T20 World Cup

I think the only chance England have of winning this now ,is to come out and bowl 5 really tight overs and keep the Windies score really low.
We are already in D/L ,just a matter how many overs we get at them.

Bloody good glovework to get rid of Yuvraj yesterday.

7.24pm Play will resume at 7.32pm as long as the rain stops. Which it won't - the covers are being dragged back on I'm afraid. If they don't get going by 7.32pm, they'll be reducing the overs. If it's a five-over match, West Indies will be chasing 47. No idea how our statistician Robin has worked it out, but I daren't challenge him.

mmmmmm keeping them to 47 will be tought ,you can bet they come out swinging the bat stright away, even on a wet out field.
But looking now ,does not look hopeful of any more play

You've had a brainstorm haven't you?

Which two?

If you're asking me I do like to keep up with it and watch it whenever I can, mainly just at the international level though, can't get into county cricket.

ETA: Although I do enjoy the twenty20, test series are definitely my preferred form of the game.

I agree 20/20 is the way forward nd will bring in the crowds.
Lancs are doing well this season ,hopefully make Finals Day at Lords and do better than the last time they was there

It'll bring in the crowds, but it will probably kill the game as we know and love.

It's weird how you guys root for the local teams. Here in India, the state teams matter mostly only to the people who play for them. It's like a big selection process to get into the national team. That's what all the domestic matches are about.

You're telling me that you wouldn't care if Chennai won or not?

mmmm not sure , maybe the death of the 50over games , but test matches are here to stay ,20/20 is like the FA Cup of Cricket .like Holland showed us anybody can win a games, the crowds will like that

Nah, I think it'll kill test matches. I'm not too fussed about about the 50 over stuff, though - I thought it boring as feck.

You have to have the domestic game it is all part of the national set up .

Thats partly because the whole package of county cricket is alot better in terms of the pitches, overseas players, TV coverage etc.

Having said that there was a time where the Ranji Trophy would attract alot of interest when the big names would play more often.

I'm talking about first-class cricket, not IPL. Four day matches. We have the Ranji trophy which is the equivalent of your county championship in England. In that, my state(Tamil Nadu) participates, there's no 'Chennai' team. There are a few cities represented in the championship(Mumbai play as Mumbai), but basically no one would go to watch Tamil Nadu vs Mumbai or Gujarat vs Punjab. It's just a screening process to pick the players for the national side. There are no crowds, no rivalries.

IPL teams have fans from that city rooting for their teams..

8.05pm The covers are being dragged off. Slowly. They're going to try and get a nine-over game at 8.40pm and the target will be 80. No idea about Powerplays or anything else. We shall sit and wait and hope there's no more rain.

From BBC Sport's Oliver Brett at The Oval: "Streaker alert. A man in a pair of briefs simply could not resist sprinting across the outfield to dive across the rain-slicked covers. My sons have a "belly-slide" at home, which we put up in the garden on hot days, and this chap clearly remembers being five years old. The stewards were onto him in a flash - I think they saw him coming."

There is always one :D

Spoony, you might've missed my earlier post. Posted at the same time as you posted something else.

paul, yes.. 80 off 9 is defendable. One good over and there's a hell lot of pressure.

in those condition 80 of 9 is a damm good target for us ,they have to score at something like 7 an over.
A wet outfield could be the problem, potentail for lots of miss fields

it is 8.88 and over

I see. That said, what about other sports? I follow everything related to Manchester - follow maybe too strong a word, I don't watch rugby, for example, but I'll look out for Salford's results. In fact I'll back anything Manchester.

Is that a straight 80 off 9, irrespective of wickets taken? If that's the case I think it's a relatively easy target: less than 1 run per over above England's score, but less than half the duration for the innings. Over a mere nine overs, the Windies don't need to pay any heed to losing wickets, and it's hard to see them failing to win imo.
