At whose expense would he play at City ? Silva ? Toure ?

City need world class wide player.

City don't even need Modric, but if it means they pay £40-50 million for him and we end up getting Javi Martinez then I wouldn't mind that.

MANCHESTER UNITED will battle it out with Russian giants Anzhi Makhachkala for the signing of Wesley Sneijder.

The Dutch international looks set to leave Inter Milan in the summer with Anzhi hot on his heels.

The Russian side are the only club able to fund the transfer, with Inter demanding at least £40m.

Sneijder however would be keen on a move to the Premier League, with Manchester United set to make a fresh attempt to sign the midfielder.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson tried to sign the Dutch star last year **but failed to strike a deal with the Italian giants. Ferguson has kept close tabs on Sneijder and is keen to make another move for the midfield ace.

Paul Scholes was forced out retirement this year to aid Manchester United's title race. Since making a comeback he has been influential in pipping neighbours City from the to top of the Premier League.

But Ferguson knows that even if Scholes plays on for another year, he still needs a world class midfielder to match Barcelona in the Champions League.

San Siro chiefs will demand £40m so Inter can have significant funds to strengthen his squad next year. It would make Sneijder United’s most expensive signing.

Ferguson’s record signing is Dimitar Berbatov, who cost United £30.7m when he joined them from *Tottenham in 2008.

It remains to be seen if Ferguson is willing to spend so much on a player who is at his peak but would have no sell-on value at the end of his contract.

An Italian source told Starsport: “Inter will sell Sneijder but it will have to be on their terms. They believe he is worth £40m in the current market.

“He is one of the leading players in the world in his position, so he won’t be allowed to leave on the cheap. Now we wait and see what happens in the near future.”
Time to reopen the Sneijder thread?

They wanted £35M last year, right? So, a year later, (a BAD year) when Sneijder's a year older and has one less year on his contract, they want an extra five million? feck right off...

Please no.

Also "Paul Scholes was forced out retirement this year..." - feck off

Anyone know how many matches he managed this year? We hardly need another potentially talented central player who never plays do we?

This inter crowd are a pack of jokers, he's done nothing at all this year, 40million, if he broke both his legs they'd prolly be like, "adds character that does, 50million ?"

Luka Modric may leave Tottenham - Harry Redknapp

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has admitted that playmaker Luka Modric may leave White Hart Lane in the summer.

The news comes a day after winger Gareth Bale, 22, told Football Focus he could leave if Spurs do not qualify for the Champions League.

"Last summer it was vital that we kept hold of Luka," said Redknapp. "I would be lying if I said I was sure that he would stay [this summer].

"You would like to think Luka would still be here, but you never know."

Much is likely to rest on whether or not Tottenham are playing in Europe's elite club competition next season.

"Certainly I wouldn't see Gareth Bale wanting to leave here," Redknapp commented.

"At the moment he is happy here, a big fish here. He is still learning the game, a young boy, and this is where he needs to be.

"Luka, it's different with him. I don't know what he would do."

Modric, 26, expressed his desire to leave Tottenham in 2011 but the club rejected a £40m offer from Chelsea on transfer deadline day.

The Croatian then played a key role in Spurs spending much of the season in contention for the Premier League title.

But Redknapp's men have since fallen to fifth with just three wins from 14 games ahead of Sunday's meeting with Blackburn.

They sit three points behind fourth-placed Newcastle with a game in hand and seven behind third-placed Arsenal with two in hand.

But if sixth-placed Chelsea win the Champions League final against Bayern Munich, only three other Premier League teams can qualify for next season's competition.

"I think that [the rule] is unfair," Redknapp added.

"You look at the teams that some other countries have in it and we have a team in this country that might finish fourth and are in the final. That shows you the strength of our league.

"I think the rule should be whoever finishes in the top four should get a Champions League place.

"I don't see any reason why there can't be five English teams in it. I don't know whether they will change it, though. You know what it's like with people changing rules."

yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssss!

He wants to stay in London. If Chelsea want him, thats where he will go.

I thought Sniejder looked out of shape, and slow during their international with England.

He'll go to Chelsea, if they qualify for the CL. If they don't, United or City will get him.

He'll probably go to Chelsea. Let them go and overspend £30m on him while we look for a player who is actually value for money and will drastically improve our central midfield like we need them to.

Its hard to say where he'll end up if he leaves. Doubt he's stay in London given that Chelsea have since bought Mata. City are well sorted with the likes of Nasri and Silva. Madrid and Barca are also spoken for. PSG might be decent match for him.

If im honest, I'm not sure what Modric does that is worth £40m.
I've been looking actively since last season but just don't see it.
Good player, but £40m? Not for me.
I do accept, however, that coming to United could get more out of him though.

He has looked off the boil for spurs for a couple of months now I would say, but then so has Silva for city.

For me the really unique thing about Modric is that he plays a role akin to the likes of Silva or Mata, but he does it from a deeper position and is disciplined enough positionally to play in a 2 man midfield. I can't think of another player who does that. I rate him as the player that Cleverley could become.

Modric would fit perfectly into our system playing in CM, but he is versatile and can also play wide or as an AM

What is it about Spurs players and being unbelievably overrated?

I simply can not believe that anybody who has consistently watched this guy play in the last 24-30 months does not think he'd drastically improve our midfield. In 2010/11 he was magnificent in all the games against the top 6, bar us at Old Trafford I think.

For somebody approaching their prime, with international and champions league experience who makes Parker look a class above his real level, £30m would not be overspending in any universe, imo.

Other teams would not want him playing for us.

.... £30m would not be overspending in any universe, imo ...
And nor would it be anywhere near enough to persuade Levy to sell a player who is near enough the best true CM in the Prem.

Enjoy the game today Glaston? We've missed you!

As far as deep lying playmakers [registas as we Italians call it] go I have to agree that Modric is either the best on near to it in the EPL right now.

Good. Cos he's not worth anywhere near that kind of money.

I see your back btw GS. Just a coincidence that your return just so happens to coincide with Spurs winning?

In today's market, he's worth 30mil i believe. Times have changed, if we want to get a top CM, it'l take 30mil.

That said, Levy wont even think about selling him for less than 40mil.

Doubtful.

Unless we're going to bring in someone with potential instead of top proven quality, am afraid 30mil is what we'l need to spend.

When i say top quality, i mean the likes of Modric, Martinez etc. Truly fantastic CMs are at a premium in world football imo.
