fecking hell, football in the 80s. How did Leighton not get sent off for that pen he conceded?

I don't want him to go :(

Even if we never sign another midfielder again, and just play a team of strikers and centre backs, I can live with that. Just please don't go.

His post-match speech was brilliant, he basically used it to thank everyone, promote the values of the club and start the support behind Moyes, such a class act, took no time to indulge in his own great moments.

I need to see that Sky montage again :( so emotional, but so good.

what a crazy mix of happy and sad. can't imagine what it's like for you that have seen him for his entire time at United. all I know is the ten years United's been on american tv. long live Sir Alex.

Absolutely - it's hard to imagine his naysayers ever demonstrating this level of class. It was entirely fitting and I loved the Fergie family bit too. Great stuff.

I was in tears the moment he was handed the mic. The Mrs was impressed though. Reckon I may get some tonight. Thankyou SAF

I have this weird thing going on at the moment. I lost all ideas of stability in my life at a young age. Religion fell by the way side and I lost the thrice weekly ritual from that. My parents then did the unthinkable and split up, I found my family and family home gone., Employment and career soon followed. The solace I sought in drugs lasted a while but eventually I ended up being as crap as everyone else. There was a few things I still knew for certain. My bad command over English. Jackie Chan made amazing Martial arts films and we always had Sir alex at the helm.

Well Chan eventually let me down. Ferguson though was always there. It din't matter how many doom sayers I ran into who would trash the club and manager. We sold Hughes and Ince and Kanchelskis. Cantona has gone. Wengers unbeatables. Keane has gone. Chelsea are now owned by a rich oil baron who will use his money to spend his way to the top. We've been taken over by money crazed yanks. City Are are owned by a group of rich oil barons who will use there money to spend there way to the top. Ronaldo was sold. It didn't matter because we had Alex Ferguson at the helm. Everyone would rip into us and him but he was our ace card.

Now whilst I'm looking forward to next season more so than I have for a long time. The uncertainty promises to make it more entertaining. The last non self responsible bastion of certainty in my life has gone. I can make no larger tribute to this Glaswegian, than the fact that someone just handing him a microphone brought me, a 36 year old man to tears. He outlasted everything else in my life and now....

well that's it. He's gone. It's over.

At least my command of English is as crap as ever.

I fully support David Moyes and will give him the time he needs. If anyone ask me who I want to manage Manchester United instead, then the answer will always be Alex Ferguson. He proved us all wrong in the early years and never have I been so happy eating humble pie.

the man is a fecking legend... I still want to do my PhD degree -a case study on why he is so feckin cool and great.

Nevertheless...that bit about standing by the new manager...i honestly burst into tears.

and thought i didn't care about football any more...

I had a tear in my eye when he grabbed the mic. He was only about 50 yards away and I had to resist the urge to run onto the pitch and hug him. The things he said, though, brought me back down to earth, so I blew my nose and got back to shouting myself hoarse.

With him and Scholesy retiring, it couldve been a sombre affair, but he said exactly the right things. Amazing human being.

All of our kids and grand-kids are going to be so fecking sick of listening to us bleat on and on about how amazing SAF was but we will never be able to properly explain how good of a man and manager he was

"... And he did all that without signing a midfield player for six years!!".

Two weeks ago I told myself I'd be happy with Fergie retiring and Klopp or Mourinho coming in. I was perhaps too impatient for another taste of Champions League success.

That doesn't matter to me anymore. Having him as a leader has been an honour. I still believe it's the right time for him to go from his perspective. Even so, regardless of how many trophies are won in the future, I sit here tonight knowing that life as a Manchester United supporter will never be the same without him as leader.

Those "to be continued" messages hit home now. Because there's a part of me that thinks the club I'll be supporting next year will be a different one (no, not Dortmund!). We have the SAF stand, we have the statue and we'll have the man himself in the directors box, but there are many more voids to fill.

It's incredible how much reverence he's held in by his players, especially ones like Anderson and Chicharito who could be right mard arses and whinge about not playing much but they adore him. Chicharito was like a fan taking pictures with Sir Alex.

well, I think Anderson only likes playing occassionally and then prefers only a max 50 mins, so actually Ferguson has been wonderful for him....

What can be said about the man that hasn't already been said...what a privilege it's been supporting United under his guidance and to do what he's done for 26 years at our club is nothing short of God-like genius.

Tears aplenty when he lifted that trophy knowing it was his last one and what a way to sign off by lifting it at OT.

Thank you Sir Alex! There'll not be another one like you ever again.

I was thinking this earlier. We will be talking about this for years. I'm only 24 as well.
