Summer Transfer Window

From what I’ve seen the only high point is the keeper. Bloody awful signing in Mount a waste of money, not the sought of player we need, and our other signing is injured, couldn’t make this shit up.

We damn well better buy a possession midfielder and a goalscorer before the window closes, or we're gonna be in for it.

Think midfield is a glaring issue. We'll honestly miss Fred which is shocking to say.

If Casemiros not available what is plan B? It was crystal fecking clear last season that Cas/Eriksen could not do a full 90 let alone every game. Can see a few teams putting Utd to the sword again unfortunately.

Who would be your realistic signings?

Well, I guess it's a matter of opinion as to whether or not Amrabat is realistic at this point. If we can swing that I think we'd be crazy not to sign him. If not, Khephren Thuram seems to be on the radar of several clubs and could be a very good signing at 30-35 million.

A goalscorer is a bit more of a challenge, unfortunately. The best bet might be trying to sign Toney in January.

We're obviously skint and it's a massive problem as there are still so many things to address. And next year we'll probably have to replace Casemiro and Varane which will cost a fortune. I don't see how the Glazers can limp on as owners with the level of investment needed.

We very clearly are not "skint" having spent £150m odd. What we seem to be is still very feeble in having non manager chosen transfers. I will say ETH's transfers last season all did very well so I have some hope (as much as I can't see it now) that he will figure out this weird midfield setup but we should not be indulging managers as much as we do and have done.

it's fecking clear we need to add another forward and another CM....we need an athletic, aggressive CM that can cover ground.

we badly need someone in the attack simply b/c antony, sancho and garnacho...may get you 10 goals between all three of them this season. Martial can't stay fit.

that leaves us with Rashford and a new kid in Hojlund.

Hell with the defense....they aren't the issue. The issue is the midfield and attack being basically impotent right now.

At the end of last season, it would be clear to any football fan, or anyone with any knowledge of football that we needed:

To bring in:

Minimum 1 solid midfielder
Minimum 2 strikers - with one needing to be ready to bang in 25/30 goals this season

To send out:

Donny
One of McFred (once we had signed one solid player)
Williams
Henderson
Maguire
Martial (could go once one striker signed)

Instead, we've signed a average No. 10 for double what he was worth who is going to be benched within the next 2-3 games
Replaced our GK (Onana is class fair enough)
Signed a young striker

We have made a mess of this window, and we are lucky that we haven't played City or Liverpool in this early games otherwise they'd have put 7-8 past us with ease.

at this point look at the damn loan market or something if we are that broke. Find just the best deep midfielder we can loan. At this point we screwed up royally not getting mctominay profit in to help our FFP ability to buy. Loan a backup striker and just hope he does something decent. yeah they wont be ideal but at this point we just need to do the best we can.

The McTominay decision was baffling. ETH doesn't rate him so his value would only go down because of lack of playing time. UTD should have taken the 30 mil and reinvested in a midfeilder they will actually play. UTD also should be more aggressive in pushing Maguire out.
The are red flashing warning signs this could be another disaster season. We have two huge problems. Lack of Midfield control and lack of goals. An elite holding midfielder is a must and a back striker is a must as well. We need to do what we can to raise funds to fill these 2 positions asap. UTD just have to accept that no one really rates their deadwood. Take what you can and fill the two positions that are a necessity.

FFS...City are about to sign another attacking winger and we sit on our idle hands doing nothing b/c cnuts like Maguire and Martial won't leave the club and finish their career with some dignity and not like Phil Muppet Jones

Kudus, Amrabat, Gravenberch, Kolo.....these are guys that can help the club. we can't sit idle and do nothing considering how shit we were the first two matches

Speaking of which, has anyone actually signed Jones yet, I ain't heard anything.

Easy: shirts will sell, people will buy merch and OT will always be full. Not to mention the TV deals are getting better and better. They don't need to do anything really.

This window seems like a 4/10 and the 4 is due to Onana.

We made some purchases before the season started which was good, but 1 is not fit in a position we have no real replacement.
The bigger issues have been the fact we still have (as of this moment two games into the season) henderson, bailly, williams, maguire, VDB, Mctominay and our planning for the summer was reliant on them being moved on to get in better players for the managers plan + with Amad and Mainoo getting injured we are light in other areas + we were apparently reliant on MG coming back (which is insane).

I have hopes for Hojlund to become a top striker if he has the right support, but that support comes from having good coaching and a good team around him. I'm not convinced he'll have either of those things here. We seem pretty poorly coached and the team around him seem hapless most of the time. I can't see Rashford or Antony providing him with decent chances, and even Bruno looks lost out there these days.

We need a huge rebuild, but we can't have one because we're stuck with cheap owners and useless players who refuse to leave. By the time the next window comes around we'll have to replace Casemiro and possibly Varane as well as dealing with the fact that we have wingers who can't beat a man or put in a decent ball, will still need a Midfielder, CB and second striker too.

We're going to struggle for quite a few seasons to come at least, annoyingly.

Week 34 update:

With the latest departures, including Gore and Forson, we have 36 players in the first team. That is too much and we need to trim the team further… Below players are the ones rumored to leave or pending a decision on their future

  1. Henderson (26)
  2. Maguire (30) - more likely to stay
  3. Bailly (29)
  4. Evans (35) - more likely to stay
  5. Mengi (21)
  6. Williams (22) - interest from Ipswich
  7. Fernandez (20)
  8. McTominay (26)
  9. VdB (26)
  10. Hannibal (20)

  14. Martial (27)

  1. Henderson
  2. Maguire
  3. Bailly
  4. McTominay
  5. VdB
For me its about these 5. They have no place in our squad. The rest are insignificant, mostly youth players.

Think we will keep Maguire+McT, and will be able to get rid of the rest.

Agree 100% and to think there is a thread about Utd been better sellers?
Laugh I think if Murtogh was a double glazing salesman or an estate agent he’d be living on a fecking park bench for all the commission he’d be earning.

So two of our three signings are now injured, outstanding. It's going to be a long and bruising season. A Qatari takeover in November may lift spirits somewhat but that's the only hope on the horizon for now.

Henderson is gone to Palace.

How on earth can't we afford a midfielder when we have sold Elanga,Henderson,Kovar and Fred

Hugely dependant on a 25th hour signing but I think we'll probably see one LB brought on loan and a midfielder (?) on top a backup keeper. It's more "depth" recruits but we do need those too.

And we did move Henderson at the expected value more or less.
Not as spectacular as the first month but maybe less terrible than expected.

A lot of these weird no selling decisions reek of Joel Glazer vetoing moves and wanting to 'preserve value' , a hangover from the Woodward era. Until the stains are gone this is a par of the course transfer window.

There will be the usual reel of excuses from people, but it’s woefully inept that we will be starting the season, potentially, with Maguire, McTominey, Van de Beek and Martial still playing for Manchester United.

The fact they are so near the team is unfathomable. They are genuinely terrible options despite the arguments that go on here.

None of our top rivals would even have them on the bench. (Tuchel wants Eric dier too and is the bizarre exception that proves the rule)

Before the preseason we had one healthy LB, the other (Malacia) out for 3 months (at least) and two backup LBs that TH obviously did not trust at all and don't want to play at all. And our scouts and football directors did not plan anything to find good LB as a cover, so now they will go to buy or loan for millions LBs that other clubs don't want and don't play at all. Can someone explain this level of amateurism? Sunday league teams would have better plans. Do you honestly believe that Murtough and Fletcher would stay on their positions in case someone buy club?

If this window ends with hojburg and cucurella:

A keeper for huge sums we could have signed on a free 12 months ago.

60 mil on an unproven teenager striker who has never scored double figures.

And 3 cast offs from our rivals deemed surplus to requirements… 2 of which clearly weren’t even considered a week before the end of the window.

all for 200 mil plus.

Pound for pound, we are the worst club in the world in the market

An annual reminder as we go into the last few days of the window once again relying on last-minute panic signings:

Are we though?

We came into this transfer window needing a striker, a midfielder and a keeper. We got all three of those. Nice and early as well.

I don't get the bed wetting, I really don't. We need a few potential ins to replace a few potential outs and that's it. I'm not going to lose sleep over that. Backup keeper if Henderson goes, defender if Maguire goes, midfielder if Scotty goes. The keeper one looks to be happening and the other two don't. I'm fine with that.

This is the problem with doing your business early. Everyone then panics when you have a few weeks of little transfer action.

Unfortunate with the injuries we've had but that's just bad luck.
