You just know he's going to turn into prime Modric and Casemiro rolled into one if he signs for them

I think teams should be very cautious signing players because of a good world cup... except Liverpool, I hope they sign the next El Hadji Diouf and Salif Diao
Both Diao and Diouf were signed before the world cup

Turns out Diao was just before, but Diouf was during.

Although if I was a liverpool fan I would go with the story it was based on the world cup, better then admitting your club scouted those players for a length of time, thought about it, and then consciously chose to sign them.

Diouf had already been announced by the time of Senegals first game.

Technically he had a lot going for him. Good intensity too. Definitely failed the good lad test though. And end product though I think he'd have got there with the right mentality that he didn't have.

Diao was alright for a bit. Then turned proper shit. Like the opposite of needing time to adapt and settle.

You're wrong, and I am not going to spend anymore time arguing with you.

Potential back up Casemiro?

“Manchester United transfer target Sofyan Amrabat could be granted permission to leave Fiorentina in the summer.

“The midfielder's agent has revealed that the Italian club is open to the idea of letting him go, but only if a suitable offer is received.

“Mohamed Sinouh told Kora Plus: ‘For now we don't have any offer for the summer, but now at least Fiorentina is willing to listen.

“‘A promise they made when the president rejected all the offers in the winter.

"’We received many offers during the January transfer window, including one from Manchester United, but an agreement cannot be reached.’

“The Red Devils made Amrabat a top transfer target ahead of the January window.”

Given we had no money be interested to see what ‘the offer’ was

A swap for Fred with us throwing in 10M would make sense. They get a box to box type and can buy a new DM, we get a backup for Casemiro, buy a young #8 to backup and then overtake Eriksen, sell McTominay and keep Sabitzer. 6 guys for 3 spots. Mainoo is incredibly young, so being 7th man and some cup and U-21 minutes is fine for another year, then going on loan to play a full season as a starter. Iqbal and Mejbri need to star on loan somewhere like Amad before they get a real shot.

Seeing us and Barcelona linked with him.

This is what I mean about buying smart. I've been raving about this guy for years, but we're now making a move for him after an impressive world cup which means he'll cost double than what he would have because, prior to that, Fiorentina were not utilising him anywhere near as good as Juric did at Verona.

Same with Lobotka. Could have got both him and Amrabat for less than Casemiro but both will cost double now because, as well as Amrabat's impressive world cup showing, Lobotka was an outcast at Napoli before they got in a manager who realised how good he was, and has since gone on to be the best midfielder in league, playing a pivotal role as the metronome in Napolis title winning side.

There are so many of these players out there we could get for relatively cheap.

He worked with Haggy at Twente. Classic. The Eredivisie seal of approval strikes again

While true, he is also very good, so it's a win win. Tune it to the conference final to see what he's about.

He has one year left on his contract, so we should get him cheaper.

Hopefully! I think he'd be a great signing. I watched pretty much every Verona game the season he was there and he instantly reminded me of Spurs' Dembele.

He's not been as good at Fiorentina but I think there's two reasons for that. First, I don't think the managers there have shown complete trust in his abilities unlike Juric at Verona who was that good for him, Amrabat personally appreciated him. Second, his partnership with Veloso was much more balanced than anyone he's partnered with at Fiorentina.

It's a shame it took a good world cup to get on the top clubs radar when his showings at club level were even more impressive, but better late than never. This is exactly the type of player we need. Strong, press resistant, can dribble, etc.

I mentioned Amrabat and Lobotka, but Sergi Darder falls into that category, too. One of the best midfielders in Spain who, unlike Amrabat and Lobotka now, could still go for cheap as he's not done anything that would be perceived as "big" like them. Seems like Atletico want him but so should we. He's singlehandedly dominated/competed with Madrid and Barcas midfield countless times.

Didn't we try bringing in January?

I thought he looked good in WC in games I watched. Looked good in possession of the ball.

So him and Mount be good summer for midfield options?

If this is the case, why did we not get him sooner? ten Hag obviously know him very well. Amrabat agent have been pushing him around for awhile. Heavily linked to Liverpool too for a few months ago.

Haven't seen much of him but if he's any way comparable to Dembele, then we need to sign him up pronto.

I do think they have the same strengths and weaknesses. Like Dembele, Amrabat is strong, press resistant, can dribble through a midfield, works hard, but, as far as his main weakness, his passing range is limited like Dembele's was. They prefer to advance the ball from deep through their ability to carry the ball rather than through their passing.

I'm fine with this, though, because his strengths are what we're seriously lacking, and he can still play line breaking passes.

His agent and Romano trying to get him a big move. Seems all Jonathan David-ish.

He really wants to join Barca. If they get the funds together he’ll go there.

One of the more obvious examples of dropping United's name into the discourse to get negotiations moving between the real clubs involved. No way are we in for this guy. Good player though, he's a warrior.

Probably because we aren’t in for him. Just the agent trying to push a move.

Thought there were pretty strong rumours we went for him in Jan? Also another ten hag known quantity, I think it's a bit more than that.

Too wise of a move for us, would be good depth to the midfield on thr cheap when casimero is once again targeted by english refs next season but we are more serious about spunking 50+ million on mount with just 1 year left on his contract

One is an attacking midfielder and the other is a defensive midfielder, so we'd potentially be getting both.

Common sense and would be wise given Casemiro's age and our over reliance on him.

January 2023 not a lot of clubs were willing to sell their better players. This year was unique in that.
United can always come up with the money if the need arises. Just like how we got the money for Casemiro when there was supposedly none.

I like his profile for a defensive midfielder better than Caicedo or Lavia. I’m not against signing those guys but they will need a good few years to develop into a defensive midfielder for a club that wants to get to where we wanna be. As of now they will be good enough to partner Casemiro but not play his role, whilst Amrabat can do both right now.
