So, who had the best summer transfer window?

I've never seen the press rush so quickly to praise a player as they collectively did with Aguero after one game. They universally hailed him as the 'Cantona-style' signing, with the flair and leadership to make the difference and win them their first title.

They should all wait and judge him over the season.

When every season starts, I just can't help being surprised that the press gets more and more ridiculously quick to judge and make grand statements. Like you said, last Sunday I kept hearing things like "prepare to be surprised, but Aguero just missed a chance," and the previous Monday before the Spurs game I heard the comment about De Gea "Well Sir Alex must have seen something in him ..."

3 games in and they've already made the distinction: Superstar/Flop

Sunderland had a very good transfer window replacing Henderson with Larsson & Gardner and bringing Bendtner in on loan could be genius. Not to mention a certain Wes Brown and John O'Shea

Liverpool have done decent stuff. Enrique was a very good pick up and I still can't understand why Wenger didn't get involved there.

I still think the Carroll move was shocking and I can't see the wisdom in swapping (essentially) Meireles (or however you spell it) for Adams plus a few million.

I think they'll get decent value from Downing and Henderson too.

They are highly reliant (imo) on Suarez staying fit though.

Yep, I remember that. I know Aguero was criticised in Spain for going missing when things got tough, so will be very interesting to see how he's looking in 6 months time after an English winter.

Who's the striker that joined Fulham from the German league?

Honigstein was raving about him on FW. Saying that nobody could believe he ended up at a team like Fulham.

Bryan Ruiz, from Twente in the Dutch league, not German.

Tor-Kristian Karlsen, a professional scout and expert on South American players, said he was overrated and a "youtube"-player on deadline day in the Norwegian PL-studio(which actually is really, really good.)

Signing the best player and having the best window are 2 different things entirely.

I think United have made 2 very good signings in Young and Jones. I imagine De Gea will also turn out to be a good signing.

City have signed 2 great players in Aquero and Nasri, while holdign onto Tevez.

But with my rose tinted specs on I think Liverpool have had the best window. When you consider not being in the CL spots, the streamlining which has taken place has been nothing short of miraculous. While there will be doubts from some non-Liverpool fans over Adam (for £7m it's a no brainer) and Henderson (@ £13.5m certainly more of a risk), Enrique & Downing are 2 players who will greatly improve the team. While individually they may not be "Aquero", their partnership on the left and the benefits they bring to the team as a whole will be invaluable. Like Jones, Coates could turn out to be a star, and again for £7m not much of a risk. Bellamy replacing Ngog as 3rd/4th choice forward or winger is a huge step up too IMO.

The fact that Spurs haven't improved their team at all in an added bonus.

I really don't have a clue where you got that figure from. It was reportedly between £16m and £20m. And Carroll definitely cost more than £30m as Liverpool had that amount rejected.

And it's 'Aguero'.

I too can see Enrique-Downing being a productive partnership down the left for Liverpool but Enrique aside(who was good value at £5m), I can't help but think you've overpaid vastly for the players you've bought. Transfers aren't just measured in terms of how good the player is or whether he's a success, value for money has to be taken into account aswell and apart from Enrique and possibly Adam(I say possibly because I don't think you needed him tbh), I don't see Liverpool getting value for money from their purchases and they'll be lucky to recoup the fees they've paid from any possible future sales.

If the players we have signed help the team win again it will be money well spent. I think Enrique, Adam, Coates, Bellamy are all good value signings as if they don't work out at Liverpool we will easily make our money back on them. I could also add Suarez into the mix although you'd correctly counter that with the Carroll fee obviously. I can't see how you can differentiate between Young and Downing. We paid the same as you did for Young and Young had only a year left on his contract. I think both will be excellent signings and recouping the fees doesn't come into it.

Not sure about that - when Gerrard comes back they'll have him and Bellamy to provide a spark if Suarez is out.

Meireles always looked like he was on the sidelines under Dalglish whereas Adam looks like a Dalglish player, someone he can work with.

If that's the guy who spends all day moaning about everyone on Twitter I'm not surprised he's said negative stuff about someone, it's all he ever does.

I'd rather have Meireles than Adams. I can't understand the logic of that swap.

£13.5m + £3m in potential add-ons. But Sky sensationally reported it as £20m so that sticks.

I know it's Aguero and have abssolutely no idea why I typed Aquero.........twice!

Is that official? Where did you get that from?

I suppose no one ever really knows how much a players transfer fee actually is apart from the two clubs involved.

Steady on there, we got Young for £15m, you got Downing for £20m. For my money, those values are the wrong way around, Young is worth more than Downing who is never in a million years a £20m player, the absolute highest I'd have expected someone to go for Downing is £13-15m. That's not to say he's not going to do well for Liverpool though because I think he will but you've sure payed a premium to get him.

Sunderland confirmed that it would rise to £20m. £16m up front with future add ons. SSN just skipped the add ons bit.

It's great seeing how much prices can fluctuate when bias comes into it....Henderson has gone from £20m down to £13m....and Liverpool fans when I randomly read some thread on Henderson vs Anderson randomly believe Anderson cost like £30m when it at most was also £20m.

This undisclosed shit damnit.

You do know that Meireles handed in a transfer request, right? It wasn't exactly Liverpool's choice to sell him.

His request was a response to them breaking a promise to give him a pay hike and then dropping him from the side in favour of the new midfield signings, can't say I blame him for that tbh but I'd love to know how Dalglish came to the conclusion that Adam and Henderson were more worthy of a spot in the Liverpool team than him.

Oh, apologies. I didn't understand the terms of the transfer request. I guess that explains the whole curiousity of the request in my head.

I think it should be compulsory for the details and structures of a deal to be made public by both the selling and buying club. This undisclosed bollocks does my head in and in some cases heaps more pressure on the players due to falsely stated price tags.

It's not just about the signings but how they work. The harmony and team play of our squad is second to none. Fergie has hit it out the park getting it all done asap and letting them gel. Of course they was to be one more addition but that was just the cherry on top.

I love Manchester United.

Bryan Ruiz to Fulham is a really interesting one. Spurs were supposed to be watching his matches so I'm surprised they didnt get him. He has class on the ball, scores goals and is a threat in the air. Would be a surprise if Fulham arent a 1 season stepping stone to a bigger club

The transfer fees might be good, but at what price are the players wages? They aren't under £200k a week for their first year that's for sure.

How do you know that?

Transfer fees were great, under priced if anything compared to what was being quoted and I'm sure both players weren't requesting too high wages. 200k a week, you must be joking.

Basically, you're talking shit.

Barcelona bought two of the best players for positions in which they already have the best in the world. Not even injuries can stop them now.

City have gone from a top 4 side to a genuine title contender for me. Two superstars.

Dutch strikers meaning strikers from Dutch league but yeah, I've made an almighty bollox of bigging this guy up. He's good though. Apparently.

'Bryan Ruiz is a going to be a player. I watched a lot of him last year for Twente and he really does have the lot; he's a tall, good-looking boy with the long hair and you can't help but notice him...he is an elegant footballer, a very nice mover'
