The disparager
Are we looking at selling one of our brightest? It was a slightly tongue in cheek comment, but it’s hardly irrational given the current state of play.
We can't sign them all.

United have been, and probably still would be, interested in signing Nypan for a good while.
It is however, Nypan and his team that has decided against a deal with United because of the club’s situation these days.
At least that’s what the usually well informed norwegian journalists say.
I think it's more the case of we need bonafide starters since Ruben came in and we just don't have the spare cash for these type of project players. That or the profile of player Ruben wants has changed our thinking towards him.I can't even begin to understand this. This was about as much as a gimme as I've ever seen.
1. Played against us and looked technically special. Check.
2. Sent scouts repeatedly thereafter. Check.
3. Manchested United fanatic. Check.
4. City get him.
Am I to believe that our scouts looked at him the whole time and didn't see the value of purchasing with a loan back.............but City's scouts saw it and don't mind taking a small risk for a small fee that he'll make it.
We should be all over deals like this. We don't mind throwing money at Vivell's randos, but apparently don't have enough to secure very high ceiling talent.
United are very busy scouting for an aquiring talent, its sometimes just not the popular one from youtube. And honestly some talent have better options in a significantly more stable environments than Manchester United does currently. City have had Oscar Bobb come trough and obviously they have Haaland. Arsenal have the national team captain. Both massive assets to consider when you move to a team from the same league they once played in. United sold their most recent Norwegian talent without ever having gotten a shot at first team football here. And we are struggling so badly. Its just a very noisy environment to develop in.
Arsenal have stepped up negotiations for Rosenborg midfielder Sverre Nypan.
The 18-year-old was due to fly into Manchester on Friday night ahead of talks with Manchester City while United have also spoken to his agents.
we find out if a player is signing due to medical staff on Utd media attending Carrington. I can tell you no medicals are currently booked. What's the deal, @vanderpants
Why aren't you marching into Ruben's office and demanding we pip City to this move?
Not with the same skillset apparently. He's very two footed and skillful in tight spaces. He's just a kid but we haven't had that sort of player in a long time.I thought that we had a good existing pool of talent in that age group anyway or is that just a load of old shite?

jinx! They play at a weaker level, not against adults and none have the technical ability and two footedness of Nypan
They're still good players but he has proven a fair bit more and we dont have any that match his technique, which is why we should have been interested.
“Hi, hiw are you doing. No we won’t be progressing this one. Any others we should be aware off? Here’s the profile we’re looking for..”The Mail saying we've spoken to his agent
Was thinking the other day, wouldn't be be better off to follow the Haaland route and signing for a development team rather than the Odegaard route straight to a big club?
Not convinced he's good enough to get meaningful minutes at either City or Arsenal
It will be interesting to see how his career develops as while it is great to have good technique and be two footed it all comes down to doing it at the top level. They play at a weaker level, not against adults and none have the technical ability and two footedness of Nypan

That'd be terrible for us. He'd have Donny's minutes there, and we need them add-ons.The plan with City was to send him on loan to Girona or so I read anyway.
I’m not sure we offer that for players now versus other sides. Can’t help but feel a bit disappointed about this one. We had a clear path for him and somehow it’s not going to happen.
We have Fletcher and ibragimov at the club already and they are highly rated. Not with the same skillset apparently. He's very two footed and skillful in tight spaces. He's just a kid but we haven't had that sort of player in a long time.
Shocking we can't find the money. Lifelong united fan.

Chelsea and Man City can give their prospects time at sister clubs in competitive leagues that are a step up and allow them time to flourish and develop and be assimilated into the PL sides when ready
I can’t feel hopeful about our future if hand on heart other than money I can’t see how United would present a better youth development option than those two.
We expect too much too soon from our youth as we don’t have the first team to support them with 9/10 other consistent players to bed them in with.
I dont understand why Nice can't be a sister club for us.You might be right. But our pathway to the first team must be one of the better in England. Brighton as an example seem to do well with bringing in almost ready players, while we do more development in the u-teams first. If we can get the almost ready in as well, we will be very good for the future.
The sister club business should be doable with clubs Ineos owns. It’s still early days with Ineos and they need time to create the setup.
Because we played in the same competition this yearI dont understand why Nice can't be a sister club for us.
We’ve given significant minutes to both Garnacho and Mainoo but it’s not been because they are the right players for what we need now, it’s because our squad is woefully lacking in current ability. You might be right. I would have thought the better strategy to avoid that next season would have been for them not to qualify rather than us.Because we played in the same competition this year

But even comparing us to Brighton unless you are a top 0.1% talent under 21 you’re not going to experience success at United so aren’t you just better off moving to a solid PL side like Brighton, develop and then get picked up as the next step is made?
Can't expect us to nail all the detailsI would have thought the better strategy to avoid that next season would have been for them not to qualify rather than us.
Most of the players Brighton sign don't go straight into the team - they're put on ice for a bit til they're ready. Even Rutter and Minteh - big money signings for them last summer - have had their minutes managed more than you'd likely expect. Kaglioglu too, before his injury. It’s all about timing. Some players look ready made from the start and clubs like Brighton get a very good player that not only can play regularly in the Premier League, the value of the player sky rocket. Then next step is on the agenda.
We need to continue pursuing young players for the youth teams. We are good at that imo.
We need to be better getting the almost ready players, some of them need a little time to get going, others just push on from the start.
The players to good to not move on. Young players and ready to play in the Premier League.
We need to stop buying older star players. They are expensive to get and expect monster contracts.
I think because of the differences in pressure though Brighton take those players and give them time. Ours need to instantly make it.It’s all about timing. Baleba was there a year before being a regular, Caicedo had 6 months not playing for Brighton before going to Belgium on loan for another 6, Mitoma was on the books a year before his debut, Van Hecke two, and Verbruggen was second choice for a season.
Accumulatively, those players I've mentioned cost over €150m, but Brighton can afford to pay time on top of money. As a genuine question: can we?

We do need to continue pursuing young players but we can’t rely on U21s being a good enough sporting level to identify the best for the full mens game. And I suppose that is my worry. Can we get better at that side so that when we do introduce talents at around 22/3 years old they are ready?
I’m not advocating for star players but the likes of Mbeumo, Cunha etc those at 24/5 years old just about to enter peaks aren’t bad purchases for us.
Bruno a good example.
I think this side is desperate for players of that category though if that’s where you’d class them.I think they are more in the category ready and will obviously cost more. Still they are the better move than a 30 years old star coming from Real Madrid.
We need the balance of young talented players that need time and the ready made ones.
We can’t, but we need to do it as well as bringing ready made. We need to stop buying the older stars, that’s for sure.
Yeah I think we’re all roughly on the same page here with slightly different priorities.Hopefully I'm not doing this example to death just yet (while clearly "stars" is very much stretching it and yep, we could do with avoiding the big contracts) but Brighton do regularly pick up older players on cheap punts, almost as a necessary part of the development of their younger signings.
They knew Baleba needed time, so they picked up Dahoud and Milner on frees in the same window. Young forwards Evan Ferguson and João Pedro didn't have to do it all themselves as they had Welbeck as a proven experienced option. Veltman and Lamptey were signed in consecutive windows too, although that was a bit in reverse. Meanwhile the likes of Hojlund and Yoro have no hiding place. We've just paid a lot of money so you're starting, readiness be damned.
Seeing your other reply to Benito above, I guess we're all just talking about getting the balance right.
I think this side is desperate for players of that category though if that’s where you’d class them.
Look at our “best” XI and understudies:
Onana 28For me I can see clear issues at LWB, CM and ST where players are playing either out of position, or too much responsibility is asked of them at too young an age. I also think this formation has no attacking threat as you almost need two Amad’s one at RWB and one at RAM. So an argument can be made for a RWB too.
De Ligt 25 Maguire 31 Martinez 27
Mazraoui 27 Mainoo 20 Ugarte 23 Dalot 25
Amad 22 Bruno 30
Højlund 21
Then when you look at our 2nd XI:
Bayindir 26With Casemiro 32, Rashford 27 and Evans 37 excluded for now.
Yoro 19 Lindelof 30* Shaw 29*
RWB? Eriksen 32* Collyer 21 Malacia 25*
Garnacho 20 Mount 26*
Zirkzee 23
On paper with everyone having no issues it’s ok. But we are being realistic. Everyone with a * next to them is either leaving, injury risk, or too old.
If you are a Nypan do you look at that and see good development opportunity or risk?
Seems like that, as previous reports have said we are out of the running. Hence the careful wording saying they have spoken with us, not that we have interest. Out of curiosity, what is this deal regarding future players? You just know his agents are pushing against United. Sad part we have do deal with them on future players.
