Nice quote from Joe Public on a Yahoo/Eurosport article about Sir Alex:

Superb article - clearly written by an informed mind without bias or judgement. I was a young player at Aberdeen in 1984 and saw first hand the man in action - for the few moments he would speak directly to you, you felt like you were his only concern in the world. My best memory was on a freezing December saturday morning as we were sitting on the Pittodrie turf polishing the boots for the afternoon - we could hear his voice booming over a megaphone in the distance as he'd taken to being driven around the tenements near the stadium in an elections vehicle - dragging (literally) people out of their houses to come and watch the team that he had built. An absolute LEGEND of a man

The biggest part of the speech for me was the fact that he didnt take time to indulge himself. This was his last time to speak to the Old Trafford crowd, a crowd that is largely there due to his work over the last quarter of a century in making our club what it is. Instead of spending time reminiscing over the past and what he's achieved, he thanked everyone else for making it possible and made sure that we move forward as a collective. As proud of his achievements as he is, you just get the feeling that he wanted it more for everyone else's happiness rather than his own personal glory, that he relates to our successes and failures more as a fan rather than an employee.

Sir Alex is a born leader! If he's running a country (thank god he runs us instead), that country will be the best country on planet earth and everyone will be respecting his leadership. If he rules the world.... Forget it, he's bigger than God! :)

That was so great to see, Fergie and the grandkids. I remember photos from the cup final in 99 with Fergie and his first grandson Jake at Wembley. Since all the grandkids were apparently on the pitch yesterday, I'd assume Jake is the oldest one on the photos. Should be 18-19 now, I think. The Ferguson tribe, growing in numbers, all while he was busy with us. It's nice to see.

Imagine being around 19 and your grandfather is Sir Alex Ferguson!

Why does everyone stop themselves calling him "the best manager in the world" and instead opt for "the best manager in British football"? Is there an outstanding candidate outside for Britain for said honour that people avoid comparing with Sir Alex or is it an implicit acceptance of their lack of knowledge of the history of football and its great managers?

I've just realised that I still don't actually believe it.

There have been times when his decisions have been confusing, strange, or downright irritating, but nearly thirty years of perfection would be unrealistic.

I do feel a tad excited about a new era, but I hate change, and it's going to seem wrong for some time.

Tomorrow is the final curtain, very proud to have watched United under him, what a manager.

Imagine being around 19 and your grandfather is Sir Alex Ferguson!

Bet he regrets the day he told Grandpa Alex that he refused to go to bed with wet hair after taking a shower earlier!

Enjoyed that. Always time for one last dig at City :D
Has anyone listened to this week's podcast on the OS with Wilf McGuinness? He makes the point that the club didn't struggle because of Sir Matt's interference as people often suggest but more because he was inexperienced and says he wishes he'd gone to Sir Matt and used him more. It was quite insightful because I think the impression painted of Sir Matt's reluctance to let go is probably over-played.

Whilst I don't think SAF should or will get too involved, Moyes would be foolish not to use SAFs wisdom from time to time. Especially in he first few seasons with us.

As an aside it's hard to think Football's greatest managerial reign of all time will be over tomorrow. I was born a year after SAF took over so I know nothing but Ferguson's Manchester United. It's been nothing but great. I look to the future with optimism and a bit of uncertainty but I believe in what SAF has built here.
