So...what could Van Troll's Surprise be!? | LVG: "not a striker - it's something else"

Bayern have said they won't sell anyone else to us, so that's Lewandowski and Muller ruled out.

Someone needs to get info on which newspaper van gaal reads. Then we can proceed on our elimination method game. This will be the most exciting event since the "tracking german planes" activity.

.....Someone will be doing this right now.

One of the Argie papers said we were interested in some guy named Lionel the other day. Anyone heard of him?

I have, maybe one of the Commodores can play as a CB as well.

Alex Ferguson coming out of retirement to take up the striker role which he used to play in during his playing days.

I would not be surprised if it's Huntelaar. He would probably be ok with backing up Rooney and has worked with LVG before.

Maybe not with the Euros coming up. That's why Van Persie left.

I highly doubt that. It was more to do with not factoring into the manager's plans. Mitten wrote an article a week before RVP left talking about how RVP wanted to stay at United.

Huntelaar will be 32 next month. Isn't that the same age as rvp ? Maybe that's the surprise. Surprise for rvp maybe :p

It can't be someone who is a big deal surely? Isn't LVG saying Rooney is playing that role? Why would an established player come here to play second fiddle to Rooney? Unless we're playing a formation to accommodate 2 strikers?

Bendtner.

But seriously, I reckon it'll be a 'surprise' because it'll be an unknown player who will be the anti-muppet.

I fancy Messi at 50/1 almost as much as I like Muller to remain at Bayern at 2/9.

Actually, it's pretty easy to build a plausible financial narrative in support of a 50/1 twist:
Adidas player; new Adidas deal following on from the Nike deal where merchandising operation stagnated (new deal brings some merchandising streams under commercial department's control); projected 500m revenue in the current year would likely support a Messi-like salary and still bring wage/turnover ratio under 50%.
The buy-out clause might be a struggle (given committed net spend outstanding) but the latest refinancing package should release surplus cash (£40+m) to the club. In addition, the club also doubled capacity under its RF (corporate credit card) to £150m- somewhat unusual for a club generating ever increasing surplus cash. Nike will also have to make a one-off payment (no estimate as to the amount) at close of contract.

So 50 to 1 then...

It's not going to be anyone of note. I think it will be an older player. The press have mentioned every big name!

If it was an unknown we would have got him in before going on tour, which is what LVG kept saying he wanted to do last season. The fact that the "process" is still going on suggests it's a tricky deal to pull off, which probably means we're dealing with a big club who does not want to let their player leave.

If it wasnt a big name signing then i would assume it would be a relatively straight forward transfer, yet LVG makes it sound like its anything but.

I think it will be a high profile player, just one nobody would expect. Or one that has been linked a few times but not to the extent Muller, Ramos, fecking Schweinsteigher, Kane and Schneiderlin were for example. Lazcazette not a bad shout.

One thing to keep in mind is that LvG considers all of the front 3 strikers, he also mentioned in the presser how he was not happy with the way we didn't hold the width on the right in the first half, when Mata was out there, add to that his comments on having big expectations for Hernandez and saying it's not the striker the media are writing about, which is Pedro. So my feeling is that whoever he brings in will be a goal scorer who can play from the right, not a #9.

It must have broke robins heart taking a hundred grand a week drop ! Mind you ! taking his son out of city's academy and putting him in fenerbaches could mean he might finally make his debut

Welbeck then

I think it will be someone akin to Douglas at Barcelona. Someone no one has heard of and is way out of the league

I think lacazette said he is stayin this season

There will be no new striker and this will have just been a curve ball for the press to deal with while he brings in a different player.
