Sofyan Amrabat | signs for United on loan

Jeez he's only 26.
We've got casemiro now but I don't you could go wrong by taking a punt on the lad.

He's been great for Fiorentina this season after being a disappointment last season...interesting player, really strong defensively, very good under pressure, great dribbler, good passer. A prototypical modern midfield pivot. Not sure he's good enough for top clubs and as for United, fit with Case would be awkward - kinda redundant to have both

Not sure whether we need him now but not a bad option as a squad/competition player. Would have taken him before we ended up with Eriksen/Case.

Never judge a player on a world cup. (He has had a fantastic tournament, really good, and I know he has a good reputation outside of that... but who knows whether he can be consistently top level)

What do his stats for Fiorentina look like then?
If we were in a healthier financial situation I wouldn't be opposed to signing another DM. You need quality backup. Though right now we have bigger gaps to fill and little money to do so.

He has been good at the club level too. Spurs has been interested for some time now.

Amrabat has been great but also kinda screams of a typical World Cup signing that Premiership teams make after major tournaments (hello Salif Diao). He might be a great fit in the specific tactical and regimental style of his country but could struggle in the quicker club game. I think I’d actually prefer if we signed his younger midfield partner Azzedine Ounahi who looks like a real up and coming talent.

Ounahi looks the more likely to make it at prem league level...

I had a dream last night that Amrabat gets a red card tonight :nervous:

Yeah but you just kinda backed up my point.

I think Conte wanted to take him to Inter before he quit as well, don't think he's anything special by any means but looks like someone who would help out a top side immensely in a back up role.

I'd be afraid of it being another Kleberson type signing, looked the part in a world cup and was absolutely useless afterwards.

If its for less than £30mill, that's like the 10-15mill of 10 to 12 years ago anyway. So it wouldn't be a big deal if it flame went out.

Having a very good World Cup more than holding his own in the middle of the park against some of the very best.

Box to box midfielder with a good engine, combative style of play and the ability to carry the ball progressively.

He’s 26 years old and currently playing for Fiorentina but following his performances is being linked with a move to the PL after the tournament. Liverpool and Arsenal named as front runners for a few of £26m.

Conte and Spurs were close to signing him a year ago but it never materialised.

What’s does the Caf think?
I think teams should be very cautious signing players because of a good world cup... except Liverpool, I hope they sign the next El Hadji Diouf and Salif Diao

I don't understand this logic, why wouldn't Ounahi not struggle then? In my opinion, I'd be very cautious with both, but Amrabats skills would more likely translate to club football than Ounahi.

Has been absolutely brilliant in this world cup. That incredible tackle on M'bappe just sums him up.

He's exactly what Arsenal need as cover for Partey, who is great but often hurt.

The oldest rule in the book, never sign a player off a World Cup.

I remember when Greece won the Euros - I was so impressed with how solid they were defensively and thought there would be a few that would step up - I recall a few getting moves but none of them reached their Euro performances.

That said, this Morocco side is much better to watch - but still as many have mentioned, a good tournament may often lead to bad signings

Both Ounahi and Amrabat should get PL moves. Someone that looks as good as they did in the World Cup deserve a chance to show if they can replicate it in club football. Ambrabat is more suited to PL footy, it must be said.

My thoughts exactly watching him. If I wanted to take a punt from that team for United, I'd go for Ounahi personally.

I’m sure it wasn’t the intention, but this comes across as slightly condescending. They play in Serie A and Ligue 1, not some backwater.

It may be the case they both end up in the PL, but “making it” in the PL shouldn’t be considered the only metric to measure success.

This world cup's James.

He was fecked off by Feyenoord, because he wasn't good enough. Silly us

One of the players of the tournament for me. Was brilliant in every game, positional discipline, organising everyone around him and good on the ball.

Ounahi plays for the 20th place team in La Liga. A move to even the last placed team in the PL will still be a step up. Amrabat plays for Fiorentina, so I'll take your critique more for him. But salary wise he'll be well within range for most of the PL clubs.

Gives me Moussa Dembele regen energy

I like him. Incredible at winning the ball back; Kante-esque. But I thought his passing was very hit and miss yesterday.

We won't be a bad option either. Huge upgrade over Scott

Yeah, that's true. I wrote the other day that we need 2 midfielders really, a #8 and a #6, so selling Fred to say a Serie A team for 10M and McTominay to a Prem team for 15M and buying Amrabat for 25 and then purchasing the dribbling/passing #8 we need like De Jong, Enzo or Mac Allister would sort the midfield out proper.

I would go for Caicedo as the cheaper DM and Enzo in front of him. They would have a clear path to the first team, with Casemiro and Eriksen approaching the end of their careers.

I don't think Caicedo is cheap anymore. Cucarella was 60M pounds and he's younger and at a more sought after position. So I think they'd want 70M. Amrabat might be 25M.

Enzo looks great. That one makes a ton of sense, even if it costs 70M.

Caicedo and Enzo would be some wet dream of a midfield combo!

Would avoid getting sucked in to any world cup hype players who aren't at the very beginning of their careers. All international footballers have the ability to perform highly over a 7/8 game period. Huge kudos for doing it at the biggest stage, but would need to see more at a domestic level over a longer period. We'll probably fork out 70m for him in Jan now.

I think he's the kind of player you'd see at the likes of West Ham, great at putting in the hard work but I'm not sure he will play at the very top clubs.

Definitely deserves a move to the prem, could even work at a club like Atleti since they want players with an engine.

Wouldn't say he should be at United or Liverpool or one of those clubs though.
