have

I myself said that all the best 4 get easy draws because of the lack of quality, but even out of those easy ones I think Goffin plus Berdych is pretty much the easiest combination possible.

Federer in getting a walkover to the semis shocker
Dolgopolov and Dimitrov were pretty much the toughest players he could have drawn in the second and third rounds, and Berdych will probably beat him!

It's not like Djokovic is known for always having the toughest possible route, either. I'm already happy that he didn't get to maul poor Hanescu again (against whom he seems to be drawn in 4/6 tournaments... my subjective impression).

The problem is that, for a while now, there simply haven't been any fresh players able to establish themselves in the 4-8 ranking spots. It's the same old faces, most of them approaching or already eclipsing 30 without being able to remotely match the big 3 (I won't include Nadal) in terms of consistency.
The generation of players now aged around 25 proves to be rather weak compared to generations past. My last hope is Thiem.

it might get tough now for Djokovic after unnecessary 5 sets against Simon. both Nishikori and Fed may and most likely will drag him to 4th set. if he survives that, he will probably play against relatively fresh Murray in the final. I know he once did manage to play for 5 hours against Murray and then 6 hours in final against Nadal, but that was when he was 24. for some reason, I'm not even that sure he'll go past Federer this time.

Sharapova mocks the rules with every fecking serve. An absolute travesty that no ref ever calls her out on her blatant time violations.

Federer stepping up just enough in the tiebreak. Very even game otherwise (I've seen it from 5-4 onwards)

Come on Federer. One more time.

Although it would be typical for him to finally beat Djokovic And then lose in four in the final.

And Sharapova got bitchslapped again against Serena. Most players don't have a great record against her, but Maria's is just embarrassing for a consistent top player like her. 18th loss in a row against Serena and in only 3 he won a set, while beeing destroyed in pretty much every other game.

Excited for Nole - Federer, it's pretty much the same like the last slams. Roger looks more impressive in the first rounds, but when It counts Nole is there and beats him. I guess it will be like that again and the winner should then win the slam, but I hope it will be a tough and interesting game.

The dilemma with Roger nowadays is that he has no consistency big match wise. Even if he manages to beat Djoker, there's no guarantee that he'll be able to do the same to Murray in the final, for example.

Djok cruising to another slam. Absolute machine. He will beat Fed, of course. Who's done brilliantly to reach another slam semi. Seriously when are the so called next generation going to come through? Dimitrov, Raonic, Goffin, Dolpologov, Paire, Janowicz (wtf happened to him?! Looked a slam winner) They're still getting creamed by 35 yr old Fed.

Raonic has had a great start to the season to be fair, wouldn't be surprised to see him make the final.

The "next generation" is pretty much done already. That many 30+ year old players in the top 10 give ample testament to that. It's up to the next next generation to show if they can produce some genuine greats.

Congratulations to Johanna Konta, fantastic win against Zhang Shuai. 2016 will be the first year since 1977 that GB has a semi-finalist in the mens AND womens draw of a Grand Slam!

If Federer doesn't win, and he probably won't, I hope Raonic wins the slam. We need a new and younger GS winner.
