Sunday's gossip

A good attacking midfield player is precisely what we've been lacking for 2 to 3 years now. Is that not why Scholes was brought out of retirement?
Eh? We need a central midfielder. Lallana plays in the positions Mata, Kagawa and Rooney wish to occupy. I don't think he's better than any of them, either.

Scholes was a playmaker CM

An attacking midfielder - like Lallana - is more in the Kagawa, Mata, Januzaj mould

That's how I distinguish anyway - the one time I think you could have called Scholes a genuine AM was when he played behind Van Nistelrooy when Veron was at the club

Modric, Thiago, Fabregas are examples of playmaker CMs (even tho FCB seem to vary Cesc's position and role)

While we're at it, De Telegraaf is reporting van Gaal wants all of this situation announced by the end of next week since he doesn't want to be around and continuously being asked about his future during the world cup.

So, if these stories are anything to believe then come next season we'll have a midfield three of:

Carvalho
Kroos - Strootman

Not bad. Not bad at all.
Of course though if all the stories are to be believed we will also have fabregas barkley lallana gundogan as well....
as for strootman is there anyway he will be recovered from his injury in time to pass a medical in august... I thought it was more like october he was expected to be back in training - unless it was not as bad as first thought but certainly out of the world cup

Thats logical and also from a united point of view if they want to do deals before people go to world cup squads they will have a very small window of opportunity and I think most players and agents would at least want to know who the new manager is before agreeing anything

Agree. If it's to be LVG, I guessing the targets are going to be identified before the World Cup and hopefully signed. If not could be another DM situation with a closing window and limited options.

Even at double that Vidal would be a bargain, if Juve are actually willing to sell we should be in the mix.

85m for Bale, yet only 60m for Suarez? :wenger: I doubt it somehow. Wouldn't rule him out of going to Madrid mind, but i think they will have to go higher than that.

Agreed I think Suarez would go for more BUT he is 27 whilst Bale was a lot younger. This is bound to have an impact on sale price

True, but Suarez is one of the best about, in the form of his life, and coming into his prime years. As with Ronaldo, Madrid had to pay top dollar for the finished article. Paying with potential in mind can exaggerate fees, but Madrid rarely go for the very best players in the world without threatening the previous transfer records. So on that basis alone I would be far more surprised to see Liverpool accept £60m for Suarez, than i would Madrid being forced to pay a Bale like fee. Unless of course there is some unknown agreement between Liverpool and Suarez regarding such a scenario. Failing that, if we were in Liverpool's place would we not expect a Bale like fee before even considering selling him to Madrid? I doubt many fans would be content to settle for anything less.

Yea thats true but Bale was performing at a very high level the season before signing for Real too. I agree Real would have to pay a high price but I doubt they would pay anymore than 70 million purely because of his age (obviously not old but relatively compared to the likes of bale).

AND FINALLY
Arsenal's French striker Yaya Sanogo, 21, poked fun at Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho before the Gunners beat Hull in the FA Cup final.

Jones to Chavs

What do we think of that then?

Talented as he is; he's fecking reckless at times and as Keane has pointed out, hasn't improved this season.

Do I want him to leave? No. It will leave us with another place to fill in defence yet somehow I can't help feeling that he needs to work on his game to move on.Like number of Utd players he's not operating at the level expected of a Utd player.

Aye same if Shaqiri is available as well, id have him he's got massive potential and would be a good replacement for Nani when he goes to Juventus.

It's hard to criticize Jones at all, he's never been given a run in one position he's being moved all the time, god knows how much of his potential is being lost with all the constant fecking about. Another reason why we need a RB for Rafael, I'm sick of having Jones cover for him.

Jones to Chelsea? I think we could ask a very high fee for him, due to his age, potential, EPL grounding & nationality (Chelsea, as with City & Arsenal, need the occasional home born player I would think). The asking price would put clubs off I imagine BUT I do suspect that Jones just might be interested in a move - why not?

Has he a future as a United first choice, nailed on CB? Not immediately, not for me, unless he undergoes some kind of hypnotherapy or lobotomy, that curbs he schoolboy recklessness. How can you play through the levels for 10 years & still be as headless?

If you don't mind me asking, what's so special about sunday's gossip? They got one for every day of the week.

Because Sunday is Jeebus day the papers always tell the truth

Alexi Sanchez or Reus would be an incredible signing for us

I think replacing Rafael with Sagna would be a short term move, unlikely Rafael would want to stay as backup so he'd prob be off to the continent.

I think replacing Rafael with Sagna would be a short term move, unlikely Rafael would want to stay as backup so he'd prob be off to the continent.

He'd be back-up for Rafael or at most a situation like city where the duties are shared. Rafael will need to accept that situation here or at any other club, at minimum, unless he can sort his fitness out.

If Milner is looking to leave City I'd have him here in a heartbeat, such an underrated player (when used properly), often City's best player against us
