The Madrid press think he may be on his way to Spurs, Valencia looking for 30m Euros and Spurs offering 24m (about 20m UKP).

They say Baldini is in Spain negotiating - though given Valencia said last week anyone who wanted Soldado would have to pay his clause you wonder what there could possibly be for them to talk about.

Seen rumour of Liverpool alleged interest also, not sure whether it's true.

Would be a good to see him in the PL. A tidy player. I'd say he's exactly what Spurs need up front - a good finisher.

I don't think he's good enough really. Think Spurs could've aimed a bit higher.

Not a top tier striker but a better option than Damiao in my view. He can easily come in and bag a bunch of goals straight away and he'll keep them playing good football. Selfless enough to work well alongside Bale too.

Who is available that's higher than him? There really is not a huge amount of options for top strikers these days. I think Soldado would be a good acquisition. Less risky than Damiao as well anyway.

£22m on a 29 year old striker who isn't even top tier?

He was 27 until two months ago. According to wiki he's scored 29 goals in 60 league appearances for Valencia and has 6 goals in 11 appearances for Spain .... that's a very good strike rate.

Probably the most attainable striker for a club like Spurs. Decent enough strike rate.

They have to pay a bit of a premium to get a 25 goal striker though.

Not far off Higuain's level imo.

Top class striker. Will do well in the PL.

Better than Higuain imo, although a little older. Spurs should pay his £24 million release clause, its a good deal

He is every bit as good as Higuain and has performed better in the last year or two. Given that Ibrahimovic, Cavani and Rooney were outside of Spurs' reach, Soldado is as good as they can realistically expect. Not a typical Premiership centre-forward insofar as he does not possess exceptional strength or pace, but he's a strong finisher and technician.

He's quality and would bag 20 goals at least for Spurs. They can't go for the very top bracket but Soldado is in the bracket down from that. Excellent signing if it comes off. They've been after a top quality striker ever since Berba left.

He's fast

Yeah he's not slow by any means but I wouldn't say he's exceptionally (i.e. young Torres/Owen/Robben) quick.

Lot of money for a player of that age, but he's excellent.

Spurs will balk at the price tag and miss out, even though they are desperately in need of a proper striker and Soldado certainly fits the bill.

If they are willing to spend that kind of money they should go for Benteke instead. If Spurs are looking for cheaper options which they probably are, I'd suggest Oscar Cardozo whose move to Fenerbahce has collapsed. He might be older but his scoring record is comparable to Soldado's.

Benteke just signed a new contract with Villa.

That's his scoring record for Getafe. For Valencia it's better: 59 goals in 101 games in the league (81 in 141 overall).

I am not his biggest fan, and I read some Valencia fans wanted to get rid of him last season because according to them, he was bellow average for most part of the season last year(which is weird because he scored lot of goals last season).
I like his character and attitude on the pitch though.

He would improve Spurs, but I don't think he will improve them more than any other decent striker would, and 30m euros is easily too much for him.

He goes through some patches where he struggles to score, but he still manages to get 25 goals a season.

I think that he's a very good player and certainly better than Negredo. It will be a good buy for Spurs and it will make them favorites for that fourth place (unlike Arsenal makes some good signings) but still he's 29 years old so the price is higher than it should. But if this is the difference between them going to UCL or not then it's a no brainier, they should sign him.

As I said before, he's only recently turned 28.

He's a good striker, it's about time Spurs signed someone better than Adebayor and Defoe instead of being consistently skint. £24m is a lot of money though and I'm not sure Levy would approve such price so there's a good chance they're going to miss out.

"Tottenham have reached an agreement with Valencia for the transfer of striker Roberto Soldado, according to reports in Spain.
Spurs are believed to have matched the Spanish forward's release clause of 30 million euros after it emerged that Liverpool were set to join the chase.
The fee will however be paid in a series of installments and all that is now to be finalised is the player's medical and personal terms.
Neither are expected to be a problem however and the Spanish media report Soldado could be unveiled as a Tottenham player early next week."

Spurs will do well to get him. Players like Soldado and BAE are what Spurs should go for. That and cheap/unknown/young players since they'll never get truly excellent players at their peak playing for them.

Good signing for Spurs, would have been stupid to miss out on over a few million. Much better than anything they currently have up top
