Sofyan Amrabat | signs for United on loan

Sign of media creating a live dinosaur from clam chowder again. If we wanted Amrabat, we'd have him by now. We're just not interested and this signing makes zero sense.

So who does make sense then and can we get them signed before 11pm on Friday

We’ve obviously been planting the “we were never really interested” stories since it’s become apparent we can’t sell anyone and therefore can’t afford him.

100% this. The narrative is all being driven by Italian outlets since Amrabat wants to leave and Fiorentina don’t want to lose him on a free transfer next season. If we actually wanted him it would be done by now but clearly there is no real interest.

I have to say, I am completely uninterested in any links in any of players, including the left back position. It is a combination of the stories of last week, the tiresome takeover saga and the repetitive cycle of transfer windows where United get linked to players and a lot of it is trash. Either that or United take an age to make a decision on someone.

None of these signings are unlikely to make this team an 80 points plus side. The operations aspect of this club leaves a lot to be desired.

We do have 20M from the Henderson transfer dont we? Its just excuses at this point, we have a simple transfer that would improve our team, and we are not acting on it. Baffling.

He had a great world cup but he is not really that great of a player. His defensive stats are woeful. He is a decent passer and thats about it.
If you watch him he is good defensively. I don’t like stats but he has a high success rate for defensive actions.

At this point I’m happy if we sign him and not fussed if we don’t but there’s been a lot of people evaluating him based on stats and I think it’s a highly flawed approach.

Sign of the club going against Erik?
It’s all about the money. God knows what truth there is in all these links but I can accept the likelihood that we’re short of cash and need to get players off the bill.

Someone totally unobtainable I guess
I don’t know why people draw such definitive conclusions from basically nothing. We just don’t know how keen the club is to get Amrabat. We could surmise that he was a lower priority than the signings we’ve made already but, beyond that, he could be our next priority. It could be in the works, it could be total fabrication.

One thing I would bet on is that we don’t have much money left to spend so we’re not suddenly pulling an FDJ out of the hat. (Obviously I would love to be wrong about that!)

No he is more like Casemiro. The stats and fbref profile don’t paint an accurate picture. You only need to see him play a few times to realise that.

He is perfectly decent defensively and has high success rates for defensive actions. He is also comfortable on the ball and is a good passer. He is also a strong, aggressive personality on the pitch (although Scott can look after himself).

I’ve been following this thread for a long time. Some people prefer to assess him based on stats and some prefer to rely on watching him play. I’m in the latter camp.
Relying on stats without understanding context is a terrible way to judge players.

You are right in your assessment.

Amrabat is far better on the ball no doubt but people who think he is some strong defensive midfielder can't have seen him play.

McT actually has better defensive stats.
I’ve seen him play many times and he is strong defensively. Some people don’t pay attention.

Feel sorry for the guy. Been promised a move to us and we’ve not even tried signing him. He’s even trained alone…

He's been badly advised by his agent. Liverpool might sign him on deadline day but at the moment he's sitting on his arse for no reason.

Has he really? I’m not saying he hasn’t but there is so much bs coming out on this. One source says he’s been promised a move to us and another says we aren’t that interested.

I can’t see how any of these gossip-style “news” tweets are worth more than the next one. Yet loads of people on here choose to believe some and not others. Can anyone tell me why?

The "De Jong" saga of this summer, just kinda in the opposite direction. Player wants and waits to join, ETH apparently wants to bring him in, but there is no bid nor agreement between the clubs. Feel a bit sorry for the guy(and ETH as well), because ETH probably made him a false promise and the club hierarchy sabotaged him in bringing Amrabat in - no money.

Amrabat still goes somewhere on the deadline day(or January) on a bargain deal. Just hope it's not the Scousers, he would fit there perfectly with Klopp's "heavy metal" and is a budget, bargain signing - the way stingy, cheap FSG likes them and they always work for them somehow. I wouldn't stand seeing him bullying/bossing our midfield in their jersey by "stealing" him in front of our noses because of the clubs(Glazers) incompetence. Not another Gakpo situation, please.

Does anyone think he's better than Dalot? Is he coming here to be a starter or understudy? Do we not trust Malacia?

He's been an absolute disaster at Chelsea, so are we looking at his work for Brighton and believing we can extract that? If yes, our whole method of attack has to be so much more assertive because he's really bad defensively and with Martinez and Casemiro on his inside channels and Rashford not tracking back, there's a real worry of us getting roasted by good flank play down our left with him in the team. On the other hand, if we manage to go the ultra attacking route, he'd be in his element.

EtH seems to be really intent on sticking to his attacking principles by even looking in this guy's direction.

Wrong thread m9

Not being able to sign a player available for around €20m, who clearly wants the move, would be on a reasonable wage and we clearly want to sign when we've spent £180m this window is horrendous planning no matter what way you try to spin it.

Is this guy enough of an upgrade on the lads sold, honestly it just feels like we are moving on one problem and replacing it with another at the moment.

Mount is a total disaster of signing, he's as fragile as Varane and he plays in a position we don't require a player. We sold Fred and replaced him wrong in my opinion.

Mctominey has question marks over him for sure, but if we are going to replace him then surely its got to be with a confirmed major upgrade. Amrabat looks good but he doesn't exactly have clubs fighting for his signature, why aren't the other Italian teams chasing him.
