Music Taylor Swift

Everytime I see this thread bumped I cant help but click it, in the hope of someone finally posting something that can help me get even a vague understanding, of were these over 30 year old football forum posting men are coming from in their devotion to a pop star aimed at 15-17 year old girls. But everytime I just leave more confused, it's like trying to understand a different species, I am just going to have to file it under other things I'll never understand, like furries or my little pony bros or wwe fans or the appeal of duafcs' latest pizza attempt.
I don’t think age should be a barrier to enjoying any type of music / film / game. And I get her being as big as she is as we seem to be in an age where appealing to the lowest common denominator and putting out generic mediocrity is the way to the top as long as it’s marketed and packaged well - see Marvel’s takeover of cinema and tv. But I also think it’s sad in a way - I’m not a pop music guy but if she’s supposedly the MJ of this era it’s telling given he was on another stratosphere of talent and creativity in one finger than she’s shown in her entire career. What continuously amazes me is that weight of her media wave vs the quality of her music. I’d happily listen to most other current pop stars ahead of her even if it’s not truly my jam.

Her concerts in Madrid looked absolutely incredible, with a few nice moments that have been circulating on social media. Annoying the tickets were so expensive (well, cheaper than US ones obviously but more than I'd shell out to go see her) but it looked like it was worth the money in fairness.

Pretty much the same result as when you ask the caf to vote on Video games. Films. Music. Footballers. Managers. Moderators...hell, anything really.
I don’t recall the caf voting for Fortnite or Transformers as the 8th best game or film of all time.

That's great!

I'm a big fan!!

Pretending she cares about the fans is laughable.

She is exploiting them. Releasing numerous editions of her albums and limited timing them. Using money grabbing tactics is pretty shameless, but when most of her fans are young, impressionable, easily influenced, while being weirdly fanatical, its easy to see why she would take advantage of them

That's not really money grabbing tactics. That's tactics to remain #1 on the charts. Which is another issue.

I find it hard to believe that someone that generates more than 10 million dollars per gig releases a digital version of her album so that she can make another 10k. It doesn't really make sense.
I find it hard to believe that a pop star, who is only top of the highest grossing tour charts because of her ticket prices, isn't motivated by money.

She absolutely is, this is more about the charts though. She even sells physical albums, and ships them when she needs the units to stay #1. It's a pretty obvious tactic. If she wants to make more money there's better ways, like playing another 10 dates at Wembley.

True, based on how she price gouges her fans she could easily add just a couple of extra tour dates and still make a few easy millions.

Give up!

You're probably talking to the biggest Swiftie on the forum

She's not "only" on there because of ticket prices, by the time her Eras tour is done it'll be amongst one of the most attended. She's genuinely massively popular and could probably sell out twice as much as she's currently doing on most continents. And the practice of dynamic pricing is not exclusive to her, most artists that wouldn't be called out on here do it - doesn't make it particularly right, but it's rather unsurprising considering her popularity.

I've also not heard a single person who's been to the concert and regretted spending whatever they spent, the production of it all and her performance are apparently excellent. If anything they'd go back in a heartbeat.

Oh, she's massive no doubt about it. But the fact is that as of right now her ticket prices are absolutely massive too, so the idea that she really cares deeply about her fans makes me slightly cynical. As soon as you start wedging business practice arguments into it the whole "I love my fans, I do" thing just falls apart. And, yes, I include every artist in that sentiment.

And she IS only top of the "biggest tour in history" chart because of the ticket prices right now. Her 2023 portion of Eras (which is the tour these PR folk are talking about when they make that statement) made more revenue than Elton John's farewell tour in the same period, despite selling 2 million tickets less. Hell, Coldplay's current tour has sold 3.5 million more tickets than Taylor's published numbers. It's clever marketing that adds to the hype but, then again, Taylor's a better businesswoman than she is an artist so fair fecks to her.

Yeah on the cynicism, I get that - I think that she probably doesn't care about her fans as a group to the extent very few artists would, but if she sees someone struggling or having an issue during a gig, she would genuinely care. She doesn't seem to be an awful human being by any accounts.

As for the last paragraph, are you comparing his 330 gig tour, over several years, vs just half of her tour, with approx 80 dates?
