Steve Cooper | ex-Leicester manager

we were linked with him last week funnily enough, not a reliable source, I'd take him, I wouldn't mind Carsley either. We are about where I thought we'd be so far this season but he was a very divisive appointment from the start and it was always going to end with him getting sacked
Ruud would be a good appointment, something about him seems like he could be the man.

I think Cooper is a decent manager and I can't see other gettable names achieving a lot more with that squad, but your fans were never going to give him a chance unless he was massively overachieving.

It all felt a bit like Benitez at Everton.

To be fair to Everton fans in addition to his Liverpool history you also have to factor in his personality as a reason to take against him.

he needed to hit the ground running and didn't, we also didn't seem to have a clear plan of how to play, hopefully the new manager realises job one is to shoot Wout Faes in the kneecaps

I think this is in the bag for Moyes. It might go tits up, but the chance at being a stable, unspectacular PL side will probably appeal for the next few years. Quite a few runners and workhorses in the squad too.

They desperately need a good CB pairing though, you can’t stay in the PL with that selection of options.

I'd take 18 months of Moyes, securing PL status before moving on, some of those that didn't like Cooper's tactics wouldn't be happy though

I refer to user to my previous post

Okay, fairs. He was a pointless signing. Should have stayed at Leicester. Got a lovely reception though.

Who do you want to replace Cooper? I hadn’t seen much of Leicester this season, but I was surprised at just how disinterested they looked yesterday.

KDH was always leaving this summer, we had to sell for PSR, should have gone to Brighton though

Moyes pretty much guarantees survival so I'd take him for 18 months, if not him I already mentioned RVN, Carsley and I still want Potter

Assuming Cooper was willing to sign such a contract. He can't be that dumb.
they are quite standard and its not like he had lots of options to get back in the prem either, he'll have gotten a pay out but not the full term, we could have also done what Italian clubs do, sent him home and keep paying him monthly

We did that with LVG. He refused to look for a job until United paid him the full whack.

He was basically retired though.

Managers will usually play ball and settle for a smaller severance package (e.g., a year's pay). They know how the game works. Those who are stubborn and refuse to go along won't get another job (see: Alan Curbishley).

Never realised that, I think they will regret it though. That said I fancy them to go down regardless of who is in charge ( unless the panel really g hard on City and only 2 go down this year) but I don’t see them getting anyone better.
He was never up to it.

Good riddance.

didn't you wait until he couldn't get CL places so it was a lower amount?
Yes, it was widely reported well before he was fired that it was a six year contract based on him achieving Champions League qualification. If he missed that target then it would only be one year that he'd get as a pay-off, not the full rest of his contract.

He was sacked after he officially couldn't get top 4, which ironically was after we lost at Goodison Park.

alarm bells must have been ringing when he made us look good twice.

I thought you should have got him over cooper to be fair.
we tried, couldn't get it over the line with the points deduction and him wanting staff out of Chelsea, with the points deduction gone, England job gone & United hired someone else maybe his stance has changed

His payout from Chelsea ended back in October apparently.

I am not sure that is correct. When he first got sacked, there were reports he would only get £13m as he agreed to take a cut so he could then return to management sooner. Then it became the October 2024 thing.

I have heard from someone I trust (traditional media) that he refused to lose out on any money and decided to take the full amount but that required him to take weekly pay. The low payout reports were apprantly fed to the media by Chelsea to try divert attention from the payout/their lack of judgment in signing him - as also don't forget the £20m fee to Brighton. I have also heard that his yearly wage was in excess of £10m, which was widely reported as the wage when he signed and was sacked. Also makes sense why he has sat out. No one in their right mind would pay him anywhere near that.

Feels a bit harsh imo. A newly promoted side sitting 16th after 12 games is hardly a disaster.
