Spurs 2018/19

Players don't get better or worse just because they're in good form. Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Alli, Eriksen, Son and Kane would all start for United, that's not really "the odd Spurs player" anymore.

Would they now though? Lindelof is doing great for us and since Ole came in we've got a better defensive record than Spurs so yeah I'd take one but not both. Would Son play ahead of Martial? Debatable. Would Alli get in ahead of Lingard? Again debatable. How would we fit in Eriksen because he sure as hell wouldn't get in ahead of Pogba. Kane you'd have to make room for such is his quality but it wouldn't be at Rashford's expense such has his form been

Beyond those you mentioned though there were calls earlier in the season as to why we didn't sign Trippier who's looking garbage at the moment as did the all the United players under Mourinho so yeah form is key to perception

We were 9 behind two weeks ago. Results have gone to shit since Kane has returned.

Last checked the score when it was 1-0 and thought that was that. Check three minutes ago to find Saints leading. Please never change, Spurs

bottled it again. and some of the decisions that goes in favour. :wenger: I'm thinking they've got the FA in the pocket.

And it's nothing to do with him, he was excellent today and just like against Burnley, he scored. It's so weird that the return of our best player has led to the team performing like a bag of shite.

We're a joke of a club right now, absolutely unacceptable to have given up such a big lead and now look genuinely unlikely to get top four. To lose to Burnley then get only 1 point from Chelsea and Arsenal was bad enough, but then to lose after leading here is incompetence. We have all our players available right now, there are zero excuses.

Great result for us. 3rd is definitely up for grabs.

Right now they're the 6th best side of the top 6 and that's where they could easily finish if they don't sort their shit out

Does Poch not ease players in? Player x is out for 3 months, all of a sudden he's starting on Saturday and your attacking rhythm is interrupted.

They’re getting the results most of their performances should’ve been getting.

Remember a few weeks ago when you were trying to justify the media suggesting you were in the title race? This is why you didn't deserve to be in the conversation. Serial bottlers no matter how many times you deny it.

Someone tell me how many points they were clear of Man. United in mid December again....

If Spurs lose at Man. City and Liverpool they can only finish on 79 points (also will have falling GD) so they'll hardly have any margin for error in their other games. Not easy if they get to semi finals of CL.....

I hate how often the phrase bottled it is used on here. Any random defeat leads to a team being accused of bottling it.

The thing is I'm not sure how else Spurs last month can be described. Pretty astonishing really.

Turns out everyone and their mum saying Spurs were getting loads of jammy wins were right, rather than the Spurs fans that thought they'd been amazing this season and the point total was 'proof' of that.

I've never said we were genuinely in the title race, all I said was that it wasn't ridiculous for the media to mention us as an afterthought, since at the time we were close in terms of points.

My position has always been we're nowhere near good enough to win the title.

They've got Liverpool and City away and will play five home games at the new ground. Palace and West Ham will certainly try and raise their game.

Should've sown up third and they still could. But making a pig's ear out of it.

Still have really tough games away vs Liverpool and City they will drop points. :D

Surely they cannot fall all the way out of top four

What is happening to them?
Levy didn't invest in the squad. It's really really weak outside of their first XI. They have no one that can step into midfield and replace their starters. Same with their centre backs.

Do you think the Poch-United stuff caused a problem? Or is it just having a squad overstretched/under-invested in?

I think Poch has had his head turned and is off to RM at the end of the season... No other explanation for them suddenly becoming pretty awful, and maybe some luck variance evening out. I think Utd will finish third as said in other threads.

Think this is the major reason.

They look tired, Eriksen in particular looks absolutely knackered.

Hope they don't lose against Pool.

Today the description is apt.

We messed up a bunch of chances to make the game comfortable, invited pressure on to ourselves and then conceded 2 with 13 minutes to go. We also offered nothing after going behind, no fight, nothing.

Right now it doesn't look like the side has the desire to fight for a full 90 minutes. We press brilliantly in periods and have parts of the game where we look like the old Spurs, and then it disappears later on. Today we were fantastic in the first half, best we've played in ages yet only took a 1-0 lead in to the second and got punished.

I don't know if it's fatigue which leads us to tire in the second half, or simply a mentality issue where the belief in the squad just isn't there at the moment. Maybe a combination of both, I do think tiredness is a big factor since the press was just non existent in the second half and it allowed Southampton to get a grip on the game.
