Solskjaer's legacy and his future

I don't know what he's done in the time he's been here other then rely on individual brilliance of Bruno and other players at times to get him out of trouble. This is not a team, this is just 11 individuals on a pitch.

Yeah probably the worst given what he's spent. Moyes had someone else's team and barely any money, this is a disaster of a season and it's all on Ole as its his team and his choices.

Nothing will ever change how much I loved him as a player, but he's an utter shambles as a manager and needs to be put out of his misery. I still hated Mourinho more though, the awful twat.

I don't really care about what he spent because he also sold like 40 players during his time here.

Helped us improve our squad level and we have squads that for the first time looks closer to that of PSG, City or Chelsea, but that's all he can do here.

More a DOF than a good manager.

Thanks Ole. No hate towards you but leave with you head held high (maybe not today) - you did help United.

His legacy is losing 6-1 to Spurs, 4-0 to Everton, 5-0 to Liverpool at home.

Losing semi finals to average teams. Losing the Europa League final to an average side.

Not making changes fast enough. Constantly using the same players even when we are getting hammered. Playing his favourites even when they’re injured. Has the first 11 changed that much whilst we are on a poor run? It’s literally swap Pogba for McTominay. No formation change at all.

The only good he did was not causing a fuss like Mourinho. I said weeks ago he needs to be sacked before we get truly embarrassed. Well that’s now happened.

I feel like he was given the job due to being a former player of the club, not due to managerial talent... I hope im wrong and he was picked after the board did some scouting on him.

Made us harder to beat like today?

He's done nothing is his time here other than not be toxic.
Harder to beat in that we started winning games again. Against tough opposition and in general. We rode our luck at times and made a lot of comebacks. That in itself is probably unacceptable but at least we won the majority of games in that time

He has never been a toxic manager. It would be completely rewriting history to suggest so. It's clear that the players have performed for him. We've been in other runs of bad performances and form for him and his predecessors. But the major difference has been that the players downed tools on Moyes, LVG and Mourinho. They didn't for Solksjaer until now, I think. His lack of ability to coach them is what has finally led to this. Not any sort of toxicity.

It's ruined as of this day. If they sacked him back in May, I think there would be some solid clubs after him, as he had done an okay job until then. It's been a disaster last few months though.

Good player, but as manager, he is much worst than Moyes. And I never thought we would have someone much worst than Moyes to manage us.

I really thought he would win this game. It had really become his modus operandi to come out with a shocking upset when he gets under real pressure, but you can't make a career out of that and at some point the cows have to come home.

He steadied the ship 5 games in. Since then he’s been preventing this club and these group of players kicking on under proper manager

Giving time and money involved, he is the worst United manager ever. People like to say Moyes but Moyes is space shuttle for Ole

Should have pulled the eject lever after the EL Final with credibility intact. Did okay to decent up until then. Overachieved even.

A caretaker who won the lottery and achieved above expectations for a while.
He achieved above expectations for about three months at the start. Ever since then he's been just about on par at best.

You misread what I posted. I said he isnt toxic.

He wasn’t even qualified enough to manage a bottom half side pre United. What makes you think he was chosen for any reason but being a legendary player?

We’ll have plenty of time to assess Ole’s legacy. Right now, there’s too much pain in the air to make a proper, objective assessment.

The guy can recruit, but he can't imo motivate the higher profile players. If he's got anything about himself he should go. Because every UTD fan could see this result coming .

Might not feel this way because of the humiliating result, but Moyes was way worse, let's never forget that

Mourinho can burn in hell forever, clearly didn't care one bit about the club and genuinely had us hated at a world wide scale despite getting relatively good results and achievements.

Ole's just like Van Gaal for me, both had good and positive intentions, got some fundamental things right, but just weren't able to be good enough to take us to a level where we need to be based on the resources we (or they) had.

Apologies, I did misread what you posted.

But the lack of toxicity is something to be spoken for as well when you consider the three before him all fell out with the players. Solksjaer got out of their way mostly and let them do their thing. Unfortunately that only gets you so far. The higher up you go you face sides with players as good as yours, but with managers and coaching significantly better than what we have.

Not going to solely blame him for that in fairness, you can't offload that utter dross with the wages they demand.
They both signed new contracts under him. So did Pereira, Mata and Grant, none of whom will ever play more than 5-10 games a season for us any more. New contracts to Lingard and Matic are also questionable but at least you could argue they can be useful squad players.

The Ole's good squad building is a myth, he signed many good players that were no-brainers to identity, but the squad is still very bloated and has quite a few players at their peak or past it as well as handsomely paid benchwarmers like Martial. I am completely sure a new manager would be reshuffling the squad a lot. And this not even mentioning the midfield situation.

It is not like Ole signed many young players for the first team who are looking to be a dead cert mainstays for next decade. That would have been good squad building in my book.

His legacy could be that his sacking signalled the end of the shadow of Fergie and all his minions hanging over the club and influencing decisions

He will never get another PL job. His only PL achievement is getting Cardiff relegated. He is on over his head and is ust a cheer leader it seems. We seem to have no tactics or nuances to our games

Nothing. A club legend he will remain. I will also look at his legacy as only the manager as decent. He cleaned the club up well, build a good, yet still a little lacking squad. But he can't do more, that is clear. He doesn't have that in him. Nothing you can fault a man for. Stop being so childish, i beg you all.

Unfortunately this. He's got so many basics wrong, so many flaws that only results would have made any difference. Now he's not even getting those.

We are on course for a 59 point season, which is worse than Moyes. Goal difference, we are on course for a +4. It could also be argued that the next 10 matches are gonna be harder than these 9 we had.

For comparison, we finished with 64 points and a +21 with Moyes. We got trashed by Liverpool (and City) at home, but not this much trashed.

I hated Moyes, I really did. But this is worse than anything we had under Moyes. Especially when you consider the money Ole spent.

Don't do this now. Seriously.

Give it a rest. There's enough threads on this forum to vent.

If that's what the board wants, i'm sure a Scholes or a Giggs will get the job next... there are many legendary players for them to choose... actually, it's a pretty good tactic by them.

They can always say the legend needs more time because he was a player, not a manager...

Legacy?

PROS
Finishing Top5-6 in an incredibly toxic and volatile season (after Mou's autumn of 2018). Some good memories of the "Honeymoon weeks".
Finishing 3rd and 2nd, only behind the monsters Pep and Klopp.

CONS
Nothing football. Only with Bruno a semi-functional 4-2-3-1 was created.
Several beatings; the most intolerable one, today.
Toothless/fragile in the UCL.
Unable to win a FA Cup (unlike Louis).
The ridicule of the EL final of 2021. (unlike Mou).

CONCLUSION: not as toxic as Mou, but just as frustrating as Moyes.

So he will not resign.

He is 100% dead for me!!!

I felt 1% sorry for him at full-time.

His post-match interview is a disgrace.

He only cares about his contract......yes you Solskjaer fans.....he doesn't care about the club.

His legacy is crumbling, as Wan Bissaka and Maguire are no longer looking like the brilliant signings they initially seemed and Bruno's form has disappeared off a cliff with Donny and Sancho nowhere to be seen. Squad building was supposed to be what he was good at.
