Summer Transfer Window

Good to see the club making moves early and hopefully we would have upgraded the three clearest weaknesses in our team before the season starts.

My only remaining concern will be a backup for Casemiro - we seem to fall to pieces without him and don't have any obvious backup for him in the squad.

how the hell does Arsenal get 25m euros for a 30 yr old Xhaka???? FFS....we are shit at negotiating if we can't sell and get returns like that

Honestly I’d take the same squad again IF it meant that the glazers were leaving. Having them still there and waiting for stuff to happen in slow motion is torture

have to be honest...i've never been one of these supporters who have been vocal about getting the glazers out simply b/c they back the manager financially most of the time HOWEVER this sale has changed that for me.

if you're going to come out and say you will sell the club for x amount and someone hits right in and around that mark.....fuking do the business and stop acting like cnuts. Sell the club to the sheik and let everyone move on with their lives and let the club do the business it needs to back EtH who's the best manager we've had since Fergie left.

I thought this, I assumed he was on a free or a token amount, € 8m?

Probably because our 30 year old is on £180k/week+ and theirs is on £130k+. Much easier to move players on when they are not on crazy salaries that are completely out of step with their talent.

According to the MEN, the club is preparing to sit down for 'face-to-face' talks with De Gea. I thought we had just released him.

We can do things in the transfer market that other clubs can only dream of

... like paying over the odds for unproven talent

Shocking.

And this isn't even the main list of deadwood we have at the club. Maguire, MCT and co will need offloading

Not at all. Only players there you can consider deadwood is Jones and Tuanzebe. The rest is just young players and loanees

Not sure why you think it is odd.

a) Five of them are academy kids and a lot of them get released. And in this case, two were sold regardless.
b) There were 3 loanees. Most dont get kept by their temporary clubs.
c) There is Phil Jones, a once-in-a-generation situation. And I cant see anyone against releasing him.
d) And then DDG.

DDG is probably the only odd release. But ETH doesn't think highly enough of him to want to keep him.

Some massive wage savings in that list though with those 4 senior players

You can sign a full ex United starting 11 on free transfers in this window.
De Gea
Phil Jones, Tuanzebe, Bernard
Lingard Herrera Schneiderlin Mata
Alexis Sanchez, Igalgho, Zaha

disappointing window as it stands not just bc we've only signed Mount but also bc we haven't been able to get rid of some players that clearly are dead weight

we can't leave for the US having only signed one CM and possibly a GK...that would be madness. We have no chance to challenge next season if we don't bring in at least 2-3 more top signings.

I also think the club need more players for the right side of the attack given how much a lack of productivity came from that area throughout last season. I think it's permissible to miss out on a big striker (Rashford playing more central) if a right winger and a right fullback are acquired.

Amad ready to deputise? I tend to agree though. Quality in reserve is an issue in every position apart from the left side of our attack and arguably LB/CB

Antony will give us a bit more this season i think now that he's settled....the disappointing one for me was Sancho and how little he gave us in terms of goals and assists. he looked a shell of himself the entire season compared to what he showed at Dortmund

agree though....depth in our attack is a major cause for concern as we are relying on youth to fill those roles instead of seasoned/proven players

There’s a more fundamental reason, IMHO, we have such trouble selling. As a massive Club, we are often selling players we bought high on and are selling because of non-performance. We are rarely selling players with high potential or that still have significant value.

Also, our players are some of the most scrutinized in the world, and with that comes massive depreciation since we are usually selling because we don’t see a value to the squad anymore. It’s just a byproduct of our status.

I think Amad deserves a chance but from what iv'e observed he's another inside forward hybrid. I watched parts of the game when he played against Luton, Sunderland offered him many options in possession but the difference is in the league the initative will be on him with most opposition teams either sitting back or using a counter press. Bit of a controversial take but if Diallo did play next season I could see him offering more than Sancho does out-wide if he gets his barring's with the tempo.

In terms of profile I think United need someone with pace who will essentially attack the fullbacks. The mention about quality in reserve is one of the biggest issues, the drop from the level of the first team to the bench is too significant for this team to challenge. Antony though I think he will come good should be a player coming off the bench as opposed to a starter in this phase of his development. From my perspective the weakest area last season was the wide positions, followed closely by the striker and with the depth of the midfield, defensive cover and goalkeeper being issues but not as high in terms of detriment.

yes we do seem to have a number of inside forward types and a winger or direct Rashford type on the right would be good.

If we were looking for a starter as you suggested someone like Dembele would be interesting given his ability and Barca finances - his injury record would be my main concern as well as his financial issues as Barca likely owe him.

I think we will be looking at a prospect though if we are looking at all.

We're not getting a new RW or RB. It'll be Dalot, AWB, Antony and Pellistri/Sancho/Amad.

We need a gk, st and a cb.
Sell Elanga, Fred, Maguire, maybe even Sancho. Sell Martial for Taremi (unless eth things he can fix him).

A feat worthy of a Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine.

We need to be realistic in the market with the salaries our players are on and what they actually contribute to our squad.

The likes of McT, Fred, Henderson and Elanga shouldn't be that difficult to shift given the wages and the reported interest. Those four really should be sold and should be generating £80-£90million. I don't think we're bothered by what we can get for Telles and Bailly but I just don't think anyone wants them. Maguire, that's just a different situation altogether!

How would we generate £80-90m from them 4?
Henderson is likely to go for £20m
Fred is apparently closer to £15m
Elanga maybe if we're lucky for a desperate Everton to pay £15m but they have massive FFP problems so I hope we get £10m for him.
And McT is a total wildcard. Newcastle were reported willing to pay £20m but we valued him closer to £35m. Not even sure what kind of a deal is possible here, if any.

But to get minimum £80 for them is naive to me. I'd put £80m as the absolute "we did fabulous" job with selling these 4.

It's like asking £10m for Bailly. You may think you have a point but nobody's buying it.

I'm seeing reports that we're trying to sign Darren Fletcher's two boys from City. Anyone know how good/promising they are? I'm a little concerned that this sounds a bit like the 'old boys club' attitude I was hoping the ETH era was moving away from - unless, of course, they are that good?
Would be grateful if anyone can enlighten me?
Thank you.

Joao Felix on loan for the season would be a very astute signing, can play anywhere across the front three and very much an upgrade on Martial.

I know we are a little bit slow as usual in doing transfer business, but I somehow like the approach we seemingly have this summer.

We seemed to have some sort of aversion not to overpay given our club's previous experiences. It's going from securing players' desire to join, then not accepting seller's terms, then "looking for alternatives" and finally agreeing to a reasonable price and structure of payment.

Today Sheth on Sky Sports claimed that we are looking at "other options" as we have been priced out on Højlund, but I see it as a negotiation/bargaining tactic. Yes, we are short of striker options on the market but there is no real competition for him as I don't see any other club being linked with him recently and that makes our position stronger.

But also, I might be wrong.

Pogba and Martial say hello. In fact you could add Bailley and a couple others to that list as well. We seem to be the team to get permanently injured players.

I’m baffled as to how we still haven’t shown much progress in signing a striker. Like, how was that not our number one priority?

It has been an underwhelming window so far, but with André Onana and Rasmus Hojlund seemingly incoming, it will be a 6/10 window already.

If we can get rid of Maguire, it will be a 7/10. And if we buy one or two cheaper younger players, plus selling off a few, we can have one of the best windows in recent memory without having spent extravagantly.

The Onana deal will definitely go through; I'm waiting to see what happens with the striker situation

In the order of getting deals done, I think it's important we get Onana over the line before the lads fly out to America so he can get his shit sorted and hit the ground running for the opening match v Wolves. The last thing we want is to start the season with a keeper that isn't settled in and has spent at least a few weeks with his teammates.

Yeah it's been very underwhelming. Striker and keeper should have been done asap because they've known its a problem all season.

Shit is worse than that as we pretty much don't have any starting keepers right now.

The GK signing is basically done. He'll be on the tour. Calm down.
OK so even so who is starting cf for us? Our who steps in when case needs a rest/gets suspended again or heaven forbid gets injured? Eriksen looked like he lost quite a bit after his injury and our current midfield depth is still the same old mcfred shit people will inevitably hate. We still have all our deadwood here. Getting our CF in would be great but still such a top heavy squad if that's the case. One injury/suspension and we are throwing in the same people we know who can't cut it.-except perhaps lindelof who actually looked good without the anchor that is maguire

I don't think we're looking at signing a CB anymore. Mount, Onana and a Striker would be our main signings this summer and I don't know if that's enough to close the gap. I was hoping we'd have a competition for Cas and a CB as well. Also I believe we need 2 strikers not just one. Wouldn't be surprised to see us looking at loan market again.
