He was alright. Still looks slow but this wasn't a big issue tonight. He seems do be doing just enough to keep the ball moving, I think his ceiling is really low though.

Yet another player that ETH coached in the past, knew everything about, and yet somehow came to the conclusion that he'd be good enough to play for United.
The most frustrating part for me. Moyesy did it with Fellaini, Mou did it with Matic and Lukaku(?). ETH has done it with three so far - Onana, Sofyan, and Antony

The money we paid for this loan, we could've just given the minutes to the kids and Beek.

It's why managers shouldn't be given complete control of transfers. You'd never see a Real Madrid manager being allowed to sign shite like Amrabat and Weghorst

Did ok. Booked and a bit lucky when his attempt to clear a cross went towards our goal, fortunately saved by Onana.

I thought he should have stayed on and Mainoo should have come on for McT instead. He wasn't spectacular but was solid.

Imagine Ancelotti asking Perez to sign Mason Holgate because he'd worked with him at Everton before. Carlo would be run out of town immediately!

Like playing with a man down despite the fact we were 3-1 up when he came off and ended up drawing 3-3 when he came off, conceding several chances.

If he’d of stayed on the outcome would likely of been the same as our manager seems to love allowing space in the middle of our team.

As with others, I thought he was decent. In a game like this where we were happy to sit and be a bit more compact, I thought he was good with his positioning and general passing.

I understand taking him off after the booking but ETH needs to be more conservative and should have kept him on whilst bringing in Mainoo too.

Said it from day 1.

Amrabad.

Thank feck it's just a loan with an option to buy.

But knowing our dumbasses we'll probably take up that option.

Yeah, he did ok. Presume he was subbed off because of the booking. Which was a terrible decision from the ref, by the way. The fact he ended up booked and that little scrote Toreira didn’t is an outrage.

Yea that was an awful decision really. Toreira went down like he had been shot by a sniper.

He looks like just another loan body. He’s in his prime so we should be seeing something more than this out of him before the end of the season if we are to sign him on a longer deal. He’s not good enough to take over from Casemiro full time but could be ok backup for whoever else we sign

The PL is too physical for many players who can't make the step up. I've said it before but unless they're clearly talented, like the best player in the league talented, you shouldn't be shopping in foreign leagues unless it's Portugal or France. They might be worse leagues but if nothing they're physical, which is why those lads always do well in England.

Seemed annoyed he was been subbed off. I think he did ok.
3-1 up and ETH thought the game was over . I personally think he could have left it as it was until 70/75minute to make the subs but hey what do I know. Amrabat was never startingv Newcastle anyway

This. 3 1, play 2 in midfield that can defend and keep the ball and hold your lead.

I agree. The Dutch and Scandinavian league players seemed to settle well quite here too under SAF. There is mad value out there we are just poor at finding it.

It's pretty hard to succeed, when your midfield partner is acting as a 10,and vanishes in the defensive phase.

I can't really tell how to judge a DM in this team anymore. Our midfield is a complete free space for the opposition, with one person tasked with defending it.

Whether that be Casemiro, Mainoo or Amrabat, it is far too much for one person. 2 of those players don't have the mobility to even attempt that kind of role.

It just feels like the space we're expecting them to cover is very ridiculous.

He played relatively Ok yesterday. Should have remained on the pitch in a pivot with Mainoo, Scott should have made way instead

Matic was okay. and you left Martinez out of ETH's list.
Matic was decent in his first season but like Casemiro a bad signing. Martinez is a decent signing but a system player - I wouldn't say he is an unqualified success either.

He's OK as an extra body I'm the squad on loan. He's nowhere near good enough to be a regular in a top team though. Glad we only loaned him

He was decent yesterday. The gaps opened up when he went off. Mainoo should have come on for McT after his goal, not for Amrabat. The pair of them would have offered a much more solid base to sit on that lead for the rest of the game.

He wasn't as bad as some believe, but no gaps opened up when he got subbed off. Galatasaray's best chance after the introduction of Mainoo came in the 83rd minute, when we had no other option than to take risks and stretch the game, and had a measly 0.11 xG. He's still very slow. On the ball, in his reactions and in his reading of the game. In this day and age, just throwing another body in front of the defence doesn't cut it any more.

Some gaps opened up. They scored two goals, for starters. But actually I think we basically agree - my point was that it certainly wasn't that bad, and overall not a major change from the pattern of the rest of the game. The issue wasn't that Mainoo did worse than Amrabat (the latter was fine, the former better). It's that McT's game is naturally about running forward, not positional discipline, and in a game like this we should have been playing both Amrabat and Mainoo from the start, or at least it should have been McT who went off after his goal when we should have been looking to play safer.

I agree about throwing another body in front of the defence. I just think Amrabat, while not a world-beater, is more than just another body, and did ok in this game.

This is some nonsense.
While I do think he was more of a success for us because of last season, I think I know what he meant. He needs good players and a good system to thrive. Put him in Everton or Sheffield's defense where they're always on the back foot and I bet his weaknesses will show up more.

A solid base wouldn’t have prevented our captain from chasing down a player running towards the touchline and pointlessly kicking him from behind and our goalkeeper throwing the ball in the net.

Yeah don't get me wrong, I know the real thing that cost us that game was Onana. Said it in several posts. But was responding to posts about Main's introduction.

And tbf a Mainoo-Amrabat base might well have prevented Bruno having to concede that free kick because Mainoo wouldn't have run himself into the opposition's corner then lost the ball like McT did.

Hang on, so we're saying Martinez wasn't a great signing for us because... he wouldn't have performed so well if he was at Everton or Sheffield??

Firstly, I don't see any reason to think so. We spend plenty of time on the back foot ourselves and last season he was the man who came through in those moments. Secondly, who cares, he was signed for United not Everton or Sheffield.

There are plenty of bad signings to criticise for us. Let's not try and drag the good ones into it for no reason too.

Thought he looked decent again, even if it was a short period when we were naturally going to be on top.

Would like to see him start with Mainoo

The idiot in charge won't play a deep 2, even though we have been crying out for it all season and in the rare moments when he dropped Eriksen in alongside another midfielder the team looked much more structured.

An obvious change which I can't believe he won't do.

Next game is at home to an iffy Chelsea side. As good a time as any to finally play two midfielders alongside one another in him and Mainoo.

Amrabat has had one good game this season, against Palace's reserves on a night where they were begging to be knocked out of the League Cup. Besides that he's been pretty much average or below in every game he's played.

For all that though, I'd still rather see him start next to Mainoo in our next game. Amrabat isn't at the level to play for United. However, he at least understands the requirements of the role of a centre midfielder. Plus, while I couldn't even tell you if he could match Tom Cleverely on the ball, at least I know Amrabat is willing to take the ball in midfield. He won't just ping it back where it came from or go into hiding, which at least gives us a chance of going forward.
