How many people said that he was a world-class player?

I would say that most of the people in favour of his signing thought he'd be better than he has been so far and was a type of midfielder that we didn't have in the squad, and would therefore go on to be a good part of the midfield group but not necessarily first choice in the long-term. Considering he's only played a few matches in midfield for us and they've predominately been when the midfield has had a terrible balance, there's still a fair chance that that will be the case.
More to the point how is anyone judging a player who has played a couple of games in his actual position. What is wrong with people these days?

This guy is dopey as feck from a footballing perspective!

At least he didn’t try to grab the ball with his hands every half hour or so last night.

Was thinking the same. Forget top teams, if he was so good, the likes of Brighton, Everton or West Ham would've snapped him up at that price.
If reports are to be believed, he rejected multiple advances including from Liverpool because he specifically wanted to join United.

But let’s just find some way to use that as a stick to beat him with as well because that’s what this forum does.

I don't understand why ETH subbed him off? The only defensively aware cm we have on the pitch and doesn't shit himself on the ball. All to Play McT deep against the best team in Europe....Am I missing something?

Ineffective but no worse than our other midfielders in the first half. All were like a 5/10 with City easily getting the best of them and looking thrice the player

Injured?
On a yellow?

No idea how you could look at that game and take him off unless it was an injury and keep Rashford and Bruno on for 90 mins.

I've been disappointed by him. For ETH to take him off when we had no other replacement in a game of this type is pretty damning. He's getting opportunities but he's not really doing the business.

Glad it's just a loan.

Any decision Eth makes is not damning on any player at all. Our manager doesn’t have a clue on who to change and when.

I agree that ETH is making a mess of things. At the same time, Amrabat is having opportunities to make that position his own and he's not doing it.

He clearly isn't anything special, and not cut for this pace of football, but one thing baffles me. Did we really spend the whole summer with him as the only target for midfield reinforcement? Like, there really was no alternative, even if we were on a budget?

Mount was the plan.

a midfield 3 of Bruno - Casemiro - Mount ala the other teams doing well. Took 1 game to realise it wouldn’t work and now we’ve got Amrabaat.

Who could we have got for 8M?

Obviously we should have used the Mount money for a DM. Its basically finished ETH off. That and the Antony signing.

Pretty much everybody on the CAF and every United fan knew this. WTF couldnt ETH see this? Why didnt his backroom staff tell him this? Are they just Yes men?

A walking yellow card and decided to get a free one by squaring up to someone after he’d just won a free kick.

We’ve so many daft players.

Not good enough so far. Looks lost out there but it hasnt helped our players dont trust him in possesion. He asks for the ball but is promptly ignored by CBs who'll take couple of extra touches before going back to Onana or launch it themselves.

Whoever United played in midfield would come off second best against 115 FC…so it’s not worth debating todays performance.

Amrabat was average in the first half. Not great but certainly not bad. I didn't really understand subbing him off. Ten Hag seemed to think he could pull the same trick that he did against Copenhagen. As though City would give us the same space to play as minnows from Denmark. City relished the space that opened up in his absence.

Anyone still thinking he's an upgrade on Fred?
Of every central midfielder we had at the club, solely from a profile perspective Fred was the one who actually offered something none of the rest had (mobility and energy). Now we’ve got a bunch of slow 6s and no.10s. There’s not a single actual no.8 central midfielder in there

There is a reason he's 27 and been playing for midtable sides, we've downgraded the midfield. I have no idea how we've done it but we've actually managed to downgrade our midfield.

We're supposed to replace with better quality, not guys who's most notable achievement is brilliant world cup for a African minnow. Liverpool tried the same trick in the early 2000's and look a the shite they ended up with.

United and recruitment. Something has to give surely because this isn't acceptable.

Unfortunately coaches and his assistant ain't supposed to be deal with transfer target like this. In Big picture perspective, this situation is clearly on the directors. Can't just allow manager especially who coming from small league with narrow view on transfer target, this much control with transfer.

He would be our permanent signing if we had sold mctominay right?

Himself and Eriksen both shit their pants in the first half - couldnt make simple passes to save their lives. Just so nervous the both of them.

Wasn't easy but we found a way.

We miss Fred now ffs

Dominguez, Forest got him for £8.7 million and Tielemans would have been free

Gilmour also cost less than that for Brighton a year before

Someone should post that short here where he was running for his life tackling Mbappe in the WC.

Everyone will start calling him world class again after watching that.

Doesn't look like a PL standard player to me. Going from a mid-table Serie A team to United, at his age, was quite a leap.

He's nothing special but my god, you saw what happened without him.

If nothing else, he sprints back. He tracks runners.
