South Korean President declares martial law, accuses opposition | Martial law lifted

Is it required that the assembly meets in this exact building ? I'd imagine they can meet in the opera house or a theatre and still vote to impeach him.
 
I imagine this is a tense moment for koreans given their relatively recent transition to a democracy from military rule (late 80s).

Things like the gwanju uprising still seem somewhat fresh in terms of what can happen under military rule. Let's hope nothing like that occurs here.
 
It was all a big misunderstanding. They were watching old United games and were commenting on how our French youngster wasn't the finished article yet. The President said "Martial, raw" and everything went to shit.

I've been in an Asian country during a coupe that was followed by martial law. It was terrible and I wouldn't wish that experience upon anyone. You couldn't buy booze after 2pm and shops were only open within a small window so you had to get your affairs in order early in the day and preferably ahead of time because of traveling.

I'm sure that's a fecking scary situation, but this being the first downside that you go with is pretty great.
 
A military coup may not play out as well as the leadership think in a country where the majority of the adult male population have military training.
 
The thread title should be changed to "President of South Korea unexpectedly...". The current title implies more legitimacy than we're seeing, and makes it seem at a glance that it might have more to do with North Korea than what seems like an attempted coup.

Yeah maybe change the title of the thread to something like "SHOCK as shops stop selling booze at 2pm in South Korea"
 
This was not sudden. This was definetely pre-planned and people knew about it.

I was in Qatar last week, and was supposed to meet up with some of the South Korean military officials in Seoul for some consulting work, but even our meeting in Qatar was a bit weird. When we landed in Seoul, I was there for a total of 8 hours before they asked me to leave citing some pressing issues that they have to deal with and that I shouldn't be in the country.

They spoke to my employer, and then my employer flew me to Bangkok to be on "Stand-by" and they've been paying for me to piss around in Thailand with some colleagues until we can re-enter SK. :lol:
 
Reports of military leaving. You would think the president had expected for martial law to be voted down. If he makes no other move this looks like a bizarre spur of the moment thing.

Military 100% knew of something coming in the works.

All my usual partners from ROKAF have been acting bizarre and we basically got kicked out of the country despite our planned work partnership had been planned well in advance.
