I mean, if you really want to sell you typically do that by lowering the price until you find a buyer. We haven’t been willing to do that. We held out for £45m for Scott McTominay. So it sounds like upgrading on him is not a priority.
True. It’s just maddening.

I don't understand FFP. Chelsea spend silly money. And continue to spend silly money.

Four obvious points spring to mind.

First, Chelsea generate a lot of money from selling players brought through their academy. The way FFP and amoritization works is that for accounting purposes you can spread the cost of the incoming signings over multiple years so you can spend up to 5 times what you make. That is a very simplistic take but essentially it works that way although at some point you will have to stop spending because of all the amoritized fees you are carrying.

Second, owners can inject capital into the club to help balance the books and Clearlake have done this. The Glazers on the other hand have never put one penny into Manchester United and never will.

Third, Chelsea had transfer losses of over 1 billion which were transferred to a holding company owned by Roman who then kindly forgave the lot when selling the club so the new owners inherited a team that was completely debt free, we are hamstrung by colossal debts that have cost us over 1 billion in interest payments.

Fourth and final, according to the likes of Simon Jordan Chelsea actually don't give a flying frak about FFP and have already budgeted for the inevitable fines which they will consider money well spent if it tilts competitive balance in their favour.

I wonder if we’ll come back in with an actual bid or move on to someone else. We’ve heard all summer he’s seemingly available for around £25m which we could surely stretch to after selling Henderson.

Tap in merchant at it again

But poor amrabat. Sat there for weeks fecking waiting for our incompetent management to make a move.

Now all sorts of expectations heaped on him to somehow be the lone saviour of our entire tactical setup.

No pressure then.
That’s just not true. Only deluded people are even dreaming that he is a saviour. Most of us (even those who have been very keen that we get this guy) realise very well that he is not an automatic improvement to the starting XI when selected.

The point of signing him is that he is an automatic improvement to the squad, offers a different skillset for rotation, off the bench etc, and has a tough, competitive personality which will be good for everyone.

He is not an individual saviour but by adding his qualities and the competition he will provide (to Casemiro in particular), he will make a significant difference to how the squad is able to perform over a long period.

I haven’t seen anyone seriously claiming he will do any more than that.

We’ll get this done surely now it’s so publicly out there.

let’s hope we are, hate to say it but if we can get him on loan with an obligation to buy that would be a great bit of business, they’re desperate to sell and he’s unhappy with the fees floating round could be a bargain. I however have zero faith in this board to get it done.

Almost have to feel sorry for Fiorentina.

Imagine running an Italian club and seeing moneybags United coming a mile away, spend all transfer window rubbing your hands, and when the bid finally comes in it's the kind of loan with option to buy cap in hand horseshit they'd be trying to fob us off with if they were after one of our players.

Mengi to Luton on a permanent deal, money is slowly trickling in. Reminds me of the old Blue Peter fund raisers where they would show you how close you were to filling the bottle each week to reach their target.

The FFP is complete BS, we’ve sold the following ;

A Elanga Zidane IQbal, Eithan Laird, Nathan bishop, C Savage, T Chong(sell on), M Kovar, and very shortly D Henderson all from academy all have amortised write up value assuming that the total for all these players is £40m amortised by a 5 year playing contracts, that’s an additional £200m added to the £100m we may have had as a budget.

If the FSP new rules allows is to spend 90% of turnover and last years turnover is predicted to be £630m then the threshold for Wages, Financials, Agent Fees and annual net transfer is £567m

Assuming wages are £300m as they are stated in 3rd Quarter financial reports as 16% lower than previous year and financial loss was the same as the year before of £115m, which is highly unlikely, plus the amortised transfer of about £80m per year that we owe all the European clubs for the next 3 or 4 years, the club should have approximate £70m multiplied by 4 which is a £250m budget plus agent fees at 5-10% of transfer valuation £28m this is without the £40m net academy profit which would offset the £160-170m we’ve spent already.

The Glazers and Richard Arnold must stop lying, the club has not been sold so has no working cash and they are using the company credit card facility which is nearly maxed out !!!

The fans are not stupid and will no longer tolerate these completely inept bafoons who continues to run the club into the ground off the field and mid table mediocrity football on the field !

Just break the rules and cheat. City have done it, it worked for them and the didn’t get punished.

Napoli have entered the race for him too. I reckon he goes there due to United pussyfooting about.

They should be used to that from dealing with Juve.

Outbid by Nottingham Forest for our primary midfield target hohoho

I suppose this is a deliberate joke, if not, I think your figures may not be quite right.

Surely we can afford 20m  :nervous:

Loan is probably wiser anyway, but still, this is all a bit tragic.

FFP doesn't equal what we can afford. We likely have the money, but with the lack of sales we don't have enough FFP headroom to make the signing.

I mean our number 1 CM we are competing with Forest. Maybe alarm bells should be ringing. But no!!

Shouldn't be that difficult to raise 17m for this guy. Use the offer to all clubs feature on Baily, Maguire, and Donny van Beek and remember to set the selling team wage contribution to 50%

I think at this point people are so desperate that this guy is prime Busquets in their heads. Everybody ignoring all the signs that he's probably thoroughly average.
Who thinks he’s prime Busquets, by the way?

We've sold Fred, we're doing everything to get rid of Donny, Mainoo is injured, Mount is injured and McT doesn't seem to be a go to since he got on the pitch in minute 88 vs Wolves, minute 85 vs Nottingham and didn't get to play vs Spurs...

Besides Amrabat we've only been linked to Höjbjerg and we all know what Levy will do if we come asking this late in the window. Unless we're really going for him (Amrabat) in one way or the other, what's the options?
Hoping that Eriksen and Casemiro can play every game and McT can get some minutes if we somehow manage to kill a game early on (we all know that's not something we're good at)?
Giving Hannibal some game time, is he really up for it?

I can't see any other scenario than us really going for Amrabat in one way or the other
