Seems like the Revenue will be trying to grab what money is in Sven's estate. They claim he owes them £7.25m. If his money is tied up in Swedish accounts, I wonder if the Revenue can get their hands on it or is there some reciprocity agreement between the two countries? Any accountants on here?

The Guardian article doesn't say much but here it is for what it's worth. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...en-goran-eriksson-died-with-debts-of-over-38m

I’d do the same if there were no dependents.

He withheld it from the tax man.

How do we feel about that?
There’s only a moral obligation to pay tax if you think the money will be well spent. If you assume the money will mostly be wasted or siphoned away, you can begrudge paying taxes as much as you want (imho)

To be fair, if you aren't making said assumption by now you're probably not paying them yet. Tax money has never been well spent.

And that’s pretty much my standpoint. I resent them, not because I don’t believe in paying my share, but because I believe it’ll do no fecking good if I do

Didnt he get ripped off massively by someone?
Yep. Some "financial adviser" conned him out of £10m, so says the Guardian. As for paying taxes, I am of the opinion that my obligation is to pay the minimum amount. I don't know the Revenue's figures are accurate or just what they claim is owed. There could be a huge difference.

I think something similar happened to Al Pacino and that's why he did loads of shit films in the noughties

Something like that. Didn't a number of footballers get dinged after investing in some film operation? I seem to remember Rooney's name cropping up in that.

Poor Nancy walked away with nothing. Put up with all his shagging around and ended up with bugger all in the divorce. That's harsh. If she'd have divorced him in 2005 when he was all over the papers for his affairs, she'd have took the lot.

Always funny to see people get behind tax dodging when it’s someone likeable.
And someone who was dying of a horrible illness. I wouldn't give a feck about paying my debts either.

Wow!

Rich people not paying the tax they owe is a major reason the world is fecked.

Odd to see people cheering him on.

Is very strange. I think the government is generally inefficient with money and makes bad spending decisions as much as the next person but people saying well done to him and that they'd do the same are basically saying they don't have a moral obligation to fund our public services etc.

What a load of rubbish. You happily take the benefits of having things like schools and roads don't you?

Sounds like mainly through his own incompetence and then happy for the British taxpayer to be the ones to end up paying for the majority of the loss. What a wanker.

They weren't married so what divorce?

Exactly.

A major reason schools are falling down, the NHS is fecked , there's potholes everywhere and nurses and doctors and teachers aren't paid what they should be getting paid is because of wankers like Eriksen trying to avoid paying his taxes.

Proper Tory to be going yeah nice one Sven! Don't pay what you owe, feck everyone else!

He'll change his tune after spending 5 weeks in A&E after he breaks his leg trying to emulate Amad or Kobbie, 'cos that's what it would be like

A foreigner comes into your country, takes your jobs, uses your resources but doesn't pay taxes and leaves. Karma for the English I say.

Tax situation aside I really struggle to understand how someone can be smart enough to do as well as he has done, get into the positions he was in, and not be on top of his personal finances. Couldn't have been that hard with the salaries he would have commanded over the years.

This has always puszzled me as well. I think financial intelligence is related more to how well you control emotions than pure brain power.

I'd be angry if this was someone I didn't like. If it was James Corden pitch forks will be prepped.

Ah that's cool bro, I'm sure the government respects your opinion bro, and they will simply lower their spending as a direct result of your morality, rather than, ya know, increasing rates for law abiding citizens, bro.

So cool bro. Im sure you spend the money on things that provide a much better value for the public good. So cool man.

Also, Sven wasn't dodging tax in some libertarian Robin Hood like fashion. He was scammed for £10m+ by fraudsters. As a result, his liabilities exceeded his net worth, meaning none of his children inherit a dime. So. fecking. Cool.
