Sir Gareth Southgate - Really?

Do people with genuine self-respect care about British knighthoods? Just curious.

As an old man, I'm okay with the honours system. Of course, many people I don't like have got knighthoods over the years. I'm not hugely bothered by that. But it's always cool when someone I like gets one. I don't see any connection with self-respect, to be honest. I doubt there have been many people who lacked all self-respect and were then knighted and suddenly thought they were wonderful.

Don't care. They could knight Cantona and I still won't give a single shit about the honours system.

Bunch of miserable bastards on the caf.

It's deserved. International football in England has definitely been frustrating, under a better manager I maintain we'd have eat Italy...

But it's also never been as fun than under Gareth. We've never been as hopeful and it's been a great ride even if we haven't won anything. Giving fans genuine hope and belief that we can win an international trophy (something I've never had) it's worthy in itself.

Should be knighted for the summer of 2018 alone, that summer has never been replicated and probably never will.

No one can be more undeserving than Sir Gavin Williamson.
Or Sir Nick Clegg. Embarrassing.

I am amazed Becks has not been knighted yet. Arguably one of the most successful British players / brands over the last 25 years. Great role model and has done well post football too.

Maybe ashworth was right all along when he wanted to go for southgate over the other options.

Would be shipping goals left right and centre under him?

I guess it helps if you are buddies with the Crown Prince. Winning trophies nice to have but not strictly required.

Sir Gareth becomes only the fourth former England manager to receive a knighthood, after Sir Alf Ramsey, Sir Walter Winterbottom and Sir Bobby Robson. - Guardian

It's a bit of an insult to the former knights really.

And we see Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Gareth Southgate sharing a conversation in the stands.

Just sounds wrong doesn’t it? They should have multiple Sir tiers.

When Tuchel wins a World Cup, can he be knighted? And can Southgate get stripped of his knighthood after being shown up as a chancer by a Jerry?

Christ. If winning nothing with England is your barometer then where’s my knighthood too?

He's done nothing for assocation football.
No one claimed he had, but I reckon there's a lot of United fans who will be grateful for his efforts to improve mental health services because they're gonna be using them!

Knighthoods in the 21st century are silly anyway. David Bowie, Paul Dirac, Aldous Huxley, Joseph Conrad knew better
