That's twitter, so of course it's not reflective of the average fan or match goers per say. But it doesn't help when the club are propping it up consistently.

"The Liverpool Way is all about a club with ambition, a club that strives to be the very best, a club that is about commitment. That means that everyone is committed to the cause of fighting for the shirt.
"It's also about dignity and being dignified in how you speak about the club, on and off the field, and it's about unity.
"Those are the four values that run through my mind when I think about Liverpool. Those are the values we will always retain."
- Brendan Rodgers, August 2013.

Well it comes from the club quite a lot. But I certainly agree we haven't got a realistic handle on what a true reflection of the "average" liverpool fan is like.

That's fair enough, clearly the club made several mistakes in the past on the Suarez/Evra thing, would be daft to deny that. I can't say that it is something I have discussed for a fair while with my fellow fans because I haven't.

Yeah well Brendan does like to do that sometimes I guess, fair enough.
It's not exactly part of the conversation at the match with my mates.

They bloody love the class & dignity bollocks they spout. Winning titles? Nah, thing of the past. It's better to be full of class and ignity than picking those trophies up. Thing is, they have no fecking class. Rotten to the core that club

And what is it with Brenton's head? He looks like a fecking fish with a head disease. Scary fecker.

But the part you're leaving out is that he does it because it plays well to the fans. It's pandering.

And denying this mythical "Liverpool way" exists is to completely ignore the fact there's even a forum with that name.

I wonder how different things would have been if Evra just chinned Suarez there and then and gotten sent off. (As some idiots suggested)
I really found it surprising that Ivanovic didn't turn around and king hit Suarez for that bite. I mean he tried in a pussy way and fell over. But if he had have just stopped and completely and utterly throttled Suarez and got red carded.

I wonder what would have become of both incidents.

In all seriousness from the get go and without hindsight it was obvious Liverpool, with their blind backing up of Suarez, were digging their own graves. We discussed it to death and really most of the caftards knew that a quick from LFC and Suarez then would have made things so much easier.
Hindsight in this case has no absolutely no importance, racism is such a sensible issue that LFC should have distance themselves from it at the start of the controversy.

Great post Mockney.

I disagree. I think in hindsight Liverpool FC would have handled the situation differently.

Wow, how long did it take to speak to all of those? Because from what I saw at the time nothing could be further from the truth.
Ditto popper. How much of the liverpool fanbase did you speak to or are you generalising too?

Yes, hindsight is really the only way one could know whether wearing tshirts supporting a player who has been accused of racism might not be the best thing to do.
For what its worth I admire the stance Rogers and Liverpool have taken over Suarez. It would be pretty easy to accept an offer of 40million for him, and I doubt many would really complain given that its finally dawned on them how much of a cnut he is. Holding on to him is a slightly risky move, I doubt anyone would be hugely surprised if he sulks til January and forces through a move then.

Lesson learned, if you have a dog that bites, get rid, because sooner or later the likelihood is that it will bite you, and if it bites you once it will probably do it again.

Great player but trouble is going to follow him where ever he goes.

Not really sure where you're going with the tshirts as there will be idiots all over but I agree with the rest of that. He is a talented liability and the universal hate for him is really something that I've never seen in England and he has himself to blame for it.

I hate when people use terms like 'most of the fanbase' and 'in the minority' and all that.

Like feck did 'most of the fanbase' condemn him for anything. At the time I remember scouting other Liverpool forums and they were all pretty much like Rawk, maybe not on the same level but still they all thought Evra was lying and Suarez victimised. I know plenty in real life, and like the scousers on here, there was always a 'but' attached.

They are still at it!

I responded to Kraftwerkers use of fanbase. I think too if you come into the caf after a high profile controversial incident then the muppets tend to out weigh the level headed thinkers so I'm not sure internet forums are the best judge of general opinion.

I disagree with you in the sense that hindsight wasn't even needed to handle the situation. We're talking about a racism issue and the way Suarez was blindly backed up from the start was a big joke by LFC. The club and its owner should have been on a neutral stance from the get go, it was that fecking obvious from the start. In a way I'm thankful they didn't think logically from the start, it fed us with some amusement for weeks and portrayed the entire club as a circus.

While this is true, the fact that the fire was stoked so purposefully by the club themselves undermines the idea it was just your usual muppets. The statement, the blaming of Evra, the t-shirts, the Jen Chang incident, it all came from the highest authority.

In hindsight the muppets may see the error of their knee-jerk internet posts, but the way the club ploughed forward for a ridiculously long time with their counter offensive implies to me that they wouldn't have acted differently if they hadn't received the blow back they did. Those kind of "official" actions have to go through a lot of people before they're sanctioned. It wasn't just a case of getting carried away in an argument. A lot of the retrospection/damage limitation after the fact only came after the owners forced the issue to protect their global brand.

Like kouroux said, it was obvious from the get go their stance was barmy when facing a racism charge. Chelsea acted in the proper way, at the exact same time, so you can't even say it's something any club would do. Ajax also banned Suarez themselves immediately after his first biting incident. Again something Liverpool failed to do in the same circumstances.

But the club arent neutral. Nor are the fans.

The clubs stance was puzzling with both incidents. They should have acted and they didnt. I'm not sure why but I think getting rid now may be a good move for the club even if it doesn't seem that way.

There are subjects that go way beyond the tribalism of football. Racism is among them as far as I'm concerned. Had United done the same in prematurely over protecting one of its players I would have felt strongly against it.

According to Sky, he has apologised to his team-mates.

He's like a four year old. Biting, calling people names, acting out, then forced to apologize to his friends before he can play with them again.

This is the part Liverpool fans struggle to acknowledge fully, in my experience. I work with two scousers presently and they're both in denial, as the yanks say, when it comes to this. They're good lads, intelligent - and they certainly don't have any racist tendencies or sympathies. They just flat out refuse to accept that it's the racism part which makes Suarez so odious: If it had been limited to the gamesmanship and the biting, he wouldn't be regarded in such a light - never.

Their standard response is that a) United fans would've reacted in exactly the same way had he played for us and b) that Suarez isn't a racist, he's just a player who will stop at nothing, gamesmanship in the extreme, etc. The latter is probably true, but it's not a very good point. And the former simply isn't the case. Not because United fans are morally superior to Liverpool fans - but because the club wouldn't have given its fans any chance to act like the scousers did during the Evra affair. As has been pointed out several times, Chelsea is a perfect example of this: They didn't terminate Terry's contract, but they did distance themselves from the player in precisely the manner Liverpool should have chosen. The idea that you back your player unconditionally is only partly right: You do that up until a certain point, but not beyond it. What lies beyond is exactly the T-shirt country Liverpool found themselves in - and it's the perfectly unacceptable nature of this response, the official response of the club, that they refuse to properly take in.

Woohoo, Suarez thread back at the top. Its been too long!!

Tweeters will tweet. Some big news coming up, Guardian has a story for Friday, i.e. online at 22.30 tonight.

Some saying contract renewal with £60m release clause. Others saying Chelsea may be involved.

Typical guardian stupidness.

Apparently Madrid are in for him.

Can't see him being sold no matter what they offer, a week and a half left in the transfer window and barely anyone left to buy.

edit:

Also, the Madrid bid is a strange one- Haven't shown any interest all summer, spending a World record amount on Bale and then go for Suarez. Somethings tells me it could be a ripple effect from Willian to Chelsea- Spurs refuse sale to Madrid, Madrid bid for Suarez as replacement/to pressure Spurs into selling.

As long as the cnut leaves English football forever, then I'm happy :)

But I agree he probably won't be sold this window

Or Benzema is off to Arsenal ?

Suarez was angling for the Madrid move since about May though, isn't that why he started to play footsy with Arsenal once they pulled out.

Assuming their front 3 is Ronaldo, Bale + a 9, then players like Lewandowski, Suarez or Rooney could be better fits for the #9 job than Benzema.

I'm surprised by the timing though unless Madrid are expecting money in, not just from Coentrao. From us for Ozil (and Khedira), and Arsenal for Benzema (and Di Maria) perhaps. I wouldn't be surprised to see two out of Ozil, Benzema, Di Maria go if this is an actual bid.

Panic bidding for unnecessary acquisitions smacks of desperation, Barney.

It's defenders and central midfielders you need, not flaky 'playmakers'. Your squad is well stocked on those already.

On the contrary, I'd argue we still need two more attacking players at least. We were chasing Salah, Willian, Mkhitaryan and Costa, we're all those desperation signings too?
