Sir Jim Ratcliffe: I want to buy Manchester United | Will make a bid for the club [Telegraph]

So if thats the case, buying United should be easily doable for him if he can persuaid the Glazers to sell for 4bn
Well quotes on here got him between 12 and 21 billion so if say he spends 5.5 clearing everything up he still has plenty left. Utd can then run itself

We've got to unite to make this happen. We can't let up on the pressure

A lot of noise these past few days. Feels like it's closer to happening than ever before.

This is the only thread which is of interest to me this summer. Have not had much interest in the transfer threads for some reason.

when this first was reported I thought they'd quickly pour cold water on this, instead the club isn't commenting and it seems this story actually has legs. Aaargh don't do this to me ... hard not to get super excited over this. Let's hope we won't get hurt again

the club not commenting is basically meaningless at this stage

this is a bit of a journalists trick to add something to the story

when something like this breaks journalists will call the press office, and when they call they already know that the press office has a standard "no comment" policy on anything new breaking

so the press officer says the "sorry no comment" line, and the journalist reports it as "the club declines to comment".. making it sound like the club has already made a specific decision to not comment on this specific story, when in fact nothing of the sort has occurred yet

I didn't believe the news about minority share. The gene is out of the bottle if that makes the news. Selling United has never been wiser for these rats. The value of asset keeps diminishing and time is against them. This summer window has always felt a bit weird, even more than usual. Now we know why. When Neville said "something will happen soon" I felt he knew something too.

I think we will be out of our misery soon.

Britain's richest man vs the money grabbing run off into the night crooks from America? I imagine this deal would be done very quickly once it gets serious.

The Super League failure has caused a ripple. Barca, Chelsea and United were banking on it.

Surely the Chelsea deal has more to do with Abramovich’s ties to Putin over the Super League?

The sponsors are probably sick of the negativity the Glazers are bringing to the club and pressuring them to sell at this point.

Differs between 12b and 21b but Ineos are worth around 61b
He's worth 15 billion quid.
Ratcliffe has a net worth of 14,7 mil. USD. Todd Boehly has a net worth 4,5 mil. USD

Only did a quick Google search

Problem is I can't conceptualise that much money.

I suppose what I want to know is whether he's sugar-daddy-who-could-whitewash-away-human-rights-violations rich? Or just will-look-to-run-United-as-a-sensible-profit-making-venture rich?

Not always correct

Often there will be a ‘if asked statement’ prepared for such things

The late bid is a reason why I still have lingering doubts on Ratcliffe's credibility. What is the point of making a late bid for the sake of testing the waters at United? The Saudis circled around our club for some time before they finally put their missile lock on Newcastle.

Todd Boehly isn't alone, it's a consortium including Clearlake capital.
You’re all going to end up so very disappointed.
I so hope this is true but I'm not getting my hopes one bit with this club.

This isn't about disappointed or not getting your hopes up.

We have a viable owner and now it is up to us to make it happen.

This means protests, targeting sponsors etc... We need to do whatever it takes ( within the law) to make it happen. This is our one big chance.

Eugh just imagine it. Glazers sell up and Jimmy comes in, as a Lancashire born, life-long fan.

Backs the manager, overhauls the scouting department, invests in facilities, invests in the stadium. It’s almost too much to take imagining that something like this could happen.

When putting in a bid for Chelsea he said something like it wasn’t about making money as they make money in other areas and it would be more of a sporting project.

At that time, I don't think the club was for sale. I think the possibility has been there since the failure of the Super League. Once the Glazers realised there was no further mileage to improve Utd's value without significant investment, that was their signal to cut and run.

I think discussions might be further ahead than we think

If he is worth $15 billion then yes that is that sort of money. It's probably a little less than City but that's twice of what was Roman's reported net worth.

Joel Glazer is reported to be worth $1 billion.

Let's hope we can have the biggest protest of all at the Liverpool game. We really need to make this happen. Let's kick the Glazers out once and for all.

Enough of been robbed for 17 years.

If you dig into anybody with that amount of money you will find something undesirable, as it stands though nothing is known or stands out so the 2nd one.

He grew up in the area and supported United as a kid. He did end up supporting Chelsea as well after being based down there. He’s a massive sports fan and is 69 now. I’m not sure what motivation he’d have to be running the club as a sensible profit making venture. The ROI will be very weak in a business sense. My hope is that he’s looking to to enjoy his twilight years as much as possible with this venture. Even if he just clears up the debt it will give us £50m a year extra. The devil will be in the detail of course but on balance, at least from the outside, I can’t think of a much better profile for an owner.

Nah this is definitely further ahead than most people realise

The latter part probably judging from his work at nice.

Don't think protests are going to make a difference here pal. He'll either buy the club or not, regardless of protests. What's the point in protesting if the glazers are looking to sell anyway?

Go protest the government, that's what needs protesting.

Oh god please, let the nightmare end and change happen. Let's keep this this thread going, feck the distractions of silly transfers pushed by these jokers.

I can't help but feel there is something in this, the right sort of noises from the right sort of sources. Not quite running it up the flagpole yet. But there is a little bit of hope I it I feel.

Beeb picking it up means the only thing stopping this now is some bullshit block from the FA for some bullshit reason.

No chance in hell would they block British investment. It would do their image the world of good

The only former players that could have enough money to be part of this would be David Beckham and Gary Neville?

Giggs is worth more than Neville but I don't believe any of them have anywhere near enough apart from Beckham.
