So it's renewal time. Anybody else packing in their ST?

Will/would you renew your ST?

Just to be clear, I share my ticket with my son, and we both work continental shifts. This year has seen some big changes which have put pressure on both of us, from a financial and time perspective.
So there are other influences on our decision not to renew our season ticket.

In a way, Louis has done us a favour.
If we were playing well, I would be cut up about this, but having literally fallen asleep watching this dross this year, the decision is much easier.

It is not a results issue either, I'm from the entertainment >results camp. I don't mind losing if I've seen a bloody good attempt at winning.

Watching a United side trying not to lose, with varying results, is something that I'd forgotten since Sexton.
I will still try to get to some aways, just for the craic, but the cons of being a ST holder outweigh the pros now.

Anybody else had to make this difficult decision?
And has this team made it easier for you?

No joke, during yesterday's game I recieved a text that read "renew by April 29th to receive a limited addition scarf". Couldn't have been at a worse time.

As for renewing itself, I want to wait and see what decisions will be made involving LVG etc but as the renewal date is May 20th I fear it'll all still be unclear as to what is going to happen.

As of right now, I won't be renewing.

Would be interesting to have a poll on this thread to see how many people would truly terminate their ST if LVG were to stay

I don't think that'd tell you much since everyone would vote regardless if they own a season ticket or not.

Yeah let's have that poll, it's a great idea and would actually add to the pressure on LVG if the results got into the press (as they would).

I don't have STs, but my dad has - he has a small company and they're mainly for client entertainment, but that depends on the game. Surprisingly there's been less and less demand from clients lately.

I've been putting pressure on him not to renew. United don't deserve his or his company's money and if LVG stays no client will touch them.

Im a One United member and im questioning whether I should renew that. Going to around 10 games a season as it is, is tough. It was tough Under Fergie when we had success and had entertaining games.
Now, as you said, forgetting about just the results, its the entertainment factor. Its starting to feel more like a chore than anything else. Eg im going up for the Villa match this weekend and I was more like "ohhh, feck" rather than really looking forward to it like I used to.

I got the same text earlier in the week and swore out loud when I read it in work.
A fecking scarf in exchange for £1200?
Because persisting with Van Gaal's anti-football, has made it feel like value for money has been the club's least priority.
Go out of the cup and the season is over, just at the time when they want you to cough up for next year, with no guarantee of who will be in charge.
God forbid it is still Inspector Clueless.

I'm going to renew. I'd imagine we'll have a new manager, a handful of new players and we'll be starting the season with a renewed sense of optimism... only to be disappointed again probably. I'm in it for the long haul though.

Surely a poll specifying its for season ticket holders only would work? We'd have to assume trust in posters to abide by that obviously.. but its the mains forum so might be a fair reflection.

I don't own a season ticket anymore, But normally go to about 11-12 games a season and won't be going at all if Van Gaal stays next season.

I hope you are not disappointed

Like I said, my decision is realistic for personal reasons, all be it a difficult one.
It has been eased by the lack of excitement I feel in the build up to a game.
Hopefully, regardless of what the future holds, a less is more approach, may help keep my love of attending alive.

I'm barely interested in watching them on the television, never mind attending.

I haven't been over in about a year though, so what do I know?

I'm not a ST holder but do hold a membership. A membership that I (and my friends) won't be renewing if Van Gaal is still in charge next season.

I'm fed up of taking days off work and driving 4 hours each way to go and watch us hit 1 shot on target and do a bit of sideways passing.

Your bloody daft if you do.

The shite some clubs go through with relegation battles and the like season upon season and we hit a bad patch where we are playing boring football and the manager responsible has one more year left at the most and toys are thrown out the pram with people talking of scrapping their season tickets. Get a grip for god sake.

Should have sent them a message back, "shove it up yer bollix".

It'd be just like the board to set a May 20th deadline, and then announce on the 21st that LVG's staying.

I relocated 15 years ago so I only get to the occasional game these days but I'd renew my ST regardless if I had one. Keep that red flag flying high and all that stuff. Great football, boring football; success or silverware drought - doesn't change the fact we're supporters and it's our job/duty to do just that.

Does anyone really want to be one of those fans who only goes when we're playing well and winning?

Isn't a season ticket for life? Why would you give that up? Didn't you lot go twenty five years without a title at one point.

What I'd do for a fecking Arsenal season ticket.

It's more to do with not feeling valued as a supporter but more as a customer by the current board that is putting me and many I go with off renewing (not to mention of corse the shit football served up every week). We pay good money, not the most expensive in the league but still good money only to be forced to put up with an incapable manager, a gutless board and the crazy dream that once a great player can come in and make everything better.

People get loads of stick for posting that fans should boo or protest or that they're not watching our games anymore etc etc. But despite the flak, people still post those things regardless; that should tell you that it's not our 'job/duty' to stand idly by while the club's hierarchy lacks competence and care.

If I had the time and money to merit a season ticket I'd keep it.
However, I have neither, and I can see there's plenty of people under time/financial pressure and when you're getting squeezed I don't really see why you'd be judged for not renewing. Especially if you feel you're being treated as a customer rather than a fan.

With all else being equal in your life and it's a comfortable financial/time decision, not renewing because we aren't good anymore doesn't look great. But who knows, sport is entertainment and an escape from it all, so I can see why people want to be entertained.

People are missing the huge caveat that others have mentioned; we don't mind if we lose every bloody week, if we actually try to win the game, try new things, be creative, show some passion and show some signs of improvement after what has been, by anyone's measure, a massive "bad patch".

But do you see any shoots of hope for improvement when we have one shot on goal every game and have zero creativity AND the Manager comes out and says that we "played well"?
Sod paying £1200 for that pleasure.

I think it's absolutely ok to not be impressed with how things are sometimes, otherwise, being blind fans we are nothing but guaranteed income to a company that isn't actually producing the goods it's selling right now. It's exactly the same as idiotic brand loyalty. That said, I'm not going to be jumping ship because we aren't winning, but I'm not as fussed about going out of my way to watch a match as I once was. I actually enjoyed it more when Moyes was in charge.

Yeah, same here. It's hard enough to go to one game per season, let alone getting hold of a ST.

Same as me. Although i had decided not to bother with the membrship again anyway. Not sure what the point is in it anymore tbh. It brings no advatages.

I suppose it depends on who or how individual ST's support the club. I completely understand people that don't want to renew but it is a big decision and people have to think wisely about it. Support lasts forever, shit results, shit managers and shit players are only temporary. Remember the club is (should be) always striving to improve and return to the top no matter what.

The guy I used to go to games with had two ST's and he sold them at the start of this season because he moved away from England and couldn't go (or bludge me to England to go with him!). I'd have snapped one of them up if I was still living in Manchester but I am not. When I say I am not desperate to go and watch us right now I am more saying it more as a lifestyle choice and not as a desire to watch MUFC play football.

Going all the way to England to watch at the moment is a mission and a half and one I really couldn't be arsed with. But if I could get a job in Manchester and move back there I would in a fecking instant. But alas, not at this point in time. Maybe again in the next decade.

I'll be renewing. Thanks to the exchange rates, I'm saving €100 compared to last year!

On a serious note, it is bleak at the moment. We need change ASAP. The inevitable will happen and Louis will be gone in the summer. No fear of that.

i'd rather pound sand down the eye of my cock.

Thinking about coming home this year and living somewhere in the uk. I'll be getting one if I do, feck the results.

For those thinking of not renewing, how can you predict what's going to happen in the next few months? We might have a new manager and shiny marquee signings in a few months.

Exactly. This is why I will wait until the last minute before renewing. I want to know if LVG is here next season or not. If he is, no chance the club are getting any more cash out of me.

It's not about being good though is it. It's about being exciting and entertaining. That's a completely different thing.

Not a season ticket holder, but I used to fly over from the U.S to see the team few times a season. I have stopped after the shite that LvG is producing. Will not attend another game as long as LvG is in charge.
