Sports Personality of the Year 2012

I think it'll be Mo Farah now given the Tour's relatively obscure reputation in the UK ... still I'd probably have to vote Mo. In our Games he pulls out two golds which we've never won? Breathtaking.

What about Chris Hoy? He became GB's most succesful ever Olympian! Certainly in with a shout.

I'm torn between Wiggins and Farah... both have achieved extraordinary feats.

Very tough competition this year (to say the least), but it has to be Mo, he got me jumping out of my seat twice, no other British sportsman/women has this year. Well ok that last part is a lie, Jay spearing had me jumping out of my seat with fear when I turned over the TV and he was on, but I think Mo edges him.

Fair fecks to Wiggins. First ever Brit to win the Tour De France, an incredible achievement, but then he backed it up by winning the Olympic Gold

But it has to be Mo Farah, the 10k and 5k double is incredible, but what's more he beat The Cube, the only man to do so, so has to be him for me

Tough call between Mo and Wiggo, but I think Ennis might swing it - she'll get the women's vote.

Farah and Wiggins both also seem like they have a personality which is also makes it tough and Ennis is a nice girl despite seeming robotic at times.

Between the three of them although we're ignoring the likes of Chris Hoy who is now the most successful British olympian of all time.

Coin toss between Wiggins and Mo for me. I'd probably go for Mo as running is better than cycling.

Yeah but having a personality hasn't ever meant anything in the past.

I know but that's why I mentioned it. Even though I criticised Ennis just now she has more of a personality than most past winners.

Isn't it nice to have lots of candidate who richly deserve to win it. Also that it is difficult to pick a winner. Usually it is an obvious choice.

Yes but it's Sports Personality of the Year rather than an achievement spread out over multiple Olympics - Sir Chris is brilliant but I think individually, Mo and Bradley are the two outstanding candidates this year.

Mo Farah for me 100%. Athletics is just another world to Sailing and Cycling.

Honestly it makes a mockery of the system. They should pick the best availible candidate who hasn't won it over the last 4 years.. or something.

Zara Phillips. Ryan Giggs. David Beckham. Don't really agree with Tony McCoy either.

I know its public vote before someone says anything

Zara Phillips winning it was a complete low point in the awards history.

Only in terms of popularity ... what winning the Tour De France involves is ridiculously tough. The only thing I guess is that Wiggins had the help of his team, but he also put in some spectacular individual performances to finish way ahead of the pack. And a gold medal to top it off.

Whatever happens, it'll be a massive celebration of British sport. Can't wait.

Think you mentioned it the other day but I'm looking forward to the BBC doing some sort of wrap up show of the events of the past two weeks. Will be brilliant.

True, certainly Cycling and Tennis would be two of the hardest sports for me. But Athletics comes around once every 4 years, and a great British winner even less.

World Championships? European, Commonwealth? :smirk:

But I get what you mean. One thing I wouldn't like to see now is Tom Daley be nominated ... nice lad and has recovered so well from the death of his father but I can see him sweeping up the teenage girl votes, totting up their parents' phone bill by spamming the phonelines.

Every year in Wales, we end up with a choice between Ryan Giggs and Craig Bellamy for our Sports Personality of the Year. Sometimes they announce the nominations in reverse alphabetical order just to make it interesting.

Hey we had Chaz Davies win it last year.

Yes, I hear he won by 3 votes to 2, mate. :D

I'm not british but for me it's easily Mohamed Farah.Winning both 5000m and 10000m gold medals in the space of a week is astonishing
