Soldado | Deal to Spurs agreed subject to medical (p2)

Really good signing for them. Its about time they got a good striker in. Paid a premium but that's to be expected when your in desperate need of a certain type of player.

In the last few years I've seen him play 6 or 7 times (against United as well) and he was terrible. A real tryer but not a natural goal scorer.
Hope he does well there. Spurs have put together a pretty good unit there and will have an interesting season for sure.

He's tight obviously. We should offer to buy Bale for £100 million at £2 million a year, see how he likes it

If they'd bought him last year they'd be in the Champions League now and the transfer would have paid for itself.

Good player who should be a huge boost to Spurs considering their striker options.

I rate him to be honest. How much did City buy Negredo for? I think Spurs got the far better player.

£25 million I think. I think Spurs have got the better player. However Negredo looked good in City's match against south china, I knows it's hardly stellar opposition but he looked excellent technically. Played an absolutely beautiful outside the foot pass.

Is this the point when Soldado becomes significantly better value than van Persie for Glaston?

He's worth the money. The concerning thing for Valencia is they were already short of proper strikers and relied too much on Soldado. With Levy trying to make the payments in smaller installments Valencia will probably find it hard to replace him and also bring in the other striker they already needed

They've overpaid but he's a quality striker. Should do great in England.

Spurs will do well to get him. Players like Soldado and BAE are what Spurs should go for. That and cheap/unknown/young players since they'll never get truly excellent players at their peak playing for them.
Who is bae?

He already is better than Rooney and Van Persie, signing for Spurs and that sexy bastard Daniel Levy makes every player better.

He's the type of player they should go for? Strange benchmark to set. Soldado is a much better anyway. Odd to bracket them.

Maybe he means they want a player who hates football and only does it for a job? There was an interview with Assou Ekotto where he said he had never heard of Paulinho before Spurs signed him.

Just seen his youtube video and he looks like a Berbatov type of striker. Would that be a fair assessment?

I think from what I've seen he's much more physically imposing and less technical than berbatov. Looks a proper centre forward.

He does have a touch of the Berbatov's in his technical style. His volleys in particular are similarly impressive. He can have a nice first touch but I think Berbatov's is better. But Soldado is a proper goalscorer, whereas Berbatov creates more and even said he feels like he can play in midfield. Soldado obviously could not. He's a straight up striker. Soldado is also quick which is the opposite of Berbatov

Yup I meant that actually, the way he volleys and finishes some of the goal is similar to Berba's style.
He's 28 and quite expensive which doesn't fit Levy's usual transfer strategy but looks like he'll be a big upgrade to Defoe and Adebayor.

I agree this one is out of the box for Spurs for sure. Usually they sign clearly good prospects and sell them off for a profit after a period where Levy has been too stubborn to let them leave :D With Soldado he'll be there till his 30s and they wont get the money back. But I think this tells you two things, 1) Spurs have got sick of trying to lowball to find a striker with the likes of Damiao they never manged to sign, ending up with poor options up front like Adebayor and 2) Spurs have done their homework and know Soldado is worth the money

Soldado's more mobile and better at running the channels.

La liga is going to be even more weaker next year. 4 of the best players outside the top 2 have left, and the big 2 are even stronger. Falcao, Negredo, Soldado and Navas gone. Madrid have signed Isco and Illaramendi from other Spanish sides too.

What's the reason this lad doesn't get a look in with Spain? They're an exceptional side, obviously, but they're not great up front as highlighted by the fact Torres still gets plenty of minutes.

I think he has only just become good enough really, Villa and Torres were always the main men and they only play with 1 strikers usually. Then the coach preferred midfielders over strikers to retain possession, he has just been unlucky like that really.

In the confeds though he was the go too striker. If he keeps firing well in England he may well get more of a chance.

The situation is getting farcical now if it hadn't already earlier.

Same disappointing story every year. Can you imagine how formidable Valencia would be if they still had Villa, Silva, Mata, Alba and Soldado? Short-term it's all fun and games with Neymar and Bale joining the rest of the superstars, long-term it's a bust flush and the product will wither.

He has a quality first touch under pressure but aside from that he's different to Berbatov, much more of a typical centre-forward, with excellent hold up play keeps it very simple and good movement in the box. Don't think he's top tier brilliant but he's better than their current options, will be well suited to the physical demands of the english game and is capable of scoring ugly goals and also capable of some very clever finishing.

Yay .... we signed another striker at long last.

He's not as high profile as Torres. Thats it

They're about pull the rip off of the century on Madrid, doubt they care about paying at most an extra 5m.

If they sell Bale for £90m and buy and buy Soldado for £26m, then that means Soldado really cost -£64m.

Scousernomics

Good signing. A tad over priced though.

Doubt it. I'll go ahead and say I fully expect Soldado to be Spurs best striker of the decade. After a settling in period, which he may need - some do, some dont. I expect him to be better than Berbatov was at Spurs, which was good enough for us to make him our record signing. He's not the same type of player though, he's an out and out striker
