Really it's just confirming what has been said already, that we could be getting rid of 8 and I presume they will be replaced. Four either signed or in the process of signing. The rest might be kids like this Mexican player. Like most I would like another CB.
Everyone was saying last season that LVG had made the squad too small. If Jose is going to address that and, say, increase the size by 4 players - getting rid of 8 means that we need to bring in 12, which seems unlikely!

I suppose it depends who the replacements are, if they are experienced then it will improve us. If the extras are kids, then really we are in the same boat. LvG stripped the squad bare and then padded it out with inexperienced kids.

Don't forget though, 4 was the initial plan. There will be others based on sales.

Yeah, hopefully that will be the case.

To be fair, LVG did a pretty good job weeding out the deadwood (maybe went too quick if anything) and that allowed some of the youngsters like CBJ, TFM and Rashford to get their chances (and some lesser youngsters!) but there is still a bit of deadwood left.

That's not what I want to be reading, at all.
I have just read that as well. It is down to the club now to persuade him. He wants to go to La Liga and might just decide to sit it out at Juve. If that is what's happening we have to move on quickly.

But Di Marzio already said Pogba already agreed personal term with us (green light on he wants to move)!? Di Marzio clearly stated it's now the matter between us and Juventus, right?

Who is this Paul Hirst guy? Reliable? Why smells like recycling bs?

If he wants La liga or even hints that Madrid/Barca are his first choice, then we should stay the feck away, the last thing we need is a Di Maria MK2.

Sign players who want UNITED!

I might scream if I see someone compare the potential Pogba deal to that of Di Maria again, they are so clearly different. The only similarity is they're both world class talents.

Well here we go, hold onto your peckers lads
I bet you he was told to keep his mouth shut on this one, especially if he wants that 30 million. Juve don't want it to turn into the Mhiki situation Dortmund had. They don't want to be seen as a selling club and I'm sure they had every intention of keeping him.

Ah nuts. I did suspect he might just stay at Juve rather than come back here. Possibly with Madrid out of the race, he wants to wait now?

Di Marzio said he has agreed personal terms already,

What sources does this Paul Hirst quote ? If it is new information from Railo then fair enough, the deal might be off, but if he is just recycling old quotes than it is just bullshit.

I just hope this is true and we go for another midfielder who is more suited to the Carrick role.
Do you not see the gaping hole in midfield that needs to be filled with a creative midfielder?

The article he refers to says Juve have offered him a new contract with £130k a week

If he wants to stay at Juve to earn less than half what he could get here at United than it is clear he doesn't want to be here at all and the whole transfer would be useless anyway even if it go through. I only want him if he does want to be here, maybay he wants Real more but if he wants to stay at Juve instead of United and earn considerably less money than it wouldn't work anyway. If he wants to move and earn more money, the new contract Juve have offered will be insufficient to sway his mind.

Alright, stop right there, there will be no swap deals being done, they only occur in the fevered imagination of the idiot journalist.

But for a broken fax machine, we'd have had a swap deal last season. Rare that clubs the scale of United want rid of a player that the buying club can use, but it can happen. Mata makes perfect sense for a Serie A side. He'd be a player of the season candidate there.

Isn't this what we expected. He MAY not leave. That's not news. Juve want to keep him. That's not news either. They'll offer him a new contract, of course they were going to, to fight off a bid.

I agree its a gaping hole but one which we can still fill (albeit with lesser players like Herrera, Rooney, Fellaini. In that order).

However, we don't have anybody to play the Carrick role if he is crocked. We don't have another player who has the intelligence to stay just in front of the defense, intercept passes when we don't have the ball and then distribute the ball when we have possession. Also, at times find runners behind the opposition defense with long passes from deep. Pogba is great at carrying the ball forward but he can't fill Carrick's role which IMO is the least stocked position in the team currently.

Serves them right for still using a fax machine in this day & age.

This is going to become a saga.

I'd rather he just said that Pogba is definitely staying at Juve. It all reeks of games, negotiation and dragging on

We have Schneiderlin to play the deeper role, we have Schweinsteiger to play that role too. Both of these players are far more capable than what they had shown under LVG. Pogba is a far bigger necessity than a Carrick replacement.
