Television Stranger Things (Netflix Original) | CONTAINS SPOILERS

Dustins mum
Do you mean Mike's?

I watched the whole lot from start to finish at the weekend, S1 was brilliant, S2 had enough to keep me interested. Very easy to watch in one go, obvious where the plot would go at times and plenty of throwbacks to the 80s. S2 Episode 7 just screamed filler, I can see why people weren't keen on it.

What do we think will happen in S3? Other numbers joining Eleven? I hope that's the end of Will being used as a gateway to the upside down. Quite happy to read Erica, Lucas' sis has a part to play in S3. :D

Yep. A tomboyish skateboarding girl would not have been cool in a provincial US High School in 1980's USA.
Well she was only cool to the 4 main characters, we don't see her interacting with the rest of the school to know if she is thought of as cool. Growing up in a small town in the 70's, tomboy's fit in much like it seems Max did, they had their small group who thought they were great.

I like the show, it's good, entertaining. Won't call it great. I knew the 2nd season would not have as much mystery since they already pulled much of the veil on the upside down back in the first season.

Hoping they don't go into army of "elevens" mode next season. Instead maybe finding out more about the nature of the upside down and what "lives" there might be interesting.

They might need to move away from Eleven saving the day at the end, not ignoring her powers, they can't be ignored, but finding a spin on the solution would be nice.

Not bothered by the 80's stuff after all it is the time it is set in. So to me it's just background to the story.

Max's brother seemed pointless.

Steve and Dustin are great together.

I enjoyed ST. Loved the nostalgia and homage to the likes of ET, other Speilberg films, Alien, Ghostbusters, Stand by Me et al. Even Breakfast Club got tapped into (especially Judd Nelson's character - Max's brother). I thought number 8 (Kali) and the Sister ep wasn't in line with the series, infact it was awful...but yeah it's well worth a watch. I'd say it's good entertainment, but somewhat overrated.

I reckon the bolded parts are linked. I think this year they wanted to introduce the idea of more super-powered people existing out in the world and will probably delve deeper into that next season.

Hope it doesn't become a Heroes.

This would definitely be a mistake but this happens a lot in television.

Truth is, I think the series would be better served with different storylines rather than trying to milk the same one. However, judging from the last scene it seems clear that they will continue to milk it

Enjoyed Season 2 but would say it lacked the originality of first season. The addition of new characters in Max & her step brother didn't add anything to the season either IMHO. Astin's role was a nice full circle from Goonies in the 80s to saving the day in ST

I suspect if El somehow managed to survive the ending of Season 1 then what Ray offered up in the dreadful Episode 7 about 'Papa' being alive would be plausible? He somehow escaped death sans powers? We'll see I guess but Modine had played the character great

Uneven Season overall but clearly everyone is now invested in the main characters. Plus, it's nice to see Ryder showing her range as an actor again

I think The Duffer brothers wrote and directed most if not all of season 1 but season 2 involved more people, so perhaps it may have been a case of too many cooks...but yeah uneven/lacking direction.

It all depends on how they do it. I mean obviously the entire program at the lab won't have just been based on 11. But how many of the failures would have escaped?

If they make it part of the mystery of what the upside down is, what lives there and why, it can work. If it is just A super hero team then it can fall apart fast

It’s a shame season two wasn’t set in 1985 and then they could have had a few Goonies references between Sean Astin and the group.

I'm 4 or 5 episodes in. Meh, I thought season 1 was better so far. The girl "acting" like she was drunk in that house party made me temporarily give up on this. That was hilariously bad.

Hahaha you'll love ep 7 then.

I also imagine that when the Duffer brothers originally created it they were only going in with a standalone season planned. Then the show was incredibly successful, leaving them have to plan for a second. Still a very good season, but you could see them retreading old ground at points.

That's bullshit...

 oh shit, you're right.

I think there should be an Oscar/Emmy/whatever segment for worst performance. She'd have her nomination right there.

Just finished it, but prefered season 1 even though the kid playing Will probably gave the best performance out the entire show.
This season was enjoyable, but was pretty predictable, from the virus to Bob, you just knew :(

I know the show is a homage to the 80's and its nostalgia, and i guess ep7 was a tip of the hat to Lost Boys and similar films, but it was definitely the weaklink of the season. It just seemed like the writers were thinking what story can we write so we can give eleven a "bitchin" look for the finale.

Steve was probably my favourite character, that i was almost was expecting him to get the chop for the shock value and given his arc.
Mike can go, he billed as the leader of the group (3rd in credits, really:rolleyes:) but he doesn't have the presence of the other 3. He just comes off as annoying and unconvincing. Given that the show is supposed to have parallels to films like The Goonies (Sean Astin) or any of the kids in Standby me, he pales in comparison.

Finished S1 last night. Best TV show I've seen since Breaking Bad, I loved it.

How does S2 match up?

Season 2 is just as good but im assuming you're all caught up by now. If so, what did you think?

I thought season 2 was horrible. So bad that I won't even bother with upcoming seasons.

They just used the exact same plot formula as season 1. Wonder how many seasons they will rinse and repeat.

Season 2 wasn't that bad. But the whole series depends on if they can break the formula for 3, if that goes the same path then it'll be a huge shame.

I thought it was pretty good. The production quality and all the little quirks that made the first season good were still there. It was just a bit of a 'oh okay I see where this is going then' thing.

Season 2 was horrible? Serious?

No it wasn't up to the heights of S1 but it was still great imo.

I thought it was pretty shit too. The whole map jigsaw thing was fecking preposterous and fairly central to the plot, so impossible to ignore. Ditto the weirdly homoerotic tough guy brother with the 'tache. What the feck was the point of him anyway? Couldn't act for shit and added nothing to the story. I enjoyed the first few episodes, mainly because I felt such goodwill towards the show after loving season 1 but felt more and more let down as the season went on. Maybe "shit" is a little harsh but it certainly wasn't good and a massive disappointment after the standards set by the first season

Yep, so many shit new characters. I actually liked Winona Rider and that Hopper guy in the first season, them getting less screen time hurt the show imo. Also, the nostalgia gimmick was alright for one season for me, which is the thing that made this show so special.

There are shows out there that are just infinitely better, like Dark or Gomorra just to name a few.

This is on my list to watch next.

Yeah it had some goodwill for sure I kept thinking "surely something will actually happen in the next episode".

I thought it nosedived after the Ghostbusters homage. As for the brother, yeah he was pointless but I suspect he was a nod to Judd Nelson's character in The Breakfast Club.
