Smashley Young

He has, because it's evident that his general touch, passing, vision and technique is on another level. Likewise Nani.

I don't get some people. For you it clearly wasn't enough to come in and say "good lad, Ash," instead, you're using Young's good performance as a stick to beat on two players that weren't even on the pitch. Why?

Many people would rather play Nani or Kagawa ahead of Young because they think that those two are better footballers. There's nothing "off the field" about it.

It is stupid of me, but it comes from the abuse that Young gets. On this page you've got people saying they hate him.

Its simple maths, Ashley Young plays 50 games, bound to play just above averagely in 3 of those games. Tonight changes nothing, I'm sure Kagawa and Nani would play well 3 or 4 times if they got the amount of opportunities in their correct position as this guy gets.

he's proving the doubters wrong, as true united players always do. He was our best player tonight, and scored a great goal. This was one of the few matches I've been to live this season, and he was one of the players i was hoping to see, but i was surprised at the level of support he received from the fans, who were singing his name even before he scored.

That was an unbelievable goal  It really was Ronaldo-esque, everything about it.

Don't think he was better than RVP today, but one of the best on the field (of a fairly average bunch). Credit where credit is due, he's delivered during the tough times over the last month or two and has clearly put in 100%, and that's more than what you could say about almost all of the other players these last few weeks bar Januzaj/De Gea. Still don't think he's ever going to be first choice material (does that even need saying?), but he clearly does a job.

He's been an abomination of a player for 18 months, he owed a few decent performances and that's all they've been, decent.
So he scored a long range goal against Stoke and Cardiff, congratulations, you're now well worthy of being a United player.

He played well. Anyone saying otherwise should take the blinkers of and at least be able to praise when it's required. He's a Utd player. It shouldn't hurt so much to say he's played well.

In fairness to Young, I think he's been more productive this season than Nani, Valencia or Kagawa.

Valencia may have more goals and assists but he's played far more games this season than the rest.

That does not mean I think he should be a first team regular but at least he has shown some end product since he started to get a run of games in the side around Christmas before his injury. THat's more than Nani and Kagawa have done this season.

For me, they have to start showing something before the end of the season. All of the wide players were below par last season as well so this is a prolonged period of bad form.

And West Ham.

And got us the win at Hull.

Nice cross for the first and took his goal well. Seems like he's woken up in the last couple of months and remembered that in his first season he had a good shot and could actually score goals

He's scored a few screamers but the other 89 mins 50 secs of most of his games is pony.

Nonsense. He's a decent player and good enough to be a squad player here. He works extremely hard and always covers his end defensively. He's created a fair few assists and scored too for a lad who's in and out of the team. I've never been a fan of his if you look back to the start of this thread but I can look at things subjectively rather than even when he played well for 90 minutes trying to claim he didn't.

Says it all when you can handpick his good performances.

The problem is those good performances in the limited number of games he has had probably puts him ahead of Nani, Kagawa and arguably Valencia in terms of this season. The wide players have all been a disappointment aside from Januzaj and with Mata sure to be regular then a lot of focus will come on those under-performing players.

Yeah but he's got a stupid face. You're forgetting that.

This is more than pulling his weight is it? This is the kind of standard a United winger should be having most weeks

Oh ffs , not this shit again.

Where was Young was here......

and here.....

Yeah but Kagawa and Nani get less game time then him and they're usually played out of position. He's been better than Valencia, I'll give him that. But only the last month, he was just as rotten as him last year.

Everything is relative at the moment, Ekeke. We're uniformly shit of late. Young continues to receive an inordinate amount of abuse. I don't think it's warrented. Comparing his efforts to what our wide men should be producing seems a little irrelevant. We are where we are and he's been positive and productive when he's got his chances. A nod to that effect from the Caf is all I was calling for.

According to Whoscored, Kagawa's started more games than Young this season(who has more overall appearances with subs) while Nani's been out of the side due to injury and Valencia is the most often started winger. So Kagawa gets more, or very similar game time to him and Nani's had injury problems for a couple of months.

Either way, Young's been more productive than both this season.

the odd screamer goal every 8 months doesnt make up for his mediocrity the rest of the time sorry

I put your opinion and Leroys in the same category that I put the people who give the bottom 5% of any reviews on trip advisor. Hold grudges or has irrational hatred of something and only capable of seeing the negatives they want to see.

to be fair to him, he did very well today.

the problem is that just as when we think he is going to be fine for us, the very next week he turn out super shit.

To be fair mate thats absolute bollocks. I gave him a chance like I do with every United player but he is cruising at our club picking up a huge paycheck. Evra has been a better winger than him even.

I'm not his biggest fan but he was decent today. Credit where it's due, he seems to pop up with important goals throughout his career with us. His goal today came at the right time.

I don't blame a lot of you, so used to mediocrity from the wide areas, that 18 months of stinking the place up and then a few long range shots against cannon fodder in the space of a few weeks, now equate to what you see as a good performing winger.
It's like having sex with Margot Robbie for twenty years and then having no sex for four years and then suddenly you have sex with Gail Platt for Corrie and think it's something....

Not sure why people have to detract from each good performance by making sure everyone still knows he had a shit prolonged period.

Its the same posters who pop up, we all know he was shit, why is it so important to reiterate it?

The lad is a decent squad player, him and Nani as back up to Adnan and Mata is solid.

That cross for the 1st goal reminded me of the crosses he used to whip in at Villa. For a while there he seemed to have completely lost the ability to put in a ball like that, but it seems a bit of confidence is doing the world of good.

He's proving to be a decent option on the left, and fair play to him for that. I'd still pick Januzaj ahead of him when everyones fit mind, but I'm not sure Moyes will want to play Adnan and Mata as the wingers at the same time. If that is the case I hope to see Young ahead of Valencia at least.

I tells it how I sees it Ramshock. You're a on star giver and a ranter. ;)

I am huh? Ive watched football all my life and coached it for 15 years I know when a player is cruising. He doesnt get the production ne should from that position nor does he beat his marker enough
