Sports Personality of the Year 2012

There is no way the BBC will give this award to anything other than Olympians and Paralympians. Rightly or wrongly.

has to be Andy Murray now surely? gold medal in the Olympics and first Brit to win a Major in 76 years

Out of those three I'd say Beckham is the only one to have won it because of his personality or image rather than his achievements.

Agreed but none of them exactly exude charisma.

1 Wiggins
2 Murray
3 Weir

for me

Although i think Hoy will be in there, possibly Farrah or Ennis

Might the Olympic vote get split among so many candidates? Wiggins has the Tour to set him apart in that way, and i'd expect Murray to have a large core of votes.

1st Wiggins
2nd Murray
3rd Farah or Ennis

Listening to 5live, what the BBC are doing this year is showing us all 12 sportsmen/women and then opening the phone votes for an hour or so. Not like other years while starting the voting from the start of the show, which always gave the 1st person they would interview an advantage.

Hope it's not Ennis. Her achievements aren't on par with Wiggins, Murray or Farah. If she wasn't hot, she wouldn't even be considered.

I disagree with that, Heptathlon/Decathlon Olympic gold should always be considered. But I agree that her achievements are not as great as Wiggins, Murray or Farah. I think the overexposure will count against Ennis.

Bookmakers got Jessica Ennis as favourite , so no need to tune in then.

Bradley Wiggins won a gold medal and was the first Brit to ever win the Tour de France possibly one of the most gruelling achievements in any sport.

He also has a personality if that still counts for anything.

Spot on. I still can't understand how that knob Cavendish won last year

Mo should win after two track gold medals.

He won't get the votes this year;in sperate years, Murray,McIlroy,Farah would all walk it but in a vintage year for British sport Wiggins does stand out for 2 huge achievements in quick succession

Farah has been going round 'campaigning' for the award. That turns me right off. Wiggins has kept his dignity and has not gone on the celebrity trail at all.
