Smashley Young

I know they were shite but you can already see he's gonna be immense for us in the future. He's got the lot.

Get him in your dream teams for next season.

Always liked him when he played for England. Didn't understand the Tards on here that didn't think this was a good signing! He'll be huge for us, he'll improve as he always improves and he could be moved to play more centrally or in a more roaming role which gives us many more options. The fact that he's a team player and 2 footed is a huge bonus for us!

couple of decent looking corners as well, and he is going to improve our attack next season, no doubt about it.

I always had him in my fantasy teams before but that's a risk now that he is a United player since Fergie rotates so much.

Glad to see him finding his feet. He looked good with Evra behind him. Evra could never cross a ball (last night's awkward assist withstanding), and I noticed him cutting in more now that he has a partner who prefers to get chalk on his boots. Could get the best out of him as an attacking wingback.

i think the players we have will double his stats this season. He is to the point and wants to be productive everytime he gets the ball, he is the anti nani lol more so than valenica

How many assists did Young get last night?

Evra-Young partnership is looking good, had shades of the Evra-Ronaldo partnership. As well as the Raphael-Nani combo, we're truly sorted on the wings for a good 4yrs.

Harsh on Nani, his stats from last season show just how productive he is. He also put a lot of good deliveries into the box last night. I actually think Young reminds me a lot of Nani on the left wing.

There was one first time ball from Young where he chipped it over the opposition straight into Evra's path

I think a lot of people are going to be surprised by Young's passing ability. He's got great vision and passing, which is something I only noticed myself last season when he was playing more central.

couldn't agree more, there was such a fluidity about their play in only their first game together that i haven't seen Evra play like for a long time, bodes well for next season.

I like Youngs decision making too, he rarely picks the wrong option, quality team player and i fully expect him to make that left flank his own.

I can see it being the main choice next year. Valencias inability to play on both wings is going to let him down.

Perhaps, but I still think Valencia will play the majority of the big games. SAF uses rotation so much there's almost no 'first choice' pairing anyway. I think Nani will play the most games, and then Valencia and Young will get similar time.

he will if our midfield doesn't get sorted out and we're in need of defensive wingers more than attacking wingers.

I think it'll show after a month or two than Young is the best option on the left and well ... Nani is clearly our best winger so he'll play on the right.

Valencia will get enough game time of course due to the rotation but I can't see him knocking those 2 out of the team if they play as good as they're capable of doing.

How is Valencia a defensive winger? He is a powerful and reliable winger with great tactical discipline and awareness, and he offers so much to our attacking play. It is difficult to envision Young or Nani humiliating Ashley Cole as badly as Valencia did last season. His only major weakness is his inability to use his left foot and play on the left wing. And yes, I agree this will be quite frustrating because a fluid and dynamic set of attackers is the goal, but Valencia is still a superb player.

The point about our midfield is entirely irrelevant, and it is not fair that our midfield is used by some posters as a scapegoat for every problem we may face.

Seeing as he's already knocked one of them out of the team in his first few weeks back from a horrific long-term injury I'm not sure how you figured that out. I'm equally baffled by you pigeon-holing him as a "defensive winger". I'm not sure Ashley Cole would agree with that description.

They'll all get a lot of games next season but Fergie obviously rates Valencia very highly and clearly doesn't see him as the second-rate option that you're painting him as.

Do you even watch us play?

Does everybody want to see him on the right to check out his crossing like me? Could be a real weapon for us and nani can play on the left.

I'd like to see nothing less

Young is better on the left than Nani. Nani is better on the right than Young. Whats the need to confuse it?

Young has played his position very well in pre-season so far and shown better distribution than Nani or Valencia usually do in my opinion, although only because he's been picking more adventurous passes than Valencia would tend to. I'm sure Valencia's ball retention will be just as good this season

No way is Valencia's position under any threat. He's too damn consistent for that.

Eh? Of course it's under threat, now that there is no real need to play Nani on the left Valencia now has last season's PPOTY breathing down his neck. Nani haa took his place before too remember!

I'm sure all 3 could play in the same team for plenty of league games next season if we wanted to.

I'm wondering how much we will see Valencia at RB this season now that we are a bit light for squad players at that position.

Need? Nani plays well on the left anyway. So I dont get your point.

I think SAF will give all his wingers a chance and that more often than not Young and Park will fight for the left spot whilst Nani and Valencia fight for the right. Whichever way you lookat it, both wings spots are "under threat"/up for grabs!

Young and Evra linked up really well too, and the corners were fantastic. Two headed at goal and cleared off the line in the game, great to have a really dangerous corner taker at last (no offense Giggsy).

Looking good so far.

He could well end up with the most assists at the end of the season. His ability to deliver a great ball from either foot is going to cause big problems for a lot of teams.

I have a feeling that Young and Hernandez will spark off a good on-field understanding..

Got around to downloading the Seattle game and I thought Young was excellent. Very impressed by how easily he seems to have slotted in to the team.

He knocked him out because Nani's form turned shit after that injury. And one of the reasons he was used was because him and Park are defensively better than Nani, yes, because of the midfield combo we were using.

I never said he was second rate, what the feck are you on? Is there so much wrong with saying Young and Nani will become our first choices? Seeing as Young is the best left winger we have and Nani is the best right winger we have. Hardly a bad statement.

I reckon there will be plenty of times we'll see Nani, Valencia and Young all on the pitch at the same time. I suspect Young may be given more of a central or roaming role rather than an out and out winger.

So he got picked ahead of Nani because he was playing better than him. Exactly my point. You seem convinced this couldn't possibly happen again. I think it's very possible. The converse is also possible. Time will tell.

That's your opinion anyway. Not everyone would agree. SAF clearly seemed to think differently in the back end of last season.
