Spooks

looking forward to it. Best British drama series out at the moment.

Excellent series - done well to keep the quality so high going into its 6th season.

I get the impression I might like this under different circumstances, but I just find it difficult to swallow some of the plot devices, sensationalism and cod moralising. I know that it's technically a work of fiction but a little bit more of real world flavour wouldn't go amiss.

I think Spooks is brilliant. OK it is sensationalist, but it is a television program. Who wants to watch an hour of number crunching and endless sifting through data and meetings which is probably what the majority of spook work really is.

What I like about it is, compared to something like 24, it doesnt paint the world as all black and white moral choices - good versus evil / US vs terrorists etc, which is a ridiculous simplification and quite patronising. I think it portrays the fact Western governments are just as dangerous as "evil" states well, as well as showing the human face of the extremists.

Nice start, looks as though it could get even better next week. (I did watch number 2 on beeb3).

Also notice the cameo from Martin from Game On.. Will he have time to make Matt his tea, before he coughs up blood?

I watched this show as well and have been since it first started off...

The cnuts left it as a 'to be continued' and I totally forgot about it being on bbc3 afterwards...

I's actually quite interesting, not bad for a BBC show, another decent one was The Hustle.

Episode 3 was another good one...and next weeks looks like it's of the same standard.

Well worth a watch.

Oh no, I missed it. I totally forgot and the fact that United were playing.

fecking excellent so far….have even had to move onto the next episode that they show on BBC3 the same night

you should watch the first season, twas excellent
I put a thread on here a while back because I was given the box set in some corporate party gift box thingy, and I wondered if it was worth watching. Almost everyone told me not to bother.

Should I?

No harm in giving it a go Bilbo....IMO it is one of the better series we have on UK TV.

Jeez the first series that seems so long ago... It had a few different characters in it didn't it? Think the main guy was called Tom back then. I liked the older characters a little more but quite a few characters have come and gone since the start haven't they... I think the only one left is Harry.

When it came out it was by far one of the better BBC programs and it still is really.

OMG - another cracking episode....shows we can actually make good TV.

Thanks goodness there isn't a torrent available for the new episode otherwise I would have to be disgusted all over again.

I only watched the first episode and not the second on BBC3 (remember no spoilers lads!)

Its a good show and it shows its the idea and story behind it as the characters are changing all the time. I do think it used to be a bit better though.

My disgust is diminishing because I can't see a torrent for either episode yet.

Phew! Thank goodness for that.

Spooks is basically feel good television.

A bit like Rambo is feel good movies for Americans. Never mind the history that USA lost in Vietnam......in Rambo movies they get to win this time. Without bleeding heart liberals, Jane Fonda, media, hippies and Democrats.
A whole alternative comforting narrative is served up.

Spooks effectively does the same thing. When I switched on TV, multi ethnic, diverse, poster boys and girls for MI5 were wearing poppies and trying to prevent a big disaster on Remembrance Sunday. I did not actually see the end but I am guessing that the multi ethnic diverse poster boys and girls for MI5 succeeded and Middle England all drank up their Ovaltine and went to bed happy.

Chances are that statistically one or two folks on the Message Board are "spooks". I cant believe the TV show is accurate. Certainly if you see the "spooks" coming out of that big building in London and lining up for their moccha lattes or cappucchinos and croissants and paninis in local coffee bars....they dont seem nearly as exciting as they are on TV.

Is there anything at all that you do approve of?

It's almost as if people want to be entertained? Who would have thought?

Or perhaps they don't want to watch hour long episodes of people sitting at their desk, gossiping, going to lunch, going to the toilet and writing memos etc.

I suspect the majority of people realise that it is fiction. You must hate novels as well.

Episode 2 is on tonight at 9, with episode 3 on BBC3 later.

PS. iPlayer is great.

Bugger.

Why is it that people can't see an existing thread on the front page and yet manage to drag up threads from ages ago?

I'm going to ban someone to make me feel better ;)

I love this show but why the hell do they kill off/write off soo many of the main characters? As soon as the viewer builds a bond with a character; they are gone!:(

That is a certain part of it's allure though, no-one is sacred and anyone could be the next to go. It does make things a touch more exciting when characters are in dangerous situations and may not come out alive. That doesn't happen often in TV shows, and detracts from the tension.
