Stretford End Flags ( aka Tufty )

Where the feck have I had a go at anyone? for the last time what I actually said (and nowhere did I mention foreign fans or a hierarchy of fans) is tufty is a bit of a helmet at times but I'd rather have him and his passion than 40,000 day trippers, and by day trippers I mean 'fans' who turn up from anywhere and sit their expecting to be entertained, moan about people standing and sing feck all.

I'm not from Manchester and couldn't give a shite where anyone is from and the only people who are offened by the term day tripper are those that fall into that catagory.

There should of been a comma between "overboard" and the rest of that paragraph, the rest wasn't directly at you. Overboard seems about right though :p

I don't know Tufty, or have ever had a conversation about him with anyone that does, but he's definitely a cnut.

Yep, North stand.

The thing is, it's meant to looking like a moving scarf like a mosaic. If it does look like a mosaic, what difference does it make if you're using card or flags?

Of course if we look like Stamford Bridge it'll look shit.

We have got the memorial banner on Stretty and the club crest on East Stand, wasn't too sure about the North Stand.

Noticed they have got banners across three stands now, looks good.

Flag mosaic design supposedly.

They showed this on Twitter

I'm guessing Tufty is responsible for the "Chosen One" banner, right?

Never heard of him (im a daytripper) read this thread than put his name into twitter.

It would seem everyone in twitter land thinks he is a cnut.

How does the guy get out of OT alive every week?

Tufty isn't a cnut, like the rest of us he his just a bit of a dick

Am I alone in thinking that the 'The ... One' fascination is boring, cheesy and a bit shit?

Don't like that banner at all and think a lot more effort could have gone into it.

The banner has been in the public domain (i.e. Twitter) for the past couple of days, but suddenly, only yesterday did it begin to garner some criticism, and this Tufty character was getting all sorts of abuse. I thought it was bandwagoning myself as one or two unofficial United Twitter accounts (Stretty News etc) said that the banner was "cringe" yesterday and then suddenly my newsfeed was awash with United supporters repeating it. fecking nonsense and I hate that among our support at times.

The banner is good on a few levels; first, and more importantly, it's paying homage to our new manager and it's also a dig at the man who wanted this job badly before he was snubbed. I see nothing at all wrong with it. If it was declaring "The Chosen One" and we had never heard the infamous "Special One" declaration from Mourinho, then I'd be a little apprehensive about it.

Also, any Red who puts in money and effort into creating banners is fine by me. Rather than that some toff sitting in the executive boxes chatting shit.

The problem with the banner is it will look ridiculous if Moyes isn't a success. The sentiment's right, but those kind of things are always tempting fate.

However I agree that he's doing more than those bitching about him. If creative people like BeardedGenius don't want their designs used then you'll end up with uncreative people doing it. It's always easier to sit on the sidelines sniping than it is to actually try and do something.

Saw it yesterday for the first time and thought it was great. Both as a sign of support to Moyes, as well as a slight dig at Mourinho not being considered for the job despite all the public soliciting.

I don't think it's bandwaggoning, I think it's just that a lot of people saw it for the first time on Sky yesterday and then posted their reactions to it. I don't like it, but I don't like it because I think its a bit tacky and cheesy not because 'Stretty News' (who I'm going to be honest, I've never heard of before) have said its a bit shit.

You can't base banners on that sort of logic though, can you? Fooptball support is all about optimism and to an extent hubris. can you imagine a banner saying "Moyes: Might be OK, you never know"?

Even Altrincham sing that they're "the greatest football team the world has ever seen".

Well the third way is to not make a banner for people until they've attained a certain level of iconicness. This is how most banners are made.

This would be usual practice yes. Especially at a club with such a vaunted history as ours, is there any real need to tempt fate with a banner? Even just give him a year and a trophy - not the shield - outside of the Ferguson era and then put it up.

Agreed with these.

Love or hate the guy, it's a bit shit to criticise his effort, especially if you're not putting in any effort yourself.

For a player I'd agree, but I think it's worth making it clear how fully behind the new manager we are, in the current circumstances.

But by that logic, you are immediately putting short-term pressure on. If he doesn't win a trophy in his first season, then we will withhold our full and explicit backing.

Huh? He wouldn't be aware the banner was being created and I'm fairly sure there is enough pressure on him without him resorting to worry about a banner.

OK, fair enough, but I still think it's more constructive to demonstrate our full support and our trust in the club's decision.
