Summer Transfer Window

If we can get Højlund, and then Amrabat and Taremi as backups it would be a better thab expected window from our end

Mount and Onana is a solid start.
2 first team starters added.

Really need to get a good striker though. That will be make it break. 6 weeks to focus on that.

Perhaps it was naive of me to think the club would be able/willing to invest heavily this summer, but it'll be an underwhelming window if the sum of our business is Onana, Mount, and Hojlund. That's not a summer haul that puts us in a position to make it to the next level.

Why do we want a 34 year old DM? Yes, he was good at the WC, but 34.

Tell you what - Mount, Onana, Suzuki, Hojlund and Amrabat as our signings would mean a great summer.

Perhaps a CB if we sell Maguire.

Mount, Onana and Hojlund is solid business but it's still a failure of a window if we don't sign a backup DM so that we're not fecked when Casemiro doesn't play.

Might not but lets be pint half full. The next level will be ETH getting the players we have brought in and the ones we already have to gel in his imagine to repeat the process more efficiently over the next season. We can't, repeat can't buy a tier one striker due to our finances. What we can do is offload Maguire, DVB, Fred etc to cover Hojlund and, a another or 2. We also hope that pre season a player were not expecting to reach the level, impresses ETH. Maguire 25 DVB 15 ,Fred 15 McT 30M Henderson 15m Telles 4m Thats 104m and 35.3m a year of wages roughly speaking.

What where you expecting in the middle of a takeover? That is if we even sell. I'm honestly surprised we are even doing the business we have.

looks like we are going to get 15m for selling Elanga to Forest....now just need to sell Henderson to them as well for the 20m and fuk off with this loan idea

that 35m right there and we could invest that money into a new CM especially b/c both Elanga and Henderson are considered homegrown players so it's good for FFP

What did you think we would do then?

I don't like the Mount signing but at this point have accepted it, but grabbing a top GK, first XI CM, and possibly the best striker prospect on the market at minimum is a "good" window.

I wonder if that money is for a CM or if it counts towards Rasmus. Or possibly along with Fred bringing it to 50m or so it's enough to cover FFP for both Amrabat and Hojlund.

if we get 15m for Elanga, 20m for Henderson, 15m for Fred....that's 35m going towards FFP with them being homegrown players which helps tremendously giving us the ability to bring in two players. Hojlund seems to be the guy EtH has focused on b/c Kane and Osimhen are too expensive. Amrabat looks to have gathered some momentum however by comments from his agent, he prefers a move to spain and not england.

if that's the case then the only other option would be Lavia

It's a poor window even with the above mentioned individuals. Poor window as you highlighted isn't reflective of buying rubbish players, it's reflective of not addressing weaknesses. The most problematic area last season was not just the striker alone but the entire attack. The only notable player last year was Rashford. The wide areas were abysmal throughout the majority of the season offered no threat whatsoever.

Now Garnacho was a revelation but still he needs time to develop into a regular. On the premise of this window it leaves questions for what the clubs direction is in all honesty. Some are saying in the expectations thread that a top four finish would be ideal but if the team had the same ambition as last year inevitably they will fall further behind due to rivals strengthening, therefore the club has to be more ambitious.

I also don't think finances are the issue but rather identification of the said players. Last year in the last 5 games of the season if someone said the team would target Mount, Hojland and Onana on the basis of what was shown throughout the season the only reaction I could imagine is disappointment. It's not a terrible window but one I feel where United just make a sidestep as opposed to actual progression.
He’s building a team not playing to fans crazy wants. Building a team by targeting solid building blocks

I thought we'd have a big clear-out, reinvest that money plus typical summer money, and have a summer haul of, say, Kane, Caicedo, Kim Min-jae, and Rabiot and Thuram on frees. At the time I expected we'd be renewing De Gea, mind.

Well Kane won’t be sold to us, I wanted Caicedo but ETH seems to prefer a Mount style player and also Caicedo himself will cost 100m, and Rabiot turned us down

I admit I was pissed about missing on Kim, but we also don’t seem to want to sell Maguire as much as I’d like so in that sense it makes more sense.

But I was always of the opinion that GK was a join priority with striker, and once Kane was not happening it became priority #1 for me. In that sense we smashed it with Onana on a good fee, brought in a technical advanced mid that ETH seems certain will make it here even if I have doubts, and are now circling a top striker prospect. It’s not a 10/10, but it’s no lower than 7/10 for me given our options in the market and what we needed to help the squad going in along with our FFP issues we all knew about.

couldn't buy Kim if you don't sell Maguire/Lindelof and we still have Bailly on the books. 6 CB's on the books would make no sense so that writing was on the wall. Rabiot and Thuram would have been useless signings for what we need.

Kane and Caicedo would have been great however that's upward of 215m to get those guys and we can't b/c of FFP and players would have to be sold before that type of move could happen. Then you have to bare in mind the gaffer wanted to replace DeGea and that took 50m to bring in Onana.

It's a more complicated window than most of us thought or hoped it would be

We definitely need a striker.
What we have now is not good enough.

Why do you believe that Rabiot and Thuram would have been useless signings? Especially considering they wouldn't involve transfer fees?

We missed the trick with Thuram. We should have signed him on free and have more relaxed situation regarding striker position. Now Atalanta know that we are desperate for striker and will try to rob us for Hojlund.

A lot of you are hoping that Hojlund solves our striking issues.
Hojlund is a 20 yr old prospect and I would not expect him to be anywhere near ready to lead our line.
Given how badly we struggled to score goals last season, we need Hojlund AND a top striker.
Hojlund for me, is a luxury player/youngster. If in a few years he comes good, then great. If not, we'll sell him and write him off as deadwood.
The probability is that he will fail, as succeeding at the sharp end of the EPL is ridiculously difficult.
For comparison, last year, LFC bought the highly rated Nunez who is not a youngster (he was brought in to make immediate impact). He scored 9 goals.

Due to a limited budget, I think the transfer window will be poor and our aim for next season is top 4. It is the Glazers after all.
The 4th place trophy is our focus and the fans seem to lap it up.

Absolutely.
I would add that we need a striker who is in his absolute prime. We can't afford to wait 5 years for him to come good.

im not a big fan of rabiot as a player and i think he and his mom agent would be more trouble than they are worth just like at PSG.....Thuram is decent but we don't need another winger at the moment

No one thinks Hojlund "solves our striking issues". We just recognize that he's probably the best striker prospect on the market and would rather go with a highly promising younger player as opposed to buying some mediocrity. It's not like we are turning down a bunch of sure fire goalscorers to prefer this kid. And if you say "just buy Kane" then anything else you say might as well be void.

No one is lapping up "4th place trophy" (even though we finished 3rd last year), but we are pleased with the seeming progress we are making in the summer buying a top modern keeper and another athletic/technical midfielder to improve our general play and structure while chasing an exciting young prospect.

The out-tray is nicely stacked for once.

The fees for Iqbal and Laird look a bit disappointing, but with sell-on fees it could make a nice profit in the future.

Very happy about the deals for Telles and Elanga.

With Mbappe up for sale i can see PSG going all out for Hojlund. Price will have gone up 40% as we continue to pussy foot in the market,

Think we needed to sell a couple of players before we could move on Hojlund

It is a summer to consolidate our position as a consistent CL level club, though. I wish it was more but it might be the most realistic option for now.

You'd think another top 3/4 finish, good CL run, vastly reduced wage bill and presumably by then a far stronger position financial fair play wise, could put us in a very powerful position after this season. Silver linings and all that.

IF the rumours are indeed true that Goretzka is available for not much more than what it would cost for Amrabat, then Ten Hag needs to be all over the former, not the latter.
