So what would be success for Moyes next season?

Honestly, who gives a toss who gets credit for success. I'll be more than happy to have the same level of success we've experienced in the last 26 years moving forwards.

The big question now is will this happen under Moyes?

I think he is the most likely to try to carry on what SAF had laid down.

Chelsea will come back into the mix if they get Maureen. City I expect will get rid of Mancini at the very least bring in some new players.

So I think as long as it is a 3 horse race and we get out of the group stages of the CL, then I'll be happy.

A new perspective as well as fixing a couple of issues (centre mid) could well actually do us some good and we may well become more of a force because of it.

To be realistic, top four. And CL group stage.
Any one of the cups would be a pretty decent success as it would be a great confidence booster.

Some of the shit in here is bizarre...top 4 or even top 3? Make it out of the group stages? Must be a pisstake.

Moyes is now Manchester United manager, and he has inherited a terrific squad. It is time for him to step up and show he is worth the job. He must challenge well for the title as a bare minimum...winning it would be the only true success. In Europe he will need to learn quickly how to navigate United through to the latter stages and outwit the heavyweights who are ahead of us right now. Second season is when he needs to make a true impact in the Champions League.

Ferguson and the rest of the board are convinced he is the right man in terms of his character and ability....he needs to prove them right and the only way to do that is to win trophies consistently. That is always the bottom line when we judge this club. Challenging hard in every competition is the bare minimum for next season. If he has not won an important trophy at the end of his second year people may start to become restless. He will ultimately be judged on his record of silverware, not his character.

It'll be doom and gloom if we lose the Community Shield final against City.

We're not hiring Rafa ffs. Win the league.

Top 2, getting out of the group stages of the CL and one of the domestic cups while playing some good football and everything being settled. He can then build on from that.

He has to win a trophy, get through the group stages of the CL and a top 3 finish. With this squad and a few signings, it's a realistic goal.

Challenging for the title should be the minimum requirement I think. He's got a cracking squad, (hopefully) a decent budget and help when needed from Fergie.

I'd be disappointed if we weren't challenging in April. Not 'calling for his head' disappointed but nevertheless it would be a serious letdown.

I'm willing to give him more time to learn in Europe.

Winning the league is and always will be our target. Anything else is a dissapointment. This is United, this is what Moyes will have to handle

I agree with this. He took the job knowing exactly what the club stands for, the philosophy and the success which is commanded from top to bottom. He didn't take on the job just to battle for 4th. He's a good manager who has proven to play decent attacking football. He now has a better squad at his disposal, better resources and a bit of wedge to invest if he sees fit.

I see no reason why Moyes cannot challenge for the title and push on in the Champions League group stage.

If City sacked Mancini, would they think that the new manager needs a couple of seasons to get settled before pushing for trophies?

Some of these posts are hilarious.

My expectations for next season under Moyes are exactly the same as they were before Ferguson left. Moyes wouldn't want it any other way, otherwise he would not have been the right man for the job.

I'd expect us to retain our title, that is the standard we have to set here at Manchester United. Obviously the knives will not be out unless he finishes outside top 3 imo.

A success? Winning either the league or CL. Acceptable, top 2 finish, knockout stage of CL.

He's inheriting a team that could have finished with 100 points+ had they been pushed all the way.
