Summer Signings (Not including central midfield)

Apart from the obvious is there another area of the pitch where we should strengthen? Will a player become available RVP style who Fergie feels he can't miss out on?

We already have Zaha coming in who admittedly I haven't seen much of but I think I am correct in saying he is a winger/forward.

I am very happy with our defensive options. Our wingers haven't had the best of seasons but they have all proven they have what it takes to be great players at this level. I guess we will have to deal with the Nani/Anderson/Rooney departure stories all summer as well.

Fabio will be back. Zaha will (hopefully) add an option on the wing. Giggs will add another year. Leaves us, realistically, only 1 short in midfield. That too, only if you don't think Anderson will kick on. I fail to see where we don't have the numbers or the quality. (Maybe another top notch winger?)
 
A left footed winger from Wales perhaps? It would give us a different dimension in attack to have someone who is comfortable crossing the ball with their left foot. Nani and
Evra are ok at it but it's not really one of their main strengths.

Yeah. But my point is they'll be luxury signings. Like I said, add another top notch central midfielder and we'll take another giant upward leap like we did this season
 
We'll buy a CB, i think.

Other than that maybe a winger if Nani leaves ? LB could be a option too.

Dunno, why i get a feeling there might be some unexpected departures too.
 
Agreed. Plus with the likes of Rafael,De Gea,Welbeck, Hernandez,Cleverley and Evans improving this year maybe they will step it up once again next year. If the likes of Smalling,Jones,Fabio,Zaha and Henriquez can contribute and develop we might only have to sign players to replace our older stalwarts in the coming seasons.
 
I do think we'll see one Marquee signing again. Fergie will not be around for long and he'd want to win the champions league again. Having Carrick, Rooney, RVP, Vidic, Evra coming to or being at their peaks would mean this might be his best chance would be to make a final push for it next season. I have a weird feeling he'd want Ronaldo, which could be the missing piece in his final attempt for that trophy. Other than that, I don't really see the need for anyone other than one or two central midfielders.

I don't think Rooney will be sold. But it might be likely that one of Anderson or Nani will leave.
 
This is going to be a long and miserable summer with plenty of speculation in regards to Nani and Rooney. Luckily I would be travelling and would be able to shut myself from football websites.

I wouldn't mind the same team plus Zaha and Fabio along with a central midfielder. Possibly send Buttman, Powell and Henriquez out on PL/championship loans.

I also think Scholes will retire and we won't see much of Fletch.

Disagree with the first bolded part, agree with the second.

After signing RVP last season I don't think we'll get two huge signings in consecutive summers unless we sell Rooney.
 
Wonder whether Rio stays ? Hasn't signed a contract yet, and even though SAF said that he expects him too, he also added that it has to be before the season is over.
 
Someone like Wanyama (if he's cheap - 10-15m max) as squad cover/rotation for Carrick as we don't really have another DM type in the squad (suppose Jones is a backup?).

The interesting question (with us already having signed Zaha) is will anyone be leaving?...unless we're loaning Zaha to a PL team - we'll have Young, Nani, Valencia, Giggs, Zaha, Kagawa, possibly Welbeck all vying for wide spots or better yet, we'll have them 7 plus Chicha, Rooney, RvP vying for 4 spots.

That's a bloated squad IMO.

I was in the camp that believed we'll sign a center back but given that Vidic has looked good after his injury, Rio might sign an extension and the talent in Jonny, Smalling and Jones, do you think we need to sign a CB?

I know we have been linked with many but I don't see one coming in unless Rio leaves.
 
Doubt we'll see much activity this summer. Fergie seems to be placing more emphasis on plucking players out of relative obscurity, then developing them. Kagawa and RvP were imo exceptions.

Hope to see more development in Buttner, Powell, Fabio, Bebe, and Zaha.
 
I'd like to see us go for someone who can score a lot of goals from out wide in a 433, to join Persie and Nani. Kagawa and many others could play there, but I would love to have someone like Pedro who is comfortable out wide and skilled at cutting in and getting goals and assists.

I can't see that either Chief - not with Carrick, Cleverley, Scholes, Ando, and Powell in the mix. If we lose Ando, i could see Fergie making a move for Strootman, but that's a big IF.
 
Wanyama or Strootman will do. Thats basically it. I am pretty happy with the depth of our squad. We dont need another CB for next season since Rio is likely to stay and Evans improving massively. Rio, Evans, Smalling, Vidic and Jones is good enough. We have Evra and Buttner on the left. Fabio and Rafael on the right. Attacking options are good as well.

I can see a young defender coming our way with Vidic and Ferdinand not having that much left at this level, perhaps a left back to give Evra competition but I'm not sure about it after the season Evra has been having. A winger could be on the cards if Nani decides to leave as we'd probably sell him now to guarantee a fee rather than let him go for nothing next year.

We won't buy a midfielder.

Actually, I'm willing to take this bet. I'm sure we will. Even if it is a youngster.
 
Remember that Powell will be a year older, i think its more likely we start integrating him more into the team than splashing millions on a midfielder from abroad
 
We were close to buying Lucas and Hazard last summer. I'm convinced we'll be in for another marquee signing this time around. Call me mad, but I also think that Ronaldo will be coming back.

I also feel that we'll buy a central defender and a central midfielder.

:lol: Muppet mode much, KM? CM, CB and a marquee? If Ronaldo becomes available, I'm sure we will try but I don't see it happening.

Don't know why people are saying CB. We have Jones, Vidic, Evans, Smalling and Rio. Rio, based on his performances lately, isn't going away anytime soon.

I don't think we were going tfor those two becauee they're 'marquee', we don't work like that. We wanted a winger and we've arguably done that business with Zaha.

Doubt we'll go for Bale as others are hinting, he's too expensive. Think maybe someone like Wanyama and thats about it.

Exactly. I think SAF will see this as one proper chance to have a go at the CL next year and will shell out for a CM.

True, we tried for Hazard and Lucas and before them for Sanchez. We'll try again.
 
Can see a few players leaving this Summer including Scholes retiring, Fletcher moving into the backstaff, and I wouldn't say its impossible we see some of the longer spending fringe players move on such as Ando etc

A few years back SAF sold J'OS and everyone in a summer exodus, and I think we will see something quite similar. Not because we haven't had a good season/ been good enough but it seem's timely with a lot of players situations...
 
From looking at Andersons body language lately I think he'll be off in the summer. Wouldn't shock me if Nani is moved on either which would be somewhat fitting considering both Ando and Nani came to the club at the same time.

That would leave us with 3 squad places to fill: Nani, Anderson and Scholes.

James Rodriguez, Kevin Strootman and Joao Moutinho. Those would be the three i'd bring in.
 
Does anyone think that we might go for Alexis Sanchez in the summer? Last I heard is that Barca are willing to sell, and even though he hadn't been great for Barca but I think the lad is very talented and would suit us more than Barca.

IF Nani is leaving, and I dont want him to, then we have already filled his position with Zaha.

Don't see much happening unless a big name becomes available. Apart from midfield (assume Scholes will go), there's no obvious area that needs strengthening.
