Tactics are not the real problem

The culture is a factor but there are lots of other elements at play.

I think it’s now that the external pressure from the media (mainstream and social) causes all but the most hardy of personalities to wilt… it also ensures that no managers get enough time to fix the squad in terms of personnel, tactics or discipline.

You then have nearly a decade of us constantly rewarding mediocrity and failure and throwing money at young players before they’ve proved anything, or players who have already won everything and have either no real interest in pushing themselves anymore or are physically no longer capable.

You then have a league that is stronger than ever, with teams with high spending/retention power and no matter how shit we have become teams will still raise their level against us.

all that, and we can’t even spend our way out of it due to PSR.

In short, we are fecked.

I think it's fairly simple and has been for a long time.

We have a squad of mostly very talented players who all suit different tactics and styles of play. Some defenders like to sit deep, others prefer pressing high. Some like 442, some want to play 4321, some might prefer 343. Some of our players like first time passes, or running the channels, others want to dribble into the box and shoot.

Most weeks our players look like they've never met because theyre all trying to do different things. We haven't consistently bought players who fit a style of play because we don't know what the style is.

The not so simple bit is committing to one style to fix it, because it will get worse before it gets better. Ten Hag started in the right direction but a bit of pressure and he reverted to trying to grind out results instead of persisting with the style we hired him for.

The biggest issue is giving the bald guy more control than he should have over player purchases and spent too much on players that didn’t even fit with what he was trying to do or that were completely useless

We still lack creativity in the final third. Even if we didn’t give up these terrible free kick goals I’m not sure where our goals would come from. It’s been a problem for almost a decade.

And the others we said the exact same thing about? Our past managers have 20 league titles and 3 Champions Leagues between them. That should tell you it's not a manager problem.
