Ten Hag press conference - Brentford away

Imagine caring how a manager acts during a fecking press conference.
Are you new to the presser scrutineers? There's a whole subsection of the caf that pores over this shit and gives it a rating for entertainment value. Fecking weirdos.

Obviously not wumming. The Brighton game clearly showed how ETH is being set up to fail by the club. Just like the other managers were.

But the difference here is that setting up a top manager in their prime to fail is way worse than doing it to no-marks or has-beens like the previous 4.

If fans didn't lose their shit and kick up a stink Arnautovic would be a United player by now.

So if you take issue with what he wrote, which I think given your curt reply you do, tell me what you suggest?

Neither of them were injury prone prior to Solskjaer joining.

Pogba had missed 28 games to injury in his entire career prior to Solskjaer (circa 7 years). 16 of them in the 2.5 years under Mourinho.
Since Solskjaer joined he missed 73 games in just 3.5 years.

Martial also only missed 7 games in 3.5 years under LVG/Jose Mourinho to injury. Since Solskjaer joined that number is 49.
Thank you for that, I stand corrected. I remember Pogba as being unavailable for a lot of games but I guess a lot of that was under OGS.

What a disaster that guy was.

“set up to fail”. As if anyone at the club will make more money or be happier if the club fails rather than succeeds. As if anyone at the club knows how to do anything except fail at this point, so has a choice in the matter.

Dont need to write an essay to make a point.

People are in a spiral of doom because it took losing at home to Brighton on the first day of the season to kick start any sort of transfer action at all. Apparently the only thing that can move Murtough from his stupor is fury on social media. So cutting the management slack is evidently counterproductive (and by management I mean above ETH).

If we hadn't lost to Brighton we'd have probably gone into the season, assuming FDJ doesn't happen, with McFred, Rashford and Martial all defacto first choice.
But that is just made up conjecture. How do you know there was not "any sort of transfer action" before? Murtough even flew to fecking Barcelona, didn't he. For all we know, they've been busy working on transfers all summer. It's absurd and completely baseless to claim otherwise. Now obviously they haven't been successful in the midfielder and striker hunt so far, but that doesn't mean they haven't been working on it.

What was kickstarted after the Brighton loss was a flurry of transfer stories. Don't confuse what you read with what is going on, we have no clue.

I'm serious, because you need to stop worrying your pretty little heads. Let the man work. This place is a fecking nightmare circus full of hysteria. Calm the feck down. Stop thinking up stuff based on things you don't know.

He's telling you he is happy with the board collaboration, why not just believe him.

Because Van Gaal said he was happy when the truth came out in the end. Because Jose said he was happy but the truth came out in the end. Because Ole said he was happy. Because Ralf said he was happy until the players started throwing him under the bus. Basically he needs to stay on the corporate line otherwise, like Ralf, he will be out on his arse.

I like his nothing answers, “loose lips sink ships” and anything he gives to those vultures will be used to beat him with!

Carry on giving them nothing Erik!

.
You're under new management now. Why not cut them some slack? Or, if you're not going to cut them slack, at least don't mercilessly pile the failings of the last 10 years onto them.

It's your choice as fans really, you can face the new season with curiosity and observe the work Ten Hag and the team will be doing with support and openness, or you can, from the get go, turn the season into a nightmare for everyone involved by churning every single thing that happens into an obsessive swirl of negativity.
At some point Man United fans need to be ready to actually like their club and/or their team.

I agree with this, but unfortunately, people will always moan. However, the fact that they watch and support their club week in, week out showed how much they ''like'' the club, despite being so negative.

Don’t confuse the Caf with United supporters - yes there are some here (check the Duncan Edwards thread) but in a minority

Wow - a sane post and then I saw it came from you. Yikes - back to blaming the club , management, SAF, Ole, Jose , Gill , ETH, OT pitch etc.

No he's here to actually give answers to the fans watching this press conference.

Heh - no he's not.

He's there to answer questions from the media.

That's what the "press" in "press conference" refers to (anachronistically, these days, but whatever).

He's definitely not there to cater to idiotic fans who want to have their prejudices confirmed - that much is clear.

Mad a Bayern fan has to say this to some of our fans at the moment.

Spot on again

Fan of the best-run club in the world is subtly trolling the shit out of you all.
Imagine having the balls to come and lecture us to be patient after 10 years of mediocrity and false dawns.
You don't to be an expert to see how inept and clueless our new board is and how bad this will end.
No major signings so far and no pre-season for them, paper-thin squad with relegation level midfield, reactive transfer approach after our first defeat, going for below-par players like Arnautovic, Rabiot... But yeah, we should give a chance our managment, because ETH is smiling at pressers and they are obviously doing a great job behind the scenes, expecting FDJ, Hakimi and Joao Felix on deadline

Hypocritical as hell too. How many times in recent memory have Bayern sacked their manager for committing the heinous crime of being in 2nd place at the midpoint of the season?

And the media delivers these answers to the fans, or what's the purpose of their job ?

What are you trying to say here?

Being set up to fail doesn't have to be intentional, you realise? The club are setting ETH up to fail because the people above him are terrifyingly inept and clueless.

The implication of setting someone up, I would say, is usually that it is deliberate. You set something or someone up, it's a deliberate act. That's all. If not meant that way, no worries. I think most people would read it that way?

You tell me. How many times?

He has the right to defend his targets and fans have the right to call him out for thinking these players are actually good for a club like Man United. He can't really complain later on that the board forced on these transfers with such kind of quotes, he made it clear : he really thinks these players are good enough transfer targets for us, so instead of fans saying " the board is setting him up to fail ", they need to re-consider if he should be blamed as much as Murtough.

It sounds like you are already preparing for how much you are going to blame which people in the future for things that might or might not happen.

Some people say hope is fooling yourself to live in a fantasy of the future, others say it’s a requirement for life. But living on future blame, that sounds like the worst of all worlds.

Ten Hag's press conferences are going to be very bland compared with Ralf and perhaps even Ole too.

Press conferences are a waste of time for the club in the first place. Its actually an optional event and all clubs do press conferences just for the purpose of giving updates to the fans. When you look at the state of the media nowadays, it is even better to keep your answers to a minimum.

And the media delivers these answers to the fans, or what's the purpose of their job ?

Sending the likes of yourself and likeminded individuals into fits of impotent rage over nothing in order to sell papers and adverts.

Imagine caring how a manager acts during a fecking press conference.
I want them to be boring as feck ideally. The Mourinho drama train got old fast. Van Gaal talked a lot and was interesting and it just gave them ammunition to take the piss out of him and be cnuts. Give them nothing to write about.
The likes of Ferguson who turned his press conferences into useful tools feels like too much to ask for and impossible in todays game. Most of his press stuff was boring as feck anyway. He threw the odd grenade out, but most of it was yes / no or occasionally deliberately blinkered saying stuff like we were the better team and the red card was nonsense after we were completely shit and second best and Keane punched someone 2 feet in front of the ref.

Stop being so sensible, it doesn't work with most caf posters, they just want to rant and rave about everything.

It's only his second game, of course his answers are bland. There's really nothing to say at this point

Sheesh, you come in here to read some discussion on the presser and all you find is a Bayern fan speaking sense while so-called United fans are convicting EtH of crimes he will be committing in the future.

Those crimes being blaming Murtaugh and co over the lack of transfers IN THE FUTURE, while having the temerity of not calling out the club publicly in press conferences at present time!

That's some Minority Report level mental gymnastics going on there.

We don't have fans here. Ten years of being similar to other clubs have turned our fans into raging pessimists.

The funny thing is the transfer window is not even close to being over, yet trust our fans to have already given up a season in which most of our rivals would say we have a top 4 worthy squad. The worst thing about this is that our fans are actually giving the media the fuel they need for this rubbish. Same fans talking about a rebuild taking time are the same ones losing their minds after one game when the whole world knows the main culprits( at least Mctominay) will not be playing league games come October.

Seems like noone cares about the players we have already signed. Eriksen showed us on Sunday how good he can be from deep. Martinez was good on Sunday. Malacia is yet to play. We have a few youngsters coming through and there are clear signs of transfer activity on our end. Yes Barca hurt our window, but no club would have been able to foresee how much of a mess Barca would drag everyone into. Our new board tried to get that transfer over the line, it didn't go through, just like has happened with every team. In fact one can make the case it happened a lot under Sir Alex, yet the media has our fans convinced that we lost the transfer window and should be embarrassed. Under SAF, every single summer due to us not being hyper aggressive in the market, the media always favored our rivals to start the season, yet the real work is actually done by coaches, not simply signing expensive new toys for fans to fawn over. Make no mistake, we need at least one midfielder to come into the team. I would also love us to have an additional attacker. With time I really believe by simply making those additional signings, this team will be a lot better than people think. We finished second in 20/21 and 3rd in 19/20 due mainly to individual brilliance from a few of our players, we have better players ( who are fit, so not Pogba) than we did in those seasons and a much better manager than we did at the time. Top 4 last season was lost due to us imploding, not the strength of Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal....so lets see how this season plays out and not rush to negative conclusions

Decent questions make a good presser but it is rare that it happens especially in ours.

Maybe few are missing the truth tellers and honest people like Jose and Rangnick :D

Looks like few enjoy manager shitting on players in PC.

If you’d gone through the last 10 years we have.. you’d probably feel slightly different. Put the shoe on the other foot. It’s been a shite show year after year. I do get your point but at the same time, you don’t support a club this size that is being fleeced and used as a cash cow like this. Imagine Bayern not getting champions league more often than not, finishing 6th and watching Dortmund sweep up year after year and get the best talent, best manager. Even watching a team that used to almost get relegated, now dominate your league. Oh and we have liverpool winning things too.. just got extra measure.

there Is so much hysteria on here, it is pretty bad but so is this club right now and what the fan base has been through, seeing the club you love, run this way, it hurts. It’s painful and I’m not sure you could know how it feels as a Bayern fan. We’re a sleeping giant, to a club millions a debt, that needs upgrading in every sense… with owners who keep taking money out. We haven’t been run well for a long long time. It’s not a joke. It’s been going on too long.

ETH is a light at the end of the tunnel and we need to back him.. but it doesn’t erase the last 10 years. I totally get why some fans have had enough. I guess what it comes down to is lack of trust in the powers that be and their business. Let’s hope ETH can work miracles. We’re really counting on this guy.

No single question about tactics and what could change from last week.
These journalists are useless.

Journalists ask on topics that are trendy. And sad reality is barely anyone cares about false nines, pressing triggers or attacking patterns. However, write an article about Ronaldo being unhappy, Rashford wanting to leave or new transfer targets and you will get thousands clicks.

the least convincing yes I've ever heard in my life

It looks like he is trying to analyze what could be the real intention behind the question, so he says 'yes' like he is thinking about something. The club is certainly backing him and supporting him in terms of transfers. Its the press that have no idea what is happening, so they use the fans sentiment and the delay in transfers to make it look like a disaster is happening.

We have been through a full decade of being shit in every department yet some here like you still have the nerve to tell us the problem is the fans being "pessimistic".

Yeah - and that's one thing: enjoying it, wanting the manager to agree with them with regard to individual players, etc.

I get that, it's at least partly understandable, as long as it remains a private wish (to so speak).

But those who actually seem surprised (or even pissed off) when the manager doesn't come out stating that players X, Y and Z are useless - I mean, how far removed from reality are those people? Would they advertise a pair of jeans they wanted to sell online as "shit jeans, useless as feck, plz buy"?
