Spurs 2018/19

Do you think the Poch-United stuff caused a problem? Or is it just having a squad overstretched/under-invested in?

Nah, it's nothing to do the United to Poch rumours.

Tiredness setting in is definitely a factor, too many players basically play every game and at a very high intensity, and some of them look dead on their feet. I was crying out for investment in the summer and we haven't got us, and it's a genuine lack of quality in certain areas which consistently lets us down. Rose today being the complete feckwit that he is by leaving it and allowing Valery an easy tap in, our youth right back giving away the free kick which led to the second goal.

Today the description is apt.

We messed up a bunch of chances to make the game comfortable, invited pressure on to ourselves and then conceded 2 with 13 minutes to go. We also offered nothing after going behind, no fight, nothing.

Right now it doesn't look like the side has the desire to fight for a full 90 minutes. We press brilliantly in periods and have parts of the game where we look like the old Spurs, and then it disappears later on. Today we were fantastic in the first half, best we've played in ages yet only took a 1-0 lead in to the second and got punished.

I don't know if it's fatigue which leads us to tire in the second half, or simply a mentality issue where the belief in the squad just isn't there at the moment. Maybe a combination of both, I do think tiredness is a big factor since the press was just non existent in the second half and it allowed Southampton to get a grip on the game.
This Southampton side are really good at moment..

Pushed us very hard last week. They deserve a lot of credit too.

To extend an olive branch, this should have always happened based on the fact your Chairman expected identical or better performance than last season but did not give you the means to achieve it.

The players must be feeling tired yeah. You looked knackered against Arsenal last week I thought.

This is where the total lack of investment from Levy in the last 2 windows is really starting to hurt you, there's just not enough depth to be able to give players a breather. The only rest your top players seem to get is when they're injured.

If Arsenal beat us tomorrow they'll be a point behind you, which is staggering really because you're a miles better team than Arsenal.

It's fatigue. Your performances are just catching up to you. For ages posters on here have cried about how you were winning games that were devoid of quality, relying on rivals to miss gilt edged chances only to score a late winner yourself.
Now the opposition are taking those chances while you are fluffing your lines. Very little has changed in between

They do, but we should have killed the game off first half and early in the second.

After that, whilst Southampton pressed hard and didn't give up, Rose was utterly incompetent for the first goal. Southampton deserved credit but when you're leading with 13 minutes to go, it's on you if you mess it up.

The more Spurs change the more they remain the same:D.

If can can we Arsenal tomorrow we should be finishing third.

I think Poch has had his head turned and is off to RM at the end of the season... No other explanation for them suddenly becoming pretty awful, and maybe some luck variance evening out. I think Utd will finish third as said in other threads.
Or maybe City if Pep goes to Juve

Ha ha, St. Totteringham's Day is still on! What a bunch of fecking bottlers! They deserve everything they get. Poch coming nowhere near United next season. Europa League in their new stadium next season. Some of their players fecking off next season. Boy, I hope so!

Our performance in the first half was excellent, probably better than anything we've come up with in a long, long time.

Then we tired, doubt set in, and a mistake led to a goal .. all downhill from there.

That really was one of the most brain dead pieces of play I have ever seen.

Think this is the major reason.

They look tired, Eriksen in particular looks absolutely knackered.
Yep. Their first team has just run out of gas and the replacements aren't good. Even their full backs, Walker Peters and Aurier aren't good enough. I'm struggling to think of one position where they have top 3 level strength in depth.

No, no .. the fans only want signings for the sake of it and they aren't necessary at all, it's just a silly modern obsession and the squad is fine the way it is. No way could we find anybody better than Ben Davies or a competent central midfielder in this market. No siree.

Am I right, @GlastonSpur ???

You could have had two sent off as well; you really should have won at a canter after the first 55 minutes like you said.

I played right back for my Uni team and if I did that in a game I would expect to be substituted immediately.

For a footballer playing at the highest level to leave a ball flashing across the box like that is so unacceptable. One of the first things you're taught as a defender is that if you're unsure you deal with the problem, you never leave it to chance.

They refused to give up when we came back to lead last week.. Rode their luck before that.

But they don't know when they are beat.

You could do a swap deal with Utd where we get Kane and you get Phil Jones and Glaston would be on here declaring it a great day and huge success for Spurs.

He's a complete clown.

For a top side like Spurs to sign absolutely nobody was obviously a really bad thing.

After 12 games I said they'd picked up several points more than they deserved, that number had easily doubled by the Leicester game. In truth their ability to win whilst playing so poorly lasted far longer than would normally be the case.

Generally fortune starts to balance itself out across 38 games though which is what we're now seeing. Their performances this season warrant less than 2 points a game which I think is roughly where they'll find themselves.

Do you think Kane is fully recovered from his injury or is in poor form? I know he has scored goals but in the games he has looked quite poor overall. Maybe still a streaky striker? Son was playing better when Kane was out.

He was fantastic today, it's nothing to do with Kane. Beautiful finish and they couldn't handle him whenever he was on the ball.

We weren't playing that well before he came back and now that form has caught up with us, along with some serious issues with fatigue.

Not much Kane can do when Rose decides to forget what you're taught as a ten year old.

Don't forget RW. Not convinced with Moura, Lamela etc. The CM situation is bizarre too although they are hard to find. I wonder if James Ward Price would be good for you's.

I feel like with the way were bouncing, we'll be even more up for it tomorrow. We started under Ole where basically we had no real expectations. The way things have gone though, tomorrow was about trying to secure 4th which would be amazing. But I think the players mentality right now is rampant and they'll be thinking this is their chance to overtake Spurs!

I'm curious to see their record of games before and after they played us. Dare I say, have United broken them?

People still want Bottletino???

He might be the Hector Cuper of this generation.

If they end 4th and us 3rd there's virtually NO reason to sign Poch, who should.move his ass to Madrid.

That first goal, good lord. The entire backline missed it one by one. All 4 defenders in a row let the ball go past with the last man, Rose, even allowing himself to be nutmegged by that ball. Easily the worst piece of defending I've seen in the PL all season.

@GifLord could you please have a gif of that first goal?

Regardless of the result, it couldn’t possibly be Pochs fault.

I find it remarkable that in all the posts criticising Spurs after today’s game, that no one has once aimed criticism at Pochettino. It’s all “the players are too tired”, “team full of bottlers”. Seems he can do no wrong? I feel he certainly has to take some of the blame, along with Levy and the players. But his tactics often leave a lot to be desired.

I definitely don’t want him here, and it would be at the expense of Ole. Stuff that. He’s not good enough. With that squad he’s won bugger all. Not even a league cup for goodness sake. If our C team can beat PSG away then a team with a quality that Spurs possess should be able to win at least one piece of silverware. But the argument is always top four is priority? They can’t even do a good job of securing that.

Was Wenger not got rid of for the reason that arsenal did always play excellent football during the first half of the season but then “bottled it” and capitulated, eventually falling out of the top four. Exactly what could be happening with Poch and Spurs this season. Why is Poch lauded for such a lack of success?! It’s puzzling.

I've said in the Poch thread that he needs to be questioned for the fact we've managed to throw away such a big lead. It's unacceptable and at the end of the day, he's in charge. We were so, so comfortable and if we do miss out on top four, questions will rightly be aimed at him.

But at the end of the day, he's got a left back who thinks it's a good idea to dummy a ball coming across his own box without even having a look around him. There are fecking limits to what he can do.
