Static, slow motion zombie passing

Crazy stuff. We totally dominated the game, Giggs was excellent and him and Carrick were well on top. QPR did nothing in this game... it's one of the most comfortable away wins we've had all season.

QPR ineptness doesn't hide from the fact that it wasn't our best performance. Whoever thinks that we were good, needs to get their head checked.

Anyways, 3 points and 15 points clear. That's the most important at this stage. Hooray!

That was a very good away performance. Totally controlled the game and never looked in any kind of trouble even at 1-0.

A bit of a harsh assessment! We were in control for most of the match and we scored two excellent goals. They rarely troubled De Gea and we kept our shape for the whole 90 minutes despite it being an end to end type of game. About as well as you could play away from home against a team that is desperate to stay up.

I have no idea what game he was watching. You know it's mental when the person with the minority view thinks that everyone else needs their heads checked.

Only on the caf...

Usually when we are up 1-0 I get fecking nervous and pace around the room swearing. None of that happened today and taking away RVP's knock it was a perfect game

The passing from the defense was pretty awful and it wasn't that great from the midfield. I wouldn't call it a clinical or a good performance. We got the job done, that's about it. QPR were a sack of shit and for some reason kept shooting from outside the box. No wonder they are bottom of the table with only 17 points after 27 games.

Wasn't really zombie passing today. We just couldn't keep the ball for large periods.

Zombie passing was the stuff that we saw against Wigan in that game last year, against City after that and for the first 10 or so games this season. That was genuinely mind-boggling stuff.

I think we should just accept that at the moment that is our style of play, and it doesn't include sustain control of the midfield. We'll get the ball, try to play it forward quickly, lose it 9 times out of 10, and accept it because we can still win it back and the 10th time may result in a goal.

I guess.

Have to accept that is what is called a professional or clinical performance these days.

Our passing was fine. Our defenders were playing longer passes because we were generally picking up the 2nd ball with relative ease, and so picking up the ball deeper into the QPR half. Also, Giggs and Carrick were hitting some magnificent balls around the place. The thing is, QPR were leaving so many gaps, that our players were encouraged to make more runs and so Giggs and Carrick we're attempting harder passes at a higher frequency then you would normally expect, hence why not all of them came off (but a lot of them did).

QPR's midfield was barely in the game, Carrick and Giggs were pinch/intercepting the ball with relative ease. We totally shut them out of the game and they were not a threat at all. On top of that, we made some decent chances and could easily have won by more then two goals. It was a highly professional performance and a good one to boot, you need to either lower your expectations or simply just appreciate what goes into a win/performance like this.

It wasn't our best performance, but nowhere near zombie.
Yes, some of our passing broke down in the final third, and could have scored a couple more, and towards the end we slowed down the tempo, but I thought that was on purpose... rather than run our lungs out and get tired before the Madrid game..

It was pretty awful during the first 20 minutes and then it got better as the game settled. I'll never be convinced about a midfield of Carrick and Giggs. It's just me.

Aye I did say it was bad for about five minutes. But a match is 90 minutes and jumping the gun never does anyone any favours.

Seriously?

You can only play against what's in front of you. No one is claiming it was our best performance, but it was a controlled performance. Can't really ask for much more really.

Forevergiggs, now is not the time to nitpick mate. It really wasn't that bad mate. We just never got out of first gear, I guess that's what frustrates you.

How was the passing fine when our two midfielders passing % was 80% and 72% respectively? This was not the first time that the passing from the defense was god awful. If QPR didn't have any midfield, wouldn't it better to take it through them, rather than lumping it forward? This happens every time that Giggs plays in the midfield, I love him to death but he is not a midfielder. He loses the ball too often and attempts too many risky balls. He won the ball for the first one and scored the second, so it paper over the cracks, but he was in no way magnificent or awesome in the midfield, as the bell ends are calling him. And this is coming from his biggest fan, if it wasn't him, I probably wouldn't be supporting United in the first place.

Time and again they were winning balls and getting close to our box. It's another matter that their players were stupid enough to hit limp balls from 30 feet out each and every time. That QPR was horrendous in and around the box doesn't mean we dominated the game.

Like I said before, we did the necessary and got the three points, which I would have taken before the game. But yeah, I can't keep my eyes blindfolded and applaud the overall performance, unlike some.

Yes but I am not allowed to express it.

I am going join in,

Yay! Great performance. Clinical to the core. Awesome, awesome, awesome. :)

Those who don't agree with your version are "bell ends"?

Statistics are generally pointless and over complicates a simple game. If trophies were handed out for pass completion rates Arsenal would be ahead of us in trophy count over the last decade.

Enjoy the ride whilst the going is good.

I used to statistics to support the point that the passing wasn't fine as the other poster was suggesting.

I can enjoy the ride and still analyze the performance of my team.

Fair enough!

You're wrong with your analysis (IMO).

Yeah, Sults. Listen to the bloke who thinks there are ten better League One sides than QPR. He clearly knows what's what.

That was a joke from your book. :p

I thought I was learning from the master. :(

And yeah, a dozen better not ten.

:)

Do you ever re watch the games, Sultan? If you do re watch this one and tell me that I was wrong, I would stop posting on this forum.

I said it was a professional performance with my second post after the game. That's all that was really needed today.

Ahhhh I should have guessed you'd whack the percentages out. It must be true! Statistics prove it!!

As I literally just explained, the percentages are low because they were both trying a higher frequency of harder/longer passes because our wingers/forwards were making a greater number of dangerous runs due to being afford a feck-ton of space by QPR. They both could have just sat there and quietly knocked 5 yard passes to each other and come away with 100%, but that would have been fecking pointless. If you watch the game, actually watch it, you'd have seen Giggs hitting some superb passes around that pitch.

Not only that, but they both worked hard, and did well to break up QPR's play. Also, Giggs runs from midfield were constantly causing QPR problems... did they show up on those pass completion statistics?

Basically, what I think happened here was that you saw Giggs and Carrick were lining up in central midfield and decided they'd be crap before a ball was kicked.

That's what I said, it was a dogged but scrappy performance from the team. The passing from the midfield and defense was poor at times. Please took offense to that. Some how I wasn't allowed to mention that.

I would be careful from next time and talk in hyperboles whenever we win.

By the way, there is another bloke who thought that the performance was scrappy at times and more determined rather than "magnificent" or "clinical" or whatever. He manages us.

No one has said the performance was magnificent, that's just you.

Agreed. Most people have said this was a professional performance to a tee with QPR who caused Chelsea, City and Spurs to all drop points not causing us any issues. We weren't outstanding but I just think the phrase "zombie passing" was a bit much really.

I heard the interview. Reading between the lines I thought he was being respectful to his friend Harry.

Get a grip.
Context.

didn't this all stem from someone trying to claim zombie passing? It's like some have forgotten what zombie passing actually means.......

Yeah this was nowhere near the dark days of true zombie passing, despite Ashley Young's best attempts to slow our play down and do nothing of note.
